Yup, already came to the same conclusion after I thought about it. hehe.

2.1 will likely go live this weekend with a quick update to it:

/emo addgameemote </emote>

This update will also save all gameemotes into an account/server-wide scope so if you add it on one toon, all your toons under that account will get the update.

When Emo starts up it compares the two lists and uses a subset of them. This gets around the issue of you add /boo and then you get the latest and it's included.

Eventually, there will be a gui for it, but it was quick and easy to do this for now.

There were new emotes with the fall festival can the new emotes be added to this (I know they can I looked at the code but didn't want to upload a patch that could cause confusion later). I was wondering if this could be changed so anyone can easily add new emotes later from the in game UI.
Hmmm. That's a good point. I'd planned on just releasing a new one when new emotes came out, but that's a good point.

What I'll probably do is actually have a separate file for the emotes and hopefully find a way here on LotroInterface to attach it to this project.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it just one emote? /boo?

Gave you 5 stars. I am looking forward to tracking the progress of this project. Nice work thus far and I can't wait to see where you go with it.
Thanks!

I noticed that in your future changes you list ability to sort the categories; in addition to this my next biggest suggestion would be to add some options regarding max width of the bar. For instance, I would like to set the max width at say 4, then if I have more than 4 categories, the remaining wrap to a second row. This would allow me to have say 8 categories in a neat 2x4 box instead of a long 1x8 row.
I gotta say I think sorting is likely gonna get pushed out another cycle. It's not a trivial item... at least from my initial brainstorms. I have figured out a way to do it, I'm just not in love with the implementation.

Layout is definitely one of the things I want to tackle next, as well as some different use scenarios. I've had several requests for just having a bar of the group names with a pulldown menu of sorts that lets one just pick the emote. I've made some progress on that and hope to have something soon.

My next release I plan to let you choose between growing horizontally or growing vertically... and incorporating a max buttons per row/column should be pretty straightforward as I was already planning to create an automatic "grid layout" system.

Thanks for the idea and the support!

2.0 Released, Customize Yourself Silly!

So, 2.0 is here. Finally had enough time to sit down and enact my diabolical (or not) plans for custom emotes. It's as good as I can make it, given the limitations of the system. Hopefully, we'll see some improvements in the future, even if it's just something as simple as whether or not we have a target. I'm a fan of emotes and it'd be great to have a lot more control, but this is decent for now.

What changed?
  • Fixed a couple minor bugs.
  • Added wheel scroll "cycling" so you can find a specific emote to execute. Just move your mouse over the group you want and spin away.
  • There is now code in place to insure your windows/toolbar will all be on-screen. There are still some oddities when windows show up on top of each other, but it's just not a huge priority for me.
  • I changed some of the scoping of saved data. At present, there are 3 data scopes available to us: Account (all servers, all characters on account), Server (all characters on server on account), and Character. The unfortunate thing is there's no easy way to share data across accounts. While I'm sure it's a minority, it would be nice if they let us have a scope for All. I digress. Groups and Custom Emotes are saved at the Account level (all servers, all characters... changes in one place are reflected everywhere for that account). Window positions and options are per-character.
  • And the biggest change was the addition of Custom Emotes.
Sorry if your request didn't make it in, I've got a list and I'll get to them in time.

Meanwhile, enjoy, and please post bugs, feedback, or commentary!

Thanks,
Frell

P.S. If you want to live on the edge and share data between accounts, copy the two files "EmoCustomEmotes.plugindata" and "EmoGroups.plugindata" from your "My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\YOUR_ACCOUNT\AllServers" directory to the AllServers directory in your other account(s). Just be sure to copy from the right place! Given the manual ugliness of this, I can't be responsible for any screwups... use this at your own risk!

I love this add on and I absolutely can not wait for the planned updates - especially the custom emote addition.

I was going to suggest perhaps adding an options panel to actually add more buttons to a bar as well as more bars in order to be able to one click a specific emote rather than cycle through.
I much prefer the idea of a drop-down menu, though! It would keep Emo less bulky and I do love my screen real-estate.

Awesome job on this and thank you very much for it!

Another way to achieve the abililty to select one from the group would be to employ something like what is in the KragenBars tactical buff quickslot for Captains = When your mouse is over the quickslot, you can use the mousewheel to scroll through availabale options.

If there was a button for a drop down list AND the ability to just use the wheel to scroll through the emotes in the given group, that would be my preferance.

An excellent idea as well (and easier to implement!).

Only thing to watch out for there is if you are on "random cycle" it's going to keep randoming you. hehe. I like the idea tho and it's an easy one to add. Consider it done.

P.S. Really enjoying this emo plugin : ) Thank you.
Thanks! It's actually growing on me as well. Originally it was more of a learning experience for the lotro plugin system, but I honestly use it a lot now and it's fun to see what will come up next.

Another option that'd be nice (if possible) would be to have the emotes user-selectable rather than random/cycling. So for example if I click on the top-level Greet button then instead of doing the current emote from that group it'd pop up a submenu/bar with the individual emotes in the group on it, and let me click on one of those. Sometimes you just want something specific (but don't want to have to remember/type it in).
That's a pretty nifty idea. I was actually just considering something similar for how to "show off" your custom emotes. This would definitely do the trick.

I'll likely make a separate button attached to the bottom of the existing button which "pulls down" (or pops up) the available list.

Thanks for the feedback!

Not sure if this is what was meant by the questions already asked about custom emotes but...

Is there currently a way using Emo to use the existing emotes, but have the accomanying text be determined by me?

What I mean is - I often type: /flex sniffs his armpit to check for B.O.

The result being, my character does the flex emote action, while the text that appears in chat says: <name> sniffs his armpit to check for B.O.

You can enter any text after an emote command and it will do the emote and give the description you wrote.

I'd like to be able to set my Emo emotes to do this. To choose an emote from the list, and optionally enter cutsom text to accompany the action.

Possible?
That's exactly what I'm currently working on.
