Thanks ^_^

Just downloaded it and I am lovin' it! Keep up the good work!

Kirsche 03-18-2008 12:01 PM

I gave this a run on my Hobbit Hunter and it is very nice! I ended up replacing the toolbar with an invisible one I made, despite how well you made yours. I just prefer having nothing but an xp bar and a focus meter; the toolbar/bag buttons and the autoattack button are useless to me as I use keybinds for all of those things.

I only saw one glitch in my short time playing with this skin. The image for the copper coin is a pixel too short, causing it to tile (a mildly noticeable copper-y pixel or two). Adding another row of invisible black to the bottom (to make it 27x22 like the other coin images) fixes it.

As for suggestions...I think the player vitals frame seems a bit plain. I like the NPC frames (including the plain one), but since the player's frame is *always* on the screen, I think it could use a little something. Perhaps some sort of pattern (wood-burned?) in the middle of the wood around the portrait (like the deco in default frames) would liven it up a little without being overbearing. I also had a look at the toolbar before I replaced it with my own. I think that the xp bar would look nicer if it looked a little more like it was carved out of the house rather than stuck on like a decal. A little black inner glow could probably do the trick.

There are so many nice little details you put into this skin. I think one of my favorites so far is the butterfly on the secure trade screen. I hadn't looked at the files prior to loading it up in-game and that was such a nice surprise. I'm definitely looking forward to the future updates! Despite the suggestions I made, I love this skin and it has my hobbit's seal of approval. :D

I personally dislike toolbar art in general, so I replaced the toolbar with an invisible one I made.
I think Wicked Mouse has done a great job with the toolbar. I believe that Wicked Mouse, like myself, uses the toolbar art as a center piece and a basic summary of what the rest of the skin should feel like. I believe that drawing heavy emphasis on the toolbar is necessary to capture what the artist is trying to convey. Also, I believe you have the most freedom when designing art for the toolbar as compared to borders which are rather small and can become easily cluttered (I found that out the hard way.)

Wow this sounds like an attack but it really isn't trust me. <3 <3 lol...

I guess my question is, aside from the obvious screen clutter purposes, why do you dislike toolbar art?

I explained it better when I was editing to add in something else. Basically I don't want to see anything on the bottom of my screen other than my chat, my quickslots, my focus, and my xp. It is a product of having used a heavily customized UI in WoW for years and being used to seeing (and not seeing) certain things in a certain configuration. I like my quickslots and my keybinds to be just so, and atm both are as close as I could replicate. It is completely personal preference.

I think that the toolbar art for this skin was well done and I agree that most themes start with an idea for that then branch out, and that the toolbar is usually the "anchor" for the theme. I always try out themes right out of the box, thinking "maybe this time I won't hate the clutter". Then I usually end up making a small toolbar variant (if one wasn't provided) and trying that...but I usually end up scrapping the toolbar art all together and use my invisible one. If I could make the art fit the way I arrange/use my quickslot bars, I'd probably keep it. I may even try to do that myself at some point, since I am better at tweaking and editing than creating in photoshop. I'm getting ideas for it just by talking about it, heh.

OarisJM 03-18-2008 01:18 PM

I tried the beta version yesterday and today, instant use on my hobbit!

I agree with the person a few posts up who said the wood border around the character portrait is a tad plain. I like it, but I wouldn't mind seeing it a smidge fancier.

I absolutely adore the bottom art, in all of its incarnations (even the very first one you posted a pic of, it's changed a lot!) I would prefer a bottom bar that did not have the options and bag buttons (just trimmed down to the art around the combat toggle and buttons) but I remember you said you weren't planning on making one like that, so I'll deal.

The backpack backgrounds seem very light, but not unusably so.

Overall, this is so well done that calling it a beta seems needlessly humble. Beautiful, beautiful work. :D

Wicked Mouse 03-18-2008 01:58 PM

Thanks for the heads up and constructive feedback, guys. :)

- I know that there are huge fans of minimalistic toolbars. But as I was still discovering the art of UI skinning for LOTRO just yet, I didn't want to dive into repositioning too. Getting all the art work done was "hard" enough for me as it was/is =)

- I'll look into something more 'special' for the player vitals, making it stand out from the normal mobs.

- Copper coin 'glitch'. Well spotted! :) Before 'launch' I corrected the gold and solved coins already. But guess copper had one too :) Will sort it out.

The Scyphozoa 03-18-2008 05:52 PM

Actually... I kind of think that the player vitals level number looked better with the wood frame than the ribbon. But everyone else seems to like the ribbon, so do what you want.

Wicked Mouse 03-22-2008 08:50 PM

For those that do not pay attention enough on the download section: I've updated the skin :)

OarisJM 03-23-2008 11:10 AM

Loving the new border around the character portrait, that scrollwork is just what it needed. ;)

/agreed ! Nice work, WM! I have no doubt that there are many happy hobbits (and hobbit wannabes!) running about with your skin enabled. :D

Hopefully they will take the effort to register here to rate it and mark it as favourite :D

The Scyphozoa 03-23-2008 05:55 PM

You can actually download things here without registering?

skorpion352 03-25-2008 07:25 AM

i love the ui sj=kin, but cant get it to work, all i get when i download it is a single file unlike all the others i have got which can with a zipped folder full of files. any ideas?

Wicked Mouse 03-25-2008 08:09 AM

I used RAR, to zip it. Just unpack the folder and put it in its place :)

Which is precisely why we ask authors to use .zip for their uploads, not .rar or .7z or .tar or or or. Most users don't have programs to deal with those, whereas .zip is pretty well known by everyone and is an integral part of many Windows builds these days.

Wicked Mouse 03-25-2008 12:34 PM

That's the first thing I turn off when I (re)install windows :D Grrbl.. zippers :p

[EN RP] Laurelin, which is an EU server :)

The skin is updated and in ZIP archive now :)

Wicked Mouse 03-29-2008 05:57 PM

Okay guys and girls.. the mini main bar is here:

Let me know what you think. Hopefully it is about what you guys wanted :) You can download it with the newest update (0.98b).

OarisJM 03-30-2008 11:25 AM

Wow! I was not expecting a whole new art for the minibar! Nor your clever way of keeping all the buttons tucked away under the eaves. It's beautiful, thank you so much for doing that!

The Scyphozoa 03-30-2008 01:19 PM

Hey, how did you do that without having to give us instructions for setting our x and y values based on our screen resolution (like ROTR)? Or was that just because he shrank the XP bar?

Donno.. I set the X and Y position for 1600x1200. Nothing else. Well of course I moved those buttons.

The Scyphozoa 03-30-2008 06:44 PM

Actually what I'm talking about is ToolbarField on line 15 of the small toolbar XML. With ROTR, you need to set it to (Xres-612)/2 and Yres-85, and I'm wondering if that's because Supermax also shrank the XP bar. Also, ROTR's XMl file has a

Detach="1"

in the ToolbarField line.

Brode 03-30-2008 09:11 PM

Quote:

Detach is a special keyword that's only used by the toolbar at this time!
It removes the attachment information from the element so that it appears
where you've placed it. Many of the UIs have attachments that position
items within the panel to make them look right. Arbitrarily changing the
"Detach" keyword may have strange or undesirable consequences. "Detach"
can either be "1" or "0". If there is no Detach="1" specified with the
element, the default is Detach=0.

Wicked Mouse 03-30-2008 09:12 PM

I can't help you there, The Scyphozoa, because I only used the code from Turbine, except of course the ID-tag bug. :) After that I repositioned and resized the system and bag buttons and positioned the main bar according to my 1600x1200 screen resolution :) Haven't really done anything else :)

I added a comment in the XML which points out the position. So if there would be any positioning issues. I can direct people there :)

Problem with 0.98 beta

I do not know exactly which thread is the "official" one to post observations on, but I figured the thread that the actual file is connected to might be. Anyway, I posted a problem I have with the latest beta version while running it in 1280x1024 resolution (if that matters) on the other thread here...

http://www.lotrointerface.com/downlo...id=186#cmnt859

Wicked Mouse 03-31-2008 03:33 PM

People tend to post here too, so I just do too, but I keep an eye on the download section too :) I replied on you there.

The Scyphozoa 04-09-2008 09:55 PM

WHAT the....?? When was it moved to complete sets?

Wicked Mouse 04-10-2008 10:32 AM

When it turned to version 1.0, why? You got a problem with that? :)

The Scyphozoa 04-10-2008 06:02 PM

No, but nobody told me. Did everyone else who ever posted in this thread get a PM but me??

Wicked Mouse 04-11-2008 07:55 AM

When you put the download as favourite, and set the setting to let it notify you of any changes you will get an email telling so :)
I posted in here for any beta changes =) This is originally a beta thread :p So I didn't reply in here, after I moved it out of 'beta status' and added just a few housing settings graphics :)

Shireling 05-28-2012 10:45 AM

Wicked Mouse,

I downloaded your skin yesterday. My very first! It's WONDERFUL. Thank you very much for putting the time into it! It's great to have a skin that reflects your character!

When I join fellowships, sometimes my allies' vitals don't display properly. They appear as a big blue box crisscrossed with white lines. It does not seem to be consistent for certain players or classes... It just seems to randomly happen! Do you know how I can fix this?

Thanks again!
Shireling

Adra 05-28-2012 05:33 PM

@ Shireling

The 4 years fellowship anniversary file is missing in the v1.15 archive.
Anyway, you should leave your comment on the right page ^^ (this thread was inactive since 2008 :p )

-> http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info186-DelvingHills.html

If you know how to convert .png files into .tga, here is a lilttle patch for you (save the pictures on your hard drive then convert it into TGA) :

(to convert then rename in player_vitals_backdrop_mini_4_years.tga then copy in ..\delving hills\vitals\fellowship\ )

(to convert then rename in letterbox_bottom.tga and then copy (overwrite) in ..\delving hills\mainbar\ )

Wicked Mouse 05-29-2012 01:21 PM

Heh thanks Adra. :) I'm working on fixing the main bar, I'll release it soon, together with the 4-year anniversary vitals for fellowship members :) Amongst a few other tweaks.

Shireling 05-30-2012 04:22 PM

Thank you very much, Adra! That fixed it.

I apologize for posting in the wrong forum. I'm new to this site, so I suppose I'm still learning my way around. :D
