Minimal Header view for those who don't want the "Turbine Vault" look.
 
Description
If you are an altaholic like me, you have spent countless hours logging characters in and out looking for where you put crafting supplies or trophies. Alt Inventory allows you to view a snapshot of your alt's bag inventory, vault and shared storage without leaving game so that you know which character has how many of which items.


NOTE: THIS AND ALL OTHER INVENTORY PLUGINS ONLY HAVE ACCESS TO BAGS, EQUIPPED ITEMS, VAULT AND SHARED STORAGE CURRENTLY. There is no access to Housing Storage or Wardrobe. As soon as Turbine grants Lua plugins access to any other form of storage I and most other developers will add that to our plugins.


Finally, the long awaited version 3.0 update has arrived.


Alt Inventory allows you to quickly and easily view all of your inventory for your character, your alts, all vaults, and shared storage in one view. You can filter the display by item category or enter a case-insensitive search (accent-insensitive as well so this works for DE and FR clients as well!) for an item by name. You can sort the view by Name, reverse Name, Category or Quality. You can also choose to display icons and text, text only or icons only. The window is resizable and movable, will disappear for clean screenshots and can be opened from an icon when desired or by the chat command "/altinventory show".


Version 3.0 now focuses only on inventory display. The Item Tracking features are now a separate plugin, ItemTracker and all non-inventory displays will be in AltViewer. This separation of functionality allows the plugin to function far more efficiently as well as allowing all of the inventories to be merged into a single display.

Quantity details can be viewed by hovering over the name of the item. In the "ALL" view, this will display how many of the item are in each type of storage by character. In an individual storage view (single character, vault or Shared Storage) the detail will show how many are in each container within that storage ("Chests" for vaults and Shared Storage and "Bags" for character).

Tooltips will display when you hover over the icon of any item that your current character can access - if you open your vault, then any item in the vault will show a tooltip even after leaving the vault-keeper until you unload the plugin. Items with a grey and red dotted border will not display a tooltip.


Known Issues:
The mini-icon funtionality has not been implemented in version 3.0 but will return in a future version.

Future plans: a long vacation in a warm climate. oh, for the plugin. um, well, not too many plans until we see what update 10 brings us.

NOTE: I have cleared the version log since 3.0 is a significant code change from prior versions and the bugs/fixes from the prior versions are no longer relevant. The change log now starts with version 3.01. The "Version History.txt" however does cover all prior versions.

Fixed bug when turning on "Current bags display total items" with current character selected and then adding an item to inventory reported by Bill Magill.

Re-implemented the ability to utilize the current character items directly from AltInventory
Re-implemented drag/drop for current items both into and out of AltInventory. Note, drag/drop will ONLY work when displaying the current character's bags.
Re-enabled "Replace Bags" option.
Added "Use Mini Icon" option. Changes the 32x32 square icon to a 16x16 round icon suitable for placement on the compass ring.
Fixed a bug which sometimes prevented the Sort from being properly applied when adding an item (items were sometimes being added in incorrect positions).
Fixed the missing quantity column in Text only display
Doubled the width of the item entries for Text only display to allow for extra long item names

Ver 3.01
Minor bug fix for icon positioning typo in DE and FR clients

____________________Installation__________________ __
To install the Alt Inventory plugin, unzip the entire zip file to your Plugins folder. If you had the game running when you installed the plugin, you will have to type "/plugins refresh" or close and restart the game.

To run the plugin, simply load it. Type "/plugins load altinventory" in your game chat window or set the plugin to load automatically from the Turbine Plugin Manager (type "/plugins manager" in chat or access from the System menu).

When you first close the Alt Inventory window, the icon will appear in the lower left corner of your display, you can drag it to any location you want by holding Ctrl while you drag it and the next time it loads it will remember it's location.

Thanks for the feedback.

AltInventory ver 1 and 2 used to use an interface as you describe (Kiki's plugin was copied from AltInventory). I eliminated the icons for bags and vault in ver 3. Primarily, this change was so that users only need one control to select the storage instead of having to make two choices, first the alt, then the storage type. In ver 1 and 2 there was more info displayed than just inventory but thanks to a Turbine bug it became necessary to split that information off into another plugin (AltViewer, which is still incomplete due to that bug never being fixed by Turbine) so it no longer made sense to require two sets of controls to make one choice. A secondary consideration was the amount of space that the second set of controls for vault/bags selection required - part of the ver 3 design change was providing a smaller interface with less wasted space and fewer controls.

Version 2 used to have a sort option for sorting items by container (bag/chest) which then added a separator to the plugin for each bag/container. When recreating the controls for version 3, I changed how the items are displayed to better facilitate resizing the window but this had the drawback that I was no longer able to span the list to show the container separators. I originally planned to revisit this issue but since no one seemed to be using this option it was a very low priority and was finally dropped altogether. I do not have the time to revisit this at the moment but I will consider adding it back to the ToDo list.

Sending item info to chat is actually more problematic than might seem originally. This is the same problem as creating tooltips for all items. With the currently exposed Lua interface, I can only provide this functionality for the current user's bags and vault/shared storage if a vault keeper is being accessed (when not accessing a vault-keeper, vault/shared items can only display names/icons the same as items from alts)- you can hover over these items in the plugin and see tooltips as well as drag them to chat. If Turbine ever exposes the itemID via Lua then this functionality can be extended to all items.

HI garan! I just found your plugin and this is great! I saw an another same plugin, I choice yours because it is more similar than the original plus I love that I can change the icon visibility and the window size. But the other plugin (Kiki's) have a good idea.

Choice the alt name from list, and use icons for see the vault, bag, shared storage etc. Can you borrow this good idea from the other plugin? It would be nice and make better this plugin.

Ver 3.04 is a bug fix for the problem introduced in U13 when replacing the built-in bags. The bags were reappearing when the user would press 'I' to open inventory even though they were set to disabled. With version 3.04, the bags will no longer display when the plugin is set to Replace Bags.

Symlinks is properly called Symbolic Links and refers to creating linked directories so that multiple accounts can point to the same physical files. This capability is present in Mac/Linux as well as Windows Vista or newer operating systems.

Unfortunately, as noted in a prior post, using symbolic links will cause account wide aggregate data to be overwritten so it is not suggested if you wish to use the "All" view. You can google "Symbolic Link" and your OS to see how to set them up if you are curious.

Thanks for the feedback.

The problem with shared storage is a known issue but currently there is no way to distinquish accounts via Lua. Since the API has no way to know which account you are using (the API is designed to only work with a single account), the shared storage reflects whichever account you were logged into when you most recently accessed the in-game shared storage. I'll look into adding a manual means of tracking accounts and assigning characters so that multiple shared storages can be tracked.

The scrollbar and search pattern issues will be added to my bug list. Thanks for reporting them.

Problem with 30 chars

I love this plugin, but recently I have a problem. I did that trick with the symlinks to see all items of all chars on all three accounts. That works nearly (see [2]) perfect.

But the last days I did some new chars for storage, lotteries and Yulfestival-loot. So now I have 30 chars on three accounts. I opened AltInventory and tried to change to "all chars" to seach for a special item, but the list doesn't fit on the screen. The last alphabetical name is on the bottom of the screen, but the first 2 chars and the "all chars" option are missing and it is not scrollable. This is only with the plain view. When I switch back to the decorative window style the dropdown is working well.

Due to restrictions in the API such as the client crash associated with GetEquipement() and the lack of stat info on items this has not been worth implementing. yet.

Possible to access externally?

For purposes of tracking inventory on kinship storage toons, is it possible to extract the data from outside the game in some format? I'd love to be able to keep inventory on our website so all our kinsmen and kinswomen could stay up to date on what mats and items are available and which need restocking.

However you probably want to look into it yourself as I have no idea what I'm doing

Good catch. I never run without the icon so that has probably been a bug for over a year. I will incorporate it into the next release. Unfortunately I am down a development PC which is causing some RL issues. again. grrrr. this seems to be an annual event so it may take awhile before I get the next version released.

Thanks for the question, I'm sure a number of people have wondered the same thing. While the in-game interface has been modified to look like storage, housing chests have not been exposed to Lua. I had posted a similar comment and request on the beta forums but never received any response from Turbine. Given the complete lack of response to any Lua issues, it seems that the devs that were donating their time to implement Lua (it has never been supported by Turbine, it was all done in the devs free time) may no longer work for Turbine. So, while it should be possible for Turbine to implement this, I'm not going to hold my breath.

Housing Chests

Now that housing chests appear to work like shared storage, do you think we might see Alt Inventory updated to track housing storage?

If so, would we be able to track arbitrary house/kinship chests we have access to? I understand that it would not be possible to update when another player makes a change but it would still be a welcome addition.

Thanks for the comments, glad you enjoy it.

For many users, the "All" view takes a fairly long time to display, especially for those with many alts and older PCs. Additionally, the "All" view doesn't allow using items from the current inventory so it doesn't work well as a bag replacement. However, I can see that for some users this might be favorable so I will consider adding an option to open with "All" view but it won't be the initial default.
