Interface tools

I keep hearing tid-bits on LOTRO having more future support for custom UI's including possibly an editor. Has anyone else heard this rumor? Also to edit the UI now, what program does everyone use? And is there a tutorial on how to make one?

Thank you,

Taipans

There is a lot of discussion on this board about the future of the Interface for LotRO, including numerous posts by Frosty and agentfive, two of Turbine's UI team. I could link you to all the specific threads and posts, but that would be an incredibly long list. Your best bet is to look through the forums here, specifically here in the Developer Discussions section of the board. Keep an eye out for the posts by Frosty and agentfive.

There is also quite a bit of information about how to work with what is currently possible here in the Dev Discussions sections, as well.

Not a problem Taipans. It always takes time to get used to a new site, figuring out where everything is and such. That was why I directed you specifically to the Dev Discussions section of the board, and pointed out that Frosty and agentfive are both posting here, so to keep an eye out for posts by them.

I'll squash that rumor!

Currently, you can skin the UI's images.

At some point in the (unspecified) future you should be able to move and resize the stock UIs we've given you. This does not mean create your own UIs or introduce real-time scaling of existing UIs (i.e making the LFF panel wider by click and dragging the mouse on the panel edge.)

At some point in the (way unspecified) future, we'd like to be be able to allow you to specify your own UIs and intercept the events we're sending to our UIs in game so that you can specify functionality on your UIs.

At some point in the (way way unspecified) future, we'd like to be able to allow you to specify your own events and commands similar to WoW to implement all kinds of cool UI features.

Hope that helps!

thanks frosty

Thanks for the update on the future of the LotRO ui, Frosty. Its amazing how much it means to be getting info "straight from the horse's mouth" rather than the usual mind-numbing gossip we (the ui lovin' public) dread. With Warcraft and EQ2, I probably spent half the time i actually spent in-game developing the "perfect" interface. I'm looking forward to continuing that trend, and your (unspecified) plans give me hope Thanks again for all that you've done here, especially considering the hooplah I'm sure you guys are going through this close to launch. You guys have done a helluva job, and we all appreciate it greatly.

I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything, but why wasn't UI scaling included from the start? I play at 1920 x 1080 on a 46" HD TV and everything is just way way too small, in fact its so bad I can't play for more than an hour at a time due to eye strain.
