I love this add on and I absolutely can not wait for the planned updates - especially the custom emote addition.

I was going to suggest perhaps adding an options panel to actually add more buttons to a bar as well as more bars in order to be able to one click a specific emote rather than cycle through.
I much prefer the idea of a drop-down menu, though! It would keep Emo less bulky and I do love my screen real-estate.

Awesome job on this and thank you very much for it!

2.0 Released, Customize Yourself Silly!

So, 2.0 is here. Finally had enough time to sit down and enact my diabolical (or not) plans for custom emotes. It's as good as I can make it, given the limitations of the system. Hopefully, we'll see some improvements in the future, even if it's just something as simple as whether or not we have a target. I'm a fan of emotes and it'd be great to have a lot more control, but this is decent for now.

What changed?
  • Fixed a couple minor bugs.
  • Added wheel scroll "cycling" so you can find a specific emote to execute. Just move your mouse over the group you want and spin away.
  • There is now code in place to insure your windows/toolbar will all be on-screen. There are still some oddities when windows show up on top of each other, but it's just not a huge priority for me.
  • I changed some of the scoping of saved data. At present, there are 3 data scopes available to us: Account (all servers, all characters on account), Server (all characters on server on account), and Character. The unfortunate thing is there's no easy way to share data across accounts. While I'm sure it's a minority, it would be nice if they let us have a scope for All. I digress. Groups and Custom Emotes are saved at the Account level (all servers, all characters... changes in one place are reflected everywhere for that account). Window positions and options are per-character.
  • And the biggest change was the addition of Custom Emotes.
Sorry if your request didn't make it in, I've got a list and I'll get to them in time.

Meanwhile, enjoy, and please post bugs, feedback, or commentary!

Thanks,
Frell

P.S. If you want to live on the edge and share data between accounts, copy the two files "EmoCustomEmotes.plugindata" and "EmoGroups.plugindata" from your "My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\YOUR_ACCOUNT\AllServers" directory to the AllServers directory in your other account(s). Just be sure to copy from the right place! Given the manual ugliness of this, I can't be responsible for any screwups... use this at your own risk!

Gave you 5 stars. I am looking forward to tracking the progress of this project. Nice work thus far and I can't wait to see where you go with it.

I noticed that in your future changes you list ability to sort the categories; in addition to this my next biggest suggestion would be to add some options regarding max width of the bar. For instance, I would like to set the max width at say 4, then if I have more than 4 categories, the remaining wrap to a second row. This would allow me to have say 8 categories in a neat 2x4 box instead of a long 1x8 row.

I gotta say I think sorting is likely gonna get pushed out another cycle. It's not a trivial item... at least from my initial brainstorms. I have figured out a way to do it, I'm just not in love with the implementation.

Layout is definitely one of the things I want to tackle next, as well as some different use scenarios. I've had several requests for just having a bar of the group names with a pulldown menu of sorts that lets one just pick the emote. I've made some progress on that and hope to have something soon.

My next release I plan to let you choose between growing horizontally or growing vertically... and incorporating a max buttons per row/column should be pretty straightforward as I was already planning to create an automatic "grid layout" system.

Thanks for the idea and the support!

New emotes

There were new emotes with the fall festival can the new emotes be added to this (I know they can I looked at the code but didn't want to upload a patch that could cause confusion later). I was wondering if this could be changed so anyone can easily add new emotes later from the in game UI.

Hmmm. That's a good point. I'd planned on just releasing a new one when new emotes came out, but that's a good point.

What I'll probably do is actually have a separate file for the emotes and hopefully find a way here on LotroInterface to attach it to this project.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it just one emote? /boo?

AFAIK yes but I just thought if the user could easily update the emotes list they would not need a new version to use them the new emotes.

Yup, already came to the same conclusion after I thought about it. hehe.

2.1 will likely go live this weekend with a quick update to it:

/emo addgameemote </emote>

This update will also save all gameemotes into an account/server-wide scope so if you add it on one toon, all your toons under that account will get the update.

When Emo starts up it compares the two lists and uses a subset of them. This gets around the issue of you add /boo and then you get the latest and it's included.

Eventually, there will be a gui for it, but it was quick and easy to do this for now.

Nice PlugIn, when used in an english client. But there are some issues with other languages. Any plans to translate it into other languages (I can help translate it into german if needed)? I tried it myself, but in german some emotes use "Umlaute" (ä ö ü) and that seems to be a problem for Emo ^^ It shows strange signs instead of these letters and the emotes won't work. Also groups containing such 'spezial' emotes will become completely unaccessible.

Keep up the good work

Thanks!

Sorry about the problem with special characters. I'm not quite sure how to handle it yet and I've got a new version waiting to be released with the Nov 29th patch. The new version let's you add "Turbine" emotes I might have missed and fixes some other minor bugs.

I'm also working on another plugin at present, but after I get these two released I'll definitely take you up on your offer!

Yet another plugin noob question

Hey there,

I'm just getting started in plugins so pls, bear with me.

I got the new turbine files DLed, got BuffBars, Palantir, TonicBars, and all the examples to run perfect in game, so I know I'm installing em right, but when I try and load AltInventory, your Emo, and KrahenBars Leveled I get the same couple of fails every time during loading.

...e Rings Online\Plugins\FrelledPlugins\Emo\EmoBar.lua:3: Unable to resolve package "Turbine.Utils".
...Rings Online\Plugins\FrelledPlugins\Emo\__init__.lua:12: Failed to import package "FrelledPlugins.Emo.EmoBar".
...the Rings Online\Plugins\FrelledPlugins\Emo\Main.lua:1: Failed to import package "FrelledPlugins.Emo".

Any help would be greatly appreciated

JW

Hi JW, only way that happens now is if you didn't get the latest Emo or you have it installed in the wrong spot. It doesn't include Turbine.Utils in a way that could cause an error anymore.

So maybe completely remove the Emo directory, then reinstall it and restart lotro.

Let me know if the problem persists!

error

Okay so I'm a noob at scripting but I'm not new to plugins for lotro or using addons in other games.... all my plugins are updated and working correctly except for emo.... Here is the message I have been reciving (and yes I uninstalled and reinstalled just in case)

...ings Online\Plugins\FrelledPlugins\Emo\EmoEmotes.lua:5: Unable to resolve package "Turbine.UI.Extensions".

...Rings Online\Plugins\FrelledPlugins\Emo\__init__.lua:11: Failed to import package "FrelledPlugins.Emo.EmoEmotes".

...the Rings Online\Plugins\FrelledPlugins\Emo\Main.lua:1: Failed to import package "FrelledPlugins.Emo".

Unable to load "emo".

I refreshed plugins and I am showing emo (2.2.1) so I'm not sure what the problem is. Can someone please help me or is this a common error? I was really looking forward to trying out this plugin.

Okay, I'll check this tonite. I certainly don't get the error, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I'll also clean up the imports to only include what is strictly necessary as that seems to be the case here.

If I can reproduce the problem, I'll push a 2.2.2 tonite. This all stems from the recent reorganization of the API files by Turbine. I thought I had them all taken care of... what is undoubtedly happening is another one of my plugins is loading the Extensions from the correct location which is why I don't get the error... or something.

At any rate, I'm currently working on a new plugin and also attempting to work a translation system into Emo... which has turned out to be a lot harder than it should have been due to the emote commands not being the same in every language.
