MP3 player maybe?

Now, simply starting windows media player in the background isn't too much trouble, but I thought that having it running in the background put more of a strain on the computer thus causing the game to run slower. Is the effects major, noticeable or small?

But What I really wanted to ask, if it was possible to add an MP3 player in game. The music system in the game already is cool, and the in-game BGM is nice also, but I was just wondering.

Has this been asked before. Sorry if it's a stupid sounding question. I won't ask again if it's a stupid question and thread.

Yeah it's been asked before ;)

It ain't doable atm. Even if it would be you still most likely would need to run some third party MP3 player on the background to play the music. The plugin would most likely just control the MP3 software.

If this ever will be doable it will probably take a long time before they will allow the community to do such a thing.

If you had a 3rd party player, that player could possibly watch a file which the addon writes to, and the player could possibly write to that file and the plugin could load the information from that file.
I think that's the only way to communicate between an addon and an external program.

Aw, ok. Well, does running windows media player in the background slow down the performance and speed of the game much?

listening to MP3's doesn't consume much of your cpu cycles but it might have a small impact on some older machines on your gaming performance.

not sure how much media player uses resources - if you're sturggling you could try some other players out there.

Nah, the one I got for now is fine and I don't feel like looking for another program.

Well, thanks anyways.

A true in-game player in the future would be nice but for the time being I usually use Winamp and control it through the keyboard player keys.

I use Windows Media Player (WMP). My only gripe is that I have to alt tab to control it. It's a little annoying that an old game like EQ 1 has an ingame mp3 player and LOTRO doesn't. I'd just like an ingame gui for WMP, VLC, or Winamp. I don't have Winamp installed as WMP does what I need, but I'd use Winamp if LOTRO could interface with it. Resource wise, WMP is negligible. I've got an aging Pentium Dual Core running at 2.4GHz with only 2GB of ram and I don't have any issues whatsoever. I run the game with many of the settings on high or max at 1680x1050 with an also aging 8800GT video card.

That's good to know. I sometimes get tired of the in-game music, and sometimes the songs I have are more fitting than others in the game.
