Introducing LotROnion (MMOUI Minion Plugin)
IMPORTANT: Until now this ool is mainly designed for authors to experiment with it since the configuration files (see below) are missing from almost all plugins.
Hi guys 'n' gals allow me to introduce (a BETA version of) my small and humble plugin for the MMOUI Minion that is using lotrointerface.com as target. For the lack of ideas, I'll call it Lotronion (LOTRO+Minion) DOWNLOAD What does it do? As I said, this is a plugin for the the MMOUI Minion. (http://minion.mmoui.com/) The Minion is a Java-based application to easily update plugins for games, basically. And since LotRO is game with plugins and there is no plugin so far, I whipped this one up. ;) This plugin is used by the Minion to update the Plugins that you have installed in your LotRO installation. Ok, so how does it work? After installing the plugin and starting the minion, it asks you for the location of the Plugin directory. If you do not know where the directory is, you most likely wont have any plugins installed since you have to have it created manually before adding any plugins (thanks to Turbine being the lazy b****)! The minion then scans your LOTRO-plugins for those that can be managed and shows them to you. Wait, wait, wait. How do I install this Lotronion? Simple. Download it from the link above. Download the Minion if you havent done so already. Start the Minion and open the "Tools->Module Center" there you hit the button "Install Module" and select the Lotronion file. Done. I started the thing but there are no plugins/some are missing! LOTRO plugins need to have a special file within them that is needed by the Lotronion to find out stuff about the plugin (name, author, download link, and so on) It is the plugin author's job to create and include this file in his/here plugin. Lotronion is no self-concious, intelligent artifical intelligence :D Special file? What special file does the LOTR plugin need to be shown in the Minion? The Lotronion is using the same file as the LOTROPluginCompendium. This means that: - there needs to be a certain directory structure within the Plugin - there needs to be a file called "somethingsomething.compendium" in the directory structure - the file needs to follow the schema as defined by lunarwtr (Author of LPC) So basically if I want to use Lotronion now, there won't be any Plugins in the list? Correct! As far as I know, there is no plugin within lotrointerface.com that supplies the described .compendium file until now. So let me join lunarwtr's request at this point: AUTHORS, please create the .compendium file in your plugin! Its basically just a tiny XML with no extra amount of work except for keeping the version number concurrent.. At this point please understand that unlike the LPC from lunarwtr, Lotronion does not try to gather information about a plugin when the .compendium file is missing. Nor does it have an internal list of .compendium files to reference them to plugins. To maintain this list would take WAY to much time since it would need an update everytime a plugin is updated  Configuration File Schema: For those of you plugin authors who are familiar with XML schemas I created a small one describing the configuration file that is needed for a plugin. Download here A final word for now: This is a BETA. :D Errors and Misbehavior are not optional but mandatory. Bugs, comments and so forth can be directed to the "REPLY" Button of this post. Bye now. I would suggest uploading your plugin for approval for addition to the Plugins section of Downloads where I'm sure it would get more attention. Personally, I don't download unknown software from external sources and I'm sure many others feel the same way. It's just too risky.

I'd personally just stick with LotRO Minion. Otherwise it sounds like either a support group for LotRO addicts (LotROnon), or a middle-earth grown vegetable (LotROnion). lol
|
Thanks for the feedback. I m putting it up in the download section.
Well, to be honest I am hoping that a name like LotROnion will stick in the people's heads because it sounds like something they know (a vegetable as you pointed out :D) I personally don't mind. Maybe I should upload it with a new nick "veggie-lord" .... ;) |
Hey Slacky, we're checking it over and will hopefully be approving it shortly. I just wanted to say thank you, we appreciate you making a module for it for this site! :)
|
Don't mention it. Just don't release any brand new "plugin-info-gathering-webservice" you might have been developing cause then I'll have to rewrite EVERYTHING :o
|
I think this thread is worth sticky'ing so the plugin authors wont miss it so easily, at least for now
|
Could a mod be so kind and fix the GIGANTUOUS typo in the title... I can't

Thanks for taking care of the sticky, Daimon. Thread title changed as per request. :)

A list of addons already supporting this would be nice.

That being said, I can't bring myself to release an update for Palantir for just a single file, plus - I'm not in Windows right now, so I don't have access to SVN at this point anyway. However, seeing people work together for the purpose of a standard always makes me happy, so I'm going to do the next best thing. Namely, just release the appropriate file. Now, I hope I did this right - I used the example in the LPC thread as a base. If not, just let me know and I'll fix it! Also worth mentioning - this file should go in your Plugins/DigitalUtopia/ folder (look for Palantir.plugin, that's the right spot) |
File looks good, haven't checked it since I m still at work. Nice to have another supporter in the "team" ;-)
About the list of supported plugins, it is quite difficult to keep track of all the plugins on the site (log in on daily basis, check for plugin updates, check if the plugincompendium file was added, ask the authors per PM, and so on...) This is not a difficult task, but rather a bothersome, I'll admit. I prefer spending my time with doing other things than doing this. This being said, I will not create a list of addons. Most plugin authors do however keep a very clean version history and put the info about the support in there. So if you want to know if a plugin is supported, just load the plugin site and read the changelog. |
Noone said you should do the list, but helping the site visitors is a bonus for them.
That being said, I could share my experience with the already compatible addons. MoorMap by Garan HugeBag by Habna Palantir (downloadable above) by Digital_Utopia Tulkas by Galuhad Waypoint by lunarwtr MonsterItems, TravelWindow, HunterFocus, PagedSlots by D.H1cks Eclipse UI by Eclipse Maybe there are more but I don't have those.
