Skin Viewer

I am working on tool so you can see what you skin will look like in the game without having to log in. Here is a quick screen shot (using agentfive's MonsterTime skin):

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/6964/skinviewerfz6.th.jpg

You can select you own background, toggle the main toolbar on and off, and reload you images/XML files on the fly.

This is not an actual interface, so you cannot click buttons and have menus open, but it will give you an idea of what the skin will look like.
Still a ton of work to do before it is finished.

Some of my todo list:
Toggle the tile pattern on/off
Select normal/pressed/rollover mode for buttons

Let me know what you think.

Thats looking great. This will really help things so you can have this open and photoshop so you can tweak things and see how they look right away.

Very nice work D.H1cks! This will be so helpful for interface authors! Kudos! :)

Zedicius 04-08-2007 12:57 AM

You will be my number one friend!! I have taken a break from skinning just because I don't feel like logging in 100 times to see how it looks. Please keep us posted!

D.H1cks 04-08-2007 10:32 AM

Well, scratch those items off my todo list, they are working now. Here is an updated screenshot:

Still todo:
Make all the interface windows (lots of work)
Figure out how to make the text in the windows look right.

That looks great man. I have been looking at that skin and the blue scrolls one. im kinda on the fence for both atm.

This is very impressive so far. There will be some stuff in the works that will help make figuring out what sizes the various panels are, but it's not ready for the general release yet.

Thanks. The one thing I am waiting for is the final list of ArtAssetIDs, but info about the panels sizes, etc. will be good to know too.

I have uploaded the current version for people to start using and provide feedback. Enjoy.

skin viewer keeps crashing

I keep trying to execute the skin viewer but it crashes each time. Am I missing some runtimes or something?

D.H1cks 05-02-2007 03:22 PM

There are only 5 files needed to run. The main program, the background image, the default XML file, and two tga files.

You do need to make sure you have .Net installed. Also, are you running XP or Vista? I have not tested the program on Vista, so I cannot say for sure if it will work.

If you can capture any error message data and send it to me in a PM, that would be helpful too.

If you execute LOTRO and Skin Viewer in same time, it could make mistakes Work offline on your skin with the Viewer and leave it before launching LOTRO that will prevent that Skin Viewer crash.

To D.H1cks
I'm impatiently wainting for your next version to continue my WoW Style Skin beacause my account on LOTRO is Off and I'll not buy the game. And I would like to completely finish it !
(I think that almost all known ArtAssetID's are used in my skin so you can test your Skin Viewer with my skin)

I have found that it will crash if you run it with the game at the same time. Will have to look into fixing that.

Just posted the newest version (3.0), lots added, but still more to be done. Thanks for getting so much stuff in your skin, it makes testing the viewer that much easier. If there is anything in particular you need added, let me know.

Aborting during startup

I run "LOTRO UI Skin Viewer.exe". I then get two error windows. The first is:

"Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: 'Fenir_Cpt_Wood_DB' Key being added: 'Fenir_Cpt_Wood_DB'" and an <OK> button.

I click on the <OK> button and get the next windows:

"Could not initialize the program. Exitting now." and an <OK> button. clicking on it ends the program.

Any ideas? would really like to use your skin viewer program!

Thanks

I found this happens if you have two UIs in your folder with the same name (SkinName Name...) in the XML file.

Hope that helps,
Kuv

Yup, the program does not play nice when you try to have two skin sets with the same name.

I will have another version out soon that will handle that better than it currently does. In the meantime, please rename one of your skins.

thanks!

Getting an Error..WindowsApplication1 occured an exception...any idea?

There may be a solution to problems with the program crashing on startup. If your DirectX runtime files are not completely up to date, it will probably crash. Click on the link below to get the most recent DirectX runtime.

DirectX June 2007 Update

I have to thank Grimholm for helping me out with this.
