Full version history logged HERE

Short introduction :

"One pack of skins to gather them all, One pack of skins to fix them,
One pack to update them all, and in LotRO enjoy them."

JRR (like Tolkien) stands for "Jack's RedPin Revisited".

JRR is, first of all, a complete theme designed for today's high resolution screens.

It also offers you to enjoy a collection of legacy/tribute themes, updated and revisited !

There are currently 31 themes and theme variations included in this pack of skins ! And you can download two addon themes !

- The theme JRR A is a minimal dark glass theme, inspired and built with many Brygard's B.G.M elements.
- The theme JRR B offers a bit more transparency on the auto-attack button, the system buttons located at the left and the right of the toolbar are turned invisible.
- The theme JRR C has a minimalistic main bar. Auto-attack button is a bit more translucent. XP bar is turned invisible. All system buttons are set invisible, except when passing the mouse over them.

Last but not least, the JRR skin collection is entirely modular :
Every skin folder is considered as an addon and is independent from the other ones. This means each main skin folder can be deleted from the pack or modified without affecting the other skins.
Every skin folder interacts with no other folder than "JRR CORE" folder. This folder contains the common files for all the JRR skins (this is the only folder which must not be deleted to get the skins working).
This makes easy for anyone to freely publish a new skin, a patched or customized edition of a skin, ready to plug in JRR, in addition or as replacement of existing skin(s).

This also means, as a simple user, you can reduce the number of skins embedded in the pack in just a few seconds, by simply deleting any skin folder you don't want to be featured any more !
For this, open the JRR main folder, it is located there : "...Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\JRR Skins collection\"
Inside this "JRR Skins collection" folder, delete any folder corresponding to the skins you want to remove from the pack, and you're done, that's as simple as it
Notice : Just don't remove the folder named "JRR CORE".

Story of this project :

When I looked at lotrointerface.com for the first time, unfortunately it was after the f2p update.
Turbine had not released any skinning pack resource since years then almost all of the themes I wanted to test were partially damaged by LOTRO changes introduced updates after updates, and the authors seemed having discontinued their development for the reasons above

The "Jack's RedPinUI" v1.0 seemed to be the only one which had the base UI I was looking for, and which had not suffered a lot of damages, so in march 2011, I started using it and to customize it, step by step.

The purpose of this project was, in the first time, only to adapt the original work to the design I was looking for :

Some convenient customizations, as extended panels, designed for high resolution screens.
The basic interface features, as bags, vital bars and minimap have a minimalist design in order to preserve a clear view.

In a second time, one or two month later, I still had in mind the numerous bugged or outdated great themes I downloaded when I browsed LotroInterface. I wanted to be able to run them in game as well as if they were updated yesterday !
That's how came the idea to display their toolbar as tribute add-on within the JRR common interface, and this was precisely the purpose of the first release of JRR published in July 2011.

In a third time, on JRR v2, since I was more familiar with skin coding, I decided to deliver full versions of some skins, freely adapted for a JRR edition.
This means if you like a JRR theme, you could prefer (or not) its original release. It's only a matter of taste.

Requirements :

A minimal resolution of 1024 pixels width and 768 pixels height is required, 1440X900 or higher is highly recommended.

If you are below 1024 pixels width and/or 768 pixels height, you can still enjoy the JRR SmallBar add-on by selecting its "_JRR Small_No-Ext" special profile. On it, every panels has Lotro's default size.

If you're not familiar with themes installation :

- Download and unpack the .ZIP file on your desktop (with Windows, 7-zip (freeware) or Winrar ) then copy the folder named "JRR Skins collection" in "(My) Documents" --> "The Lord of the Rings Online" --> "UI" --> "skins"
If UI and/or skins folders don't exist, create it.
Usually the path is C:\User(s)\*your account name*\documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\UI\skins\ (It is the same folder that contains your LOTRO screenshots.)

When done, if you have also installed JRR addons, the folders location and their organization should be :

Inside the JRR folder, it should look like this :

- If your LOTRO client is running, close it and restart it.

- Open LOTRO option panel, then select "ui settings", miscellaneous section, and look at the first line, user current skin ("user's interface appearance" in French).
Use the select menu to choose one of the themes. (As shown on the picture below)

After you selected a JRR theme, you have to logout (switch to the character selection menu) to apply the new correct parameters. After that you can go back into the game and enjoy all JRR features.
Except " Monsters Lair *short* " and "Delving Hills *Short* ", which both have custom toolbar settings", all the themes featured in the main download share the same panels settings. This means once your character has applied these settings a first time (by logout then login back), you can freely switch between the main download themes and fully enjoy it without having to to perform another logout / login back. (except for the 2 skins mentioned above).

Panels enhancements included in each JRR skin :

- A taller dressing room
- A taller barter panel
- A taller auction Panel
- A taller mail panel
- A taller vendor panel
- A taller crafting panel, with localization fixes
- A taller legacy extraction panel
- A taller legendary item dismantling result window
- A taller master loot window (20 items max instead of 10)
- A taller panel displayed when applying an item (scroll, crystal, xp...) on a legendary Item. Displays 8 LI instead of 6 by default.
- A taller enemies tracking panel. Displays 20 names at once instead of 8 by default.
- A taller inspect panel.
- A more compact connection Status icon.
- Numerical PVP rank icons
- A (smaller) windowed map, actually displayed at its real size (no more zooming blur)
- Custom Saruman rings
- Less annoying store buttons within various panels

. . . Store buttons removed :
  • Character panel : Equipment tab (enhance) & Appearance tab (buy outfits) buttons
  • "circle" virtues panel : The "buy virtue +1" overlay icon is set invisible but still functional.
  • Destiny barter
  • Extended Crafting Panel : buy recipes / buy mats / accelerate buttons
  • Relic Master panel

FAQ and Known issues :

- I just installed JRR and selected one of the skins on my character, some panels are displayed in a strange manner, like upside down.
Logout then login back, this is a necessary step to apply the new custom panel settings.
Once you did it, and since you stay on JRR universal toolbar skins, you will be able to switch from a skin to another one without having to logout again.
All the skins included in the main JRR pack are universal toolbar skins, except Delving Hills short and Monsters Lair short.

- I installed a JRR addon and selected it on my character, but some panels backgrounds or other elements are replaced by a light grey frame
If only a few elements are greyed (meaning file not found at the indicated location), this can be a error from my side. Don't hesitate to report me this kind of issues.
If a big amount of grey frames occurs, first ensure you installed the pack of skins at the right location on your hard drive, then ensure you installed the optional addon folders side by side with the "JRR Skins collection" folder.
"JRR skins collection" folder must not be renamed and must be directly placed at the right place, not inside another custom/unpacking folder, if not, optional addons won't work and show only grey frames.
Optional addons folders must be located outside JRR skins collection folder, and placed just beside it.

- How do I uninstall a skin from my computer ?
Simply delete the skin folder you had previously copied onto your from your hard drive (I mean in ...Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\ folder), that's all.

- The map is no more fullscreen !
This is not a bug, this is a skinning choice, it is really convenient in some situations, and on multi screen systems.
In fact this displays the map in this actual size, without the zooming blur.
Advanced users can revert it by deleting the "Map Window" section in the skindefintion.xml file of every skin they wanna fix, and repeat this operation after every JRR update.

- On delving Hills short / Monsters Lair short / BGM Opaque Short, my toolbar is not centered or its buttons cannot be clicked.
These particular profiles require the user to edit the corresponding skindefinition.xml file to position the toolbar depending its game resolution.
All required informations about how to proceed are logged into their skindefinition.xml file. Open it with any text editor, like Wordpad or Notepad.
I you play in window mode or switch between window mode and fullscreen mode, you can bypass the "Y" issue by simply setting the toolbar scale to a value different than 1.00 ( in lotro option panel -> UI settings tab) (0.99 or 1.01 is ok).
On windows 7, you can switch to the windows desktop without pressing Alt+Enter to switch into windowed mode. For this, press ctrl+alt+F12 then "task manager".

- My character doesn't show in the dressroom !
JRR skins collection doesn't supports resolutions with a height below 768 pixels.
If you run Lotro with a resolution height equal to 768, you have to play in fullscreen mode to get the dressroom correctly displaying the character.
Higher resolutions allow to play indifferently in fullscreen or windowed modes.

- The auction house panel is too big !
Your screen is too small ! ^^
If you run Lotro with a resolution height equal to 768, you have to play in fullscreen mode to get the auction house panel entirely displayed and usable.
Higher resolutions allow to play indifferently in fullscreen or windowed modes.

Skin by skin credits :

- "AuC" original contents come from "AuC Theme - Blue (SoM)" by Gaylen. Many additional panel backgrounds grabbed on Google Images.
- "B.G.M" 4 skins are based on "Black Glass Mix" by Brygard.
- "Delving Hills" both profiles are a JRR revisited edition of "Delving Hills" created by Wicked Mouse. The loading screen comes from Elven Adventuress UI by Silverangel. Auction house background by John Howe.
- "Durin's Folk *short* and *Large*" original contents come from "LM Durin's Folk Revisited", originally created by LedMirage then revisited/updated by Daimon.
- "Eorlingas" both profiles original contents come from "Eorlingas", by Ledmirage and from Eorlingas Revisited Again revisited by ElfHeart.
Character panel background by Ruiz Burgos. The anniversary portraits 1 to 9 are based on vital bars from Riders of the Riddermark by Supermax.
- "Fifty Shades of Grey Wizard" is a raised-to-life edition of "Greyskin UI", created by Maximoz in 2007
- "Greenleaves" mainbar and minimap come from "Greenleaves" created by Chevrefeuille, panel borders and parchment titlebars come from Kaylan's Scroll Action Bar by Kaylan.
- "JappMe *short* and *Large*" original contents come from "JappMe MoM Ivy" 2.0.2 and JappMe Isengard, both by JappMe.
- "Monsters Lair" is a JRR exclusivity, by Adra. It delivers a full "monster play" looking theme. The short toolbar design is based on Small Monster Play Toolbar, by AP Erebus.
- "Spirit of Elfwood" original contents come from "Spirit of Elfwood Reborn" by Kuvasie, Ryshia & Elfheart.
- "The White Hand *large*" original contents come from "The White Hand", by Kaylan.
- "The White Hand *short*" is a JRR exclusive edition of "The White Hand".
- Erebor supports any screen resolution superior or equal to 1152x864.
It is based on the theme "Firebeards" from "The Naugrim - double UI Firebeards/Broadbeams" which is based and combined off of Sinli's Enclaved FIRE&ICE and LM Durin's Folk.
This theme includes 2 profiles : "_JRR Erebor - Universal Toolbar" and "_JRR Erebor - Custom Toolbar 3x2".
The only difference between these two profiles is the toolbar.
The custom toolbar profile is inspired and has some elements from "Enclaved Dwarf UI", created by Sinly and based on elements from LedMirage's Eorlingas.

Re: LArger Preview warsteed panel and Collections ?

@maddog1169

very nice theme collection.
But a smal question -
Isnt there a possibility to make the Warsteed Panel and preview lager as with the Cosmetics and the little previews in the Collection panels ?
Hi, in order to be customisable, panels source codes have to be released in a skinning pack.
As far as I know these 2 panels codes are not included in the last skinning pack released by lotro staff (U22).
In addition, editing a panel which is resizeable ingame with a handle (as collection panel has) can lead to issues.
Then, I don't think it's possible for now.

Dear Adra, thanks for the update! <3

Is it possible that you fix the minimap graphics for the Delving skins?
There used to be these cute flowers around the minimap, but now the minimap is blank except for Delving Large II.

In the original skin set there where those flowers - just beautiful!
Please bring them back!
Hello, indeed, untill the release of the Large Tollbar II edition, there were no flowers around the minimap in the JRR version of delving hills, just a minimal design. This is the result of a choice.

The purpose of the JRR Skins collection is not to "fix and replace" the original themes.
It also revisits them in order to let some leeway to the original authors to keep their interest for maintaining and developing their skin in their original spirit if they choose to come back. (in addition of letting me expressing my own inspiration)

This is particularly true with Delving Hills, whom the author, Wicked Mouse, resumed its work in 2012, after 5 years without updates.
If you compare the original release with the JRR edition, you will notice a large amount of differences designed to offer the users an alternative experience of this wonderful theme.

However I heard you, and in the next JRR release (no date, as I don't plan to release an update until a fix is needed) there will be a different minimap for each skin variation : large 1 = original radar (but with Jappme buttons), large 2 = jappme radar (as now), short toolbar = minimal radar (as now).

EDIT : This is your lucky day !

Hello and thank you for your kind comment, always appreciated

Hello, thanks for the fantastic compilation. Simply awesome.
I have a small issue with the quest panel. The text does not stretch all the way to the bottom and the Aa font size button also is to far up.
Hello and thank you for your kind comment.
Unfortunately at this stage I have no more ressources to work on than any of you
I haven't the ability to read the code directly inside the lotro client to look at the changes introduced in the quest book
This means I can't work on a fix unless SSG releases an update of the skinning pack or communicate the new lines of code embedded in the updated quest book.

I really enjoy the skins and I particularly love the JRR - Erebor *Custom toolbar* and was wondering if there was any way that I could use that toolbar for some of the other skins, in essence, replace the toolbar they use with that one in the file?

If not, can a toolbar like this Erebor custom one be made for the other skins as an option?

Hello, replacing the toolbar from a skin by another one is possible but not very fast nor handy.

A very short lesson about skinning in order to describe the basic way it works

Changing the whole appearance of a panel is divided in 2 actions :
- First consists into editing the size and the location of each element composing the frame of the panel (buttons, text area, borders, sliders, etc) this step consist in building a plan/structure like describing each size and position of each bone of a skeleton.
Skinning only opens the way to edit some existing values of some panel SSG allow us to customize. We don't have the ability to add any new function in a panel. We can only change size and location.
We can turn an element invisible by setting its size to 1x1 pixel (or replacing it picture file by a blank one in the next part).
- The second part consists of drawing and including in the theme the replacement picture files (skin) to apply visual material to cover/fill the custom structure defined in the plan (the custom bones of our skeleton).
All the informations about the changes in the structure of the panels and where to find the custom picture files to cover/fill it are included in the skindefinition.xml file.
The custom picture files (TGA, JPG and PNG) are contained in the skin folders.
When no replacement picture file is indicated for an element in the skindefinition.xml file, the lotro client loads default corresponding picture.
Same thing for panel customization : When no custom values are logged for a panel in the skindefinition file, the lotro client will load the default version of the panel or the default corresponding values).

Here are 2 ways to replace a toolbar by yourself
... but be aware the result will probably require some further fiddling to be free of defaults

Disclaimer : To make it the most easy and short possible, the following step by step way to proceed is only intended for editing themes that don't already require to edit their skindefinition.xml file in order to define their toolbar location depending your screen resolution.
I mean it SHOULDN'T be applied on Monsters lair short, Delving hills short, BGM short neither Greyskin addon theme and Azure glass themes except "universal".
All other JRR themes should be OK.

To obtain the large Erebor toolbar in replacement of the default lotro toolbar :

Open the Erebor theme folder, then open the "_Custom toolbar 3x2" folder. You will find a "toolbar" folder and a skindefinition.xml file.

Open the skindefinition.xml with your text editor then copy the block of text contained AFTER the line containing

Code:
<SkinName Name="JRR Erebor - Custom Toolbar 3x2"></SkinName>
and BEFORE the line containing

Code:
<!-- End of toolbar -->
Now locate your destination theme and open its own skindefinition.xml file, then paste this block of text AFTER the line containing [code]<SkinName Name="YOUR DESTINATION THEME NAME.....

The goal of placing the block of code near the beginning of the text is to prioritize the new pictures files injected over those logged farther in the text, in case of duplicate entries (and there will be some ).

save the changes made in your edited skindefinition.xml file.

Now copy the "toolbar" folder located inside the "_Custom toolbar 3x2" folder and paste it in your destination theme in the SAME folder than the edited skindefinition.xml file

Now go in the main/root folder of Erebor theme then copy these folders : "toolbar", "misc" and "startmenu" then paste them in the main/root folder of your destination theme (choose "overwrite" folders and files if Windows asks you what to do for duplicate files and folders).

Close the relaunch lotro if it was running. Cross fingers, pray the Valars, then launch lotro and load your character wearing this skin to see the result

Hello, thanks for the fantastic compilation. Simply awesome.

I have a small issue with the quest panel. The text does not stretch all the way to the bottom and the Aa font size button also is to far up.

Here is an example:

I just came back to LOTRO and I wanted to say Thank You.

Playing without my JRR Erebor UI would definitely not be the same!

Hello everyone and sorry for the late reply, I didn't noticed till now that the last messages notifications I received were sent to the spam folder of my webmail before the were redirected to my mailing software.

@Juraviel
about universal toolbar based skins

1 - On universal short toolbars icon on the left and on the right of the main toolbar can be turned invisible but cannot be disabled.
In the option menu you can replace a function button by another one, so for example with the filter button which was not yet updated to be turned invisible, you had the ability to replace it another function button to get to turn it invisible. On some other skins, only the hobby button is turned invisible in order to let you choose to display or not not the buttons you want, except the "hobby" one (Kenobi ?).

2 - The menu panel icons and the side buttons form the toolbar are the same icons ingame, this means if the buttons at the left and the right of the toolbar are turned invisible, the are invisible to in the left arrow vertical menu, it only appears the background of the buttons which is a different picture, common to all buttons.

3 - You can assign the FX button of your choice in game, shortcut button to access the choice menu is the very small button at the bottom left of the auto attack button.
The big lotro store button at the right end of the toolbar is the default design of the toolbar. Its location cannot be changed in an universal toolbar based skin (a skin which fits to any screen resolution which doesn't require the final user to manually edit the skindefinition.xml with a text editor file to properly place the toolbar by changing X and Y values to locate it at the middle bottom of the screen, depending its resolution). To say it simple, an universal toolbar only change the pictures applied on the default toolbar, so it behave exactly as the default toolbar since there is zero line of code to modify it.
This is a limitation of the game. Modifying the "internal mechanics" of the toobar breaks its ability to self-locate at the bottom middle of the screen, so there are just a few skins of that kind included in the JRR pack to avoid frustrating most of the users.

@Invizet
ingame main loading screen

The .TGA file corresponding to the fiullscreen loading screen in game is :
...\Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\JRR Skins collection\JRR CORE\misc\theater_top_bottom.tga

There is a second picture acting as frame of the loading progress bar, it is located in the same folder :
larger_overlay_silver_theater.tga

@Jethpriel
extended quest book issue introduced by lotro update 22.3

Thank you for warning me about the issue with the extended quest book panel, as I'm no more active in game, so I didn't knew about it.
Your code was on the very good way !
I've re balanced the location of many elements and applied it all the JRR skins v6.22.4
I cross fingers it will be as well balanced for english and german lotro clients that it is on mine french one

@Cygx
The default task panel is narrow

I totally agree the task panel quests list looks like a bad joke
In order to customize it, its default code has to be featured in the lotro skinning pack, which is not the case for every panel from the game.
And even when the code is there, it not very simple to recognize it among the numerous panel codes.
And I'm not sure it doesn't shares the code from another panel...
Anyway, I had a look in the skinning pack and did not found it, sorry
