Status: Flagged for Future Version
I've noticed that their is a "Status Line" at the bottom of the application. This line displays the name of the currently selected item in the Element Navigation Panel. It works fine.

What I'm looking for is basically the other half of that function. A means of identifying an item in the viewer panel. I'm not sure if this would require hovering the mouse to get a tooltip. Or perhaps clicking the item to select it. Either way the user would get feedback that tells them the item's name. This would make it easier to identify items that need further editing.

Optimally there would be a button or keyboard shortcut to select that item within the Element Navigation Panel.

I do want to add some mouse picking function to the application at some point. When that happens, I will change the status to show the current element the mouse is over.

This request and the "Show all active UI Elements in Navigation Panel" request are similar. They're both about giving feedback to the user. One is macro (UI Panel names) the other micro (UI Element names). But it might be feasible to combine them into a single function.

Perhaps mouse picking a UI Element, from any actively displayed UI Panel within the viewer, would force an update of the Element Navigation. It would pop open the tree view to the UI Elements placement.

I was going to expand this request to include the highest level parent's name anyway and this functionality would fulfill things perfectly.

And using a bold font for each actively displayed UI Panel's parent name would help to show these are separate portions/structures within the XML code.

The one major issue I am having with mouse picking right now is how to handle when multiple elements exist at one location. A great example of this is the Legendary Item panel. There are 2 veiws available based on whether a LI has been slotted or not, which causes both versions to be visible in the editor.

I may just start with picking Panels and see how that goes.

It sounds as though a UI Panel's z-order is becoming an issue. Panels (and containers) might afford you with a simple means of accounting for the z-order. I've thought of a few ways to communicate the z-order, but the most viable is going to borrow from graphics applications: Layers, Layer Management and the Mini-map.

Obviously not all of these functions can be used within this context, but the overall concept should work.

Z-Order is not too difficult to figure out. The problem comes when there is an element that is not visible that may be in front of the element you want to select. And there might be a reason for that invisible element to be in front.

Anyways, I will continue to look into this.
