Graphics noob question

Sigh..... I knew this was going to come.

I've tried to goggle this and couldn't find an answer and I feel like such a hobbit (little person) to ask but...

What is the easiest way to create an invisible texture?

I dont have a ton of money to drop on photoshop or adobe illistrator but I did just buy Xara Extreme (www.xara.com) in case anyone needs to know what it can do in order to help me.

Hey ElvenWitch. There are a couple threads about this in the Tutorials section, here and here.

I read those but it doesn't say "how" to create the invisible 1x1 pixel. That is what I'm trying to do.

Actually the second post about making the 256x256 invisible .tga graphic is exactly what i want to do. My computer is poo and has issues enough without the added lag of the UI because it's trying to render thousands of 1x1 invisible textures. So I was going to take Frosty's advice and create a bigger one and let the engine do the work of cutting it down.

You know, I've never actually made an entire texture that is "invisible", but I would _think_ that all you have to do is create a file of X size and leave it completely blank, then save it preserving the alpha channel. I've no doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong though.

When I get home around 12am cst I can make one for you unless some one else beats me to it. I use photoshop so I could tell you how to do it there but since you said you dont have it I'm not sure what other programs can do it.

Also keep in mind dont make it 1px. Frosty explains why here: http://www.lotrointerface.com/forums...hread.php?t=33

try using The Gimp gfx package, free dl at http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

create new file > choose px sizes > tick transparency on > save as tga file with full compression

Its pretty self explanatory but if you need a video tutorial or image walk through i can make one.

I'm not crazy about gimp. I'm waiting on my copy of xara. I'm having issues with getting it however. But I think you've given me enough information to make one. I wasn't sure if it was that easy or not but appearently it is. (guess it would have been easier if I have my graphics program already )

I wasn't to crazy about Gimp either but now that I'm accustomed to it, it's pretty good! Photoshop, without the price tag

Keeping me busy busy busy. Thank you for all your help. I was able to create a 256x256 size .tga in about 4 clicks. That was alot easier then I expected .
