More info

Ok, so yesterday I uninstalled Emo again and went through the LOTRO file for any remaining files. Under PluginData/user/server/ in the individual character folders I found some leftovers: EmoBarSettings.plugindata, EmoGroupEditWindowSettings.plugindata, and EmoOptionsWindowSettings.plugindata. I deleted these, reinstalled and everything works fine now. I even tried to get it to break again - added the snowwizard and warmhands emotes, made a custom emote, logged in and out, everything I did before. Nothing. I have no idea what happened but at least it's working again.

Thanks again for the plugin. Looking forward to being able to sort the groups the way we want!

Hi I just wanted to say thanks for this plug in,it helped me big time on the holiday dances.

There is one bug that I have encounter for me anyways.

When I make a macro like this:
I remove all the macro buttons that you have in default and start fresh.

First macro I create is /dance1
Second Dance2
Third dance3

When I log out the game and log in my macro for dance 1 is in the middle instead of first like I have before.
Yah this is actually on the feature list. At present things are sorted when they are saved out. This is because with lua's table structures you are never guaranteed a specific order, so I enforce one with sorting. In the future, you'll be able to order them however you like.

If you like using Emo for the dance contest, you should definitely check out the default group called Deeds. These are all the emotes which (currently) result in deeds which can get you titles. They need to be performed *on* you, but if you have a friend who uses Emo, you can quickly get your 5 a day in (well, don't click too fast or you'll miss some). Just set your option to Cycle instead of Random and then click through them all, watching for the first emote in the group to come back around. Do that 5 times and in 20 sessions you'll have all your titles (and emotes unlocked) except a couple which require 200 hits.

Christmas Vacation Update

Well, I thought I was going to get a whole bunch of work done on three addons currently in the works... but... well, I got into vacation mode and really took a break from anything resembling work (coding).

So, I'll hopefully be getting some free time to work on this soon.

Sorry, I can't believe I left out the line number! The complete error message says "...ings Online\Plugins\FrelledPlugins\Emo\EmoEmotes.lua:23 1: attempt to call global 'out' (a nil value)". Hope that helps. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the plugin and the LOTRO UIs but nothing changed.
No problem! Thanks for getting the info. I'll take a look tonite and see if I can reproduce it.

Before releasing I do a "clean" install to make sure it loads correctly. This last time I might've foregone that step tho, but I don't think I did.

At any rate, I'll see if there's something sneaking in here.

Hi there!

First of all, thank you so much for creating such a useful application, which really enhances gameplay in LOTRO. The ability to really take advantage of the extensive existing emote library is wonderful, but it's just as wonderful to be able to easily create custom emotes which can then be so easily accessed!

This said, I have a request which I am hoping you might put on your list of things to do with further development of Emo. My eyesight isn't the greatest, but I have managed to create a screen setup which keeps things pretty darn small, so I can have the cleanest display possible for me. The drawback now of course, is that Emo's text is TINY! I'm wondering if you could implement a way to resize your bar, independent of the ingame resizing of toolbars, so I can actually see the emotes. Perhaps the real solution is to allow for changing the button color and/or text color on the toolbar, which in many case, can make a great deal of difference in readability.

In any case, thanks again for this lovely application!
Thanks so much for the kind words.

I'll play around with it and see what I can do. I think I can manage something which would basically let you define the button width and the font size or something. I believe someone's written a font chooser already. If not, I'll probably just define some defaults and let you choose small, medium, large or something like that.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I like the ideas of groups but I also like the idea of using the mouse wheel to scroll through a group and pick the emote I want to use. If I do this I'd like that emote to remain on top until I choose otherwise. Having said that, I'd like to set up a couple groups that randomly change as well so a mixture of options for each group would be the best.

Hope that makes sense.
Yup, sure does. I'll add it to the list.

Re: Dropdown emotes

Hi, this addon is almost exactly what I need, but in it's current state I find it confusing to use. I only have seem to have the option to cycle random emotes. What I think it would be very handy is if we had the ability to click a bar, and have categorized emotes show up in a drop down/up window so we can select the one we want. Is there any possible way to add this functionality to emo?

I have bad eyes & I'm sure I'm not the only person out there with bad eyes...lol, that being said white text on a gray background is difficult to read at the current text size, maybe also the option to change the background and text color could be helpful.

Thanks for your had work,
Angel
The concept behind Emo was there are a lot of emotes that mean similar things. Ways to greet folks, different dances, things to do when bored, etc. So, group them together and then click to do something a little different each time. One can cycle through or use random to have one chosen at random.

There does appear to be a lot of requests for different functionality than the original intent and I'm taking all of that into consideration with the rewrite/reorganization. And yes, color of background and color of text will be an option.

I don't think I'll be implementing menus though. It would be a significant amount of work to get shortcuts to behave as menu items. If you want to go that route, I suggest using NuclearTonic's Tonic Bars. You can create groups of "slide out" bars which could easily contain shortcuts to emotes. Of course, then you also lose the background and text color options, etc.

At any rate, your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Re: Sudden complications!

@dakuth:
First off, you are correct. I've been able to reproduce this fairly nasty little bug. The problem is there's no good way to fix it. Since I was having troubles creating a translation due to how I originally stored data, plus not being able to add some newer features, I'm going to rewrite from the ground up (re-using some stuff, but significant changes with other parts). I hope to get this done over the Christmas break here.

Can you provide me the specific error? There should be a line number in there.

@Fringe:
I'll add your suggestions to the list. I'm not sure what the heck a static click is tho? You mean a group that clicking on always results in the same emote? What would be the point of having a group if it always came up with the same emote to click? Or are you thinking you want to be able to set it every time you log in... like an emote of the day?

As for turning on/off the graphics surrounding the bar, that could be done. Perhaps a compact mode. I just didn't want folks confused thinking this was a normal toolbar, which it's not and cannot be.

@Everyone:
So, there will be a new version coming which should see some new requested features, translations, and more reliability.

Just started using this and I had a couple of thoughts. I'm sure that these are probably impossible but it never hurts to ask.

1. Click Action = Static option
2. No graphics option (just the buttons themselves)
3. Ability to change button colors

Thanks for your hard work and dedication. I look forward to see whatever else you take on.

EDIT: You can skip #2 & #3 as I've altered the bar graphics to fit my preferences and have removed the references to the side graphics so they don't display. I've also come to like the grey so the color works great.

I'd still love to see #1 implemented as an option though. It would actually be great to have it set for each group individually so that some would remain static while others rotated as need be.

EDIT: Two things that I noticed that I'd like to add to the above list:

4. Ability to delete custom emotes
5. Ability to move and lock groups. Each time I add a new group the order goes out of whack, which makes it difficult when you name the groups with numbers.

Thanks again.
