Stock Auction Panel Volume 3 Book 2 (1024×768)

Description
(2010-12-10) I updated the online description and all
screenshots for Larger Auction Panel v1.5.1. I also included
the URL for the new Larger Auction Panel v2 (Wider) version,
which is designed for players running the game on displays
LARGER than 1024×768 resolution.
- No "download" files were uploaded for this version.

(2010-11-29) LargerAuctionPanel v1.5.1 appears to be
unaffected by changes and works (100%) as intended with
Lord of the Rings Online: Volume 3 Book 2 (November 2010
Update). No changes were necessary to the current version
of this custom skin, and nothing was uploaded.

(Updated for Lord of the Rings Online: Volume 3 Book 2)

Larger Auction Panel is a reconfiguration of the stock Auction
Panel UI layout, intended to make more efficient use of the
visible display area at 1024×768 (and higher resolutions).
Moving and resizing almost every button, box, label, and
dropdown menu has effectively doubled the viewable area and
number of items visible on all three tabs of the Auction Panel.
This should make browsing and posting auctions easier while
leaving enough space to open and view the contents of all five
inventory bags.

Major changes in Larger Auction Panel v1:
Six items are now visible on the Auctions tab.
- (up from three [default ui])
Six items are now visible on the Bids tab.
- (up from four [default ui])
Seven items are now visible on the Posted tab.
- (up from three [default ui])
• The contents of all five inventory bags can be viewed
simultaneously at 1024×768 (and higher resolutions)
while accessing the auction house interface.

For players using resolutions LARGER than 1024×768, check out
Larger Auction Panel v2 (Wider) at the URL provided below.

#1) Background Image Issue - RESOLVED!
Guhrasoh provided a clear, concise, and simple fix for the background image issue. Simply open the SkinDefinition.xml file and insert the line of code at line 24. Also, change line 10 to read as FileName="larger_auction_background.tga" within the <Mapping> tags. Save the file and reload the game. The image now displays correctly within the Larger Auction Panel UI.
- Thank you Guhrasoh!

#2) Post Tab Free-To-Play "Buy Now" (*Unlock*) button issue - RESOLVED!
Frosty was kind enough to upload a new V3B2 art asset pack from which I extrapolated the new "Buy Now" (*Unlock*) button name pattern. I was able to use the new name information to move the new "Buy Now" (*Unlock*) button on the Post tab to a non-obtrusive location (under the posted auctions Count label) of Larger Auction Panel.
- Thank you Frosty!

Clarification: Free-to-Play (aka *F2P*) players view a new "Unlock" button on the Post tab when F2P players have posted the maximum number of active auctions available for that character. It is my understanding that (as of the release of Volume 3 Book 2) current subscribers (aka *VIP* players) are unaffected, while F2P *Premium* players (former subscribers and players who have purchased LotRO Turbine Points) start with five auctions, and F2P *Free* players (never paid a dime to Turbine for LotRO) are unable to post auctions initially. The new "Buy Now" (*Unlock*) button allows all flavors of F2P players to purchase a bundle of five additional auction slots (up to 30 slots maximum).

LargerAuctionPanel v1.5.1 works (100%) with Volume 3 Book 2

Frosty was kind enough to upload a new LotRO Volume 3 Book 2 UI art assets pack (found here).

A related forum thread (by daimon) with additional explanation of changes in the new art assets pack can be found here.

I was able to use the information found above to adjust the new *Unlock* button location. At the same time, I took the opportunity to adjust the size and postion of the "Post Auction" button on the Post tab to better align with the new post count and *Unlock* button positions.

LargerAuctionPanel v1.5.1 appears to be fully functional and working (100%) as intended with Lord of the Rings Online: Volume 3 Book 2 (Free-to-Play).

LargerAuctionPanel v1.5.0 works (99%) with Volume 3 Book 2

There were two minor changes (that I noticed) to the auction house interface in Volume 3 Book 2. Both of these changes only affect Free-to-Play players.

The minor one (an expanded post count label) was fixed in this update. The other change is the new Unlock button which only appears when F2P players have posted the maximum number of active auctions available for that character (EDIT: see "Clarification" note under Known Issue #2) in the auction house.

I need to figure out the new Element ID information (specifically the name) of the fancy new Unlock button to fix this issue (Known Issue #2), which I am hoping to get from the new SkinDictionary.txt file once Turbine finally releases the new art asset pack for LotRO Volume 3 Book 2 (EDIT: found here).

The fix for the second change could be expedited if a knowledgeable developer or community member (Frosty) could link the new art asset pack or provide the Element ID information (specifically name) of the Unlock button.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I also removed all previously archived versions of this addon prior to v1.5.0 after an upload SNAFU and a FUBAR'd version number, but the net result remains the same. Older versions of this addon are no longer needed, so I simply decided to remove the older archived versions to eliminate any confusion.

Thrashfinger, you are the MAN! (Assuming you're a man.) Thank you so much. I merged a bunch of different expanded panels and other goodies into my favorite UI skin. It was actually pretty easy but that's because you explained it very well. It's greatly appreciated.

I'd love to see all panel sizes increased. I still have the normal size mail window, character panel, legendary item window, quest panel, traits panel, and social panel. But an expanded crafting panel, auction house, and skirmish join window were excellent starts.

Lua in LotRO and LargerAuctionPanel

"Would it be possible to convert the LargerAuctionPanel to a lua ?"
- Mandros

As of Volume 3 Book 2 (aka, Free-to-Play release) Lua in LotRO is in its infancy. Currently, Lua in LotRO is something of a fully functional proof-of-concept with limited (and deliberately restricted) functionality - having specific bells and minimal whistles - but showing much promise and potential. Once more robust API doodads, widgets, whatnots, or whatchamacallits are made available from the developers, then it might be possible (depending on available functionality) to convert this custom skin to a Lua-flavored addon. However, (from my understanding of Lua in LotRO) barring some extreme paradigm shift involving Turbine porting the entire LotRO interface to Lua and requiring all existing xml-based custom skins to be rewritten, rewriting LargerAuctionPanel in Lua would be tantamount to reinventing the wheel to make a more "solid disc or circular rim joined to a hub by radial or tangential spokes, that is mounted on a shaft about which it can turn, as in vehicles and machines".

p.s. - I'm just being goofy with the long-winded reply.

Rewriting LargerAuctionPanel in Lua is currently not possible, however might be an option (hopefully unnecessary and fully-dependent on available functionality) in the future.

Rudimentary instructions on how to integrate (merge) custom skins

Rudimentary instructions on how to integrate (merge) custom skins:

Step 1) Create NEW addon folder:
• Create a NEW folder within the folder structure (location) where your custom skins are installed.
- (ie, for WindowsXP users something like under My Documents then "\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\")
- (ie, for Windows Vista and 7 users - I do not know for sure - something like under the user's profile directory then "\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\").
• Also (and very important) give the folder a unique name that will make sense to you.
- (ie, "MyAddon", "MyAuctionCraftMail", etc.)
• The NEW folder structure should look like My Documents or user's profile folder then "\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\MyAddon\".
• This name will appear in the "Options" panel, found under "UI Settings" button, "Misc" section, "Current User Skin" dropdown menu, which is where you will select the custom skin to be displayed.

Step 2) Copy or move all art assets (note that some addons do not modify art assets):
• Open the folders containing the two (or more) custom skins you want to integrate (or merge).
• Make sure any modified art assets (ie, custom background images, button icons, etc.) have unique names so they do not conflict and overwrite each other when you combine the resources of both addons (custom skins) into one folder.
• If you find identical names for resources (ie, "background.tga") then append the filenames with a prefix identifying the addon the resource is related to (ie, "LAP_background.tga" for LargerAuctionPanel) before copying or moving them.
• Move or copy all art assets from the SOURCE addons folders to the NEW addon folder created above.

Step 3) Create a single "SkinDefinition.xml" file:
• Open your text editor.
- (ie, EditPlus, EditPad Lite, UltraEdit, your favorite text editor, etc.)
• Create a NEW xml file.
• Save and name the NEW xml file as "SkinDefinition.xml" (making sure to include the xml extension) in the NEW addon folder location created above.
• Make sure the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" is named EXACTLY "SkinDefinition.xml" and NOT "SkinDefinition.xml.txt" by your text editor (update file name if necessary).
• Add Line 1:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
• Add Line 2:
Code:
<opt>
• Add Line 3 (using your own addon name from Step 1, of course):
Code:
<SkinName Name="MyAddon"></SkinName>
• Add Line 4:
Code:
</opt>
• Save the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file.

Step 4) Integrate code from SOURCE "SkinDefinition.xml" files:

Step 4.1) Copy/Paste "<Mapping>" code:
• Open the "SkinDefinition.xml" file from the SOURCE addon using your text editor.
• Search for lines containing any "<Mapping>" tags (similar to the following):
Code:
<Mapping ArtAssetID="Auction_Base_BG" FileName="larger_auction_background.tga"></Mapping>
• If found, copy/move all of the <Mapping> tag lines from the SOURCE file, and paste them ABOVE the last line in the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file.
• Note that the last line in the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file should be:
Code:
</opt>
• Note that there should be one <Mapping> line for each custom art asset found in Step 2 above.
• If any art assets were renamed in Step 2 above, then carefully rename any "FileName"(s) in the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file to be consistent with the exact filenames used in Step 2 above.
• SAVE the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file. (NOT THE SOURCE FILE!)
• Repeat Step 4.1 for all addons (custom skins) being integrated (merged), then continue to Step 4.2 below.

Step 4.2) Review "<Mapping>" code:
• Review all of the "<Mapping>" lines in the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file for duplicate "ArtAssetID" names.
• If any "<Mapping>" lines refer to the same "ArtAssetID" name then you will encounter conflicts between the custom skins you are trying to integrate (ie, attempting to modify the same image), and your merged custom skin will likely not display and/or even load correctly.

Step 4.3) Copy/Paste "<PanelFile>" code:
• Search for lines containing any "<PanelFile>" tags (similar to the following):
Code:
<PanelFile ID="ID_UISkin_Auction_MainField">
• Copy/move the code chunk (all of the code lines) including the tag lines from the "<PanelFile ID="...">" to the "</PanelFile>" tag lines from the SOURCE file, and paste them ABOVE the last line in the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file.
• Note that there may be more than one <PanelFile ID="..."> to </PanelFile> code chunk for each custom skin being integrated.
- (ie, LargerAuctionPanel modifies the main panel and two templates.)
• Note that the last line in the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file should be:
Code:
</opt>
• Note that there should be only ONE "</opt>" line at the bottom of the "SkinDefinition.xml" file.
• SAVE the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file. (NOT THE SOURCE FILE!)
• Repeat Step 4.3 for all addons (custom skins) being integrated (merged), then continue to Step 4.4 below.

Step 4.4) Review "<PanelFile>" code:
• Review all of the "<PanelFile>" lines in the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file for duplicate "PanelFile ID" names.
• If any "<PanelFile ID="...">" lines refer to the same "PanelFile ID" name then you will encounter conflicts between the custom skins you are trying to integrate (ie, attempting to modify the same panel), and your merged custom skin will likely not display and/or even load correctly.

Step 5) SAVE and close the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" file.
• Make sure the NEW "SkinDefinition.xml" is named EXACTLY "SkinDefinition.xml" and NOT "SkinDefinition.xml.txt" by your text editor (update file name if necessary).

Step 6) Close and DO NOT SAVE the SOURCE "SkinDefinition.xml" files.

Step 7) Run the game.

* Your mileage may vary, but probably won't.

Can anyone explain how to get this to work with another UI? I use Divine GE cause I like the mainbar on the bottom right of the screen. It gives me more room to zoom in on my toon and I have less clutter on screen. I assume I just copy the main body of the skindef.xml somewhere in the skindef.xml of my main UI but I don't know where it goes. I assume there is already a default auction hall section in the main skindef.xml. Any help would be appreciate. The larger panel is great for me cause I play on a big screen TV so text/panel size is always an issue. Thank you.

It may be an in game issue. I am in a kinship, but I'm not 100% sure about what restrictions there are on kinships based on rank for posting or looking at kinship only auctions.

"Anyone still updating this one? I noticed an issue today where I cannot click the "Kinship Only" checkbok on the panel to check for Kin auctions."
- Marll

I am currently unable to test this feature and functionality. I do not have a character in a kinship and as a result I am unable to select the "Kinship Only" checkbox as well. Could this be a related cause/effect of the issue you experienced?

LargerAuctionPanel v1.3 works with Volume 3 Book 2

With no custom skins enabled, the Volume 3 Book 2 stock auction house interface appears to be the same as the Volume 3 Book 1 stock auction house interface.

I uploaded an updated version based on code from Volume 3 Book 1 using the information provided by Guhrasoh in June 2010. The LargerAuctionPanel v1.3 version appears to work as intended with Volume 3 Book 2.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues with the newest version of this custom skin.

A footnote on my delinquency and AFK since May 2010: LotRO w/MoM was a gift to me, and the 30 days of free game time expired (for me) the day I posted v1.2 in May 2010. Real life prevented me from accessing the game and testing the fix until the Head Start phase of the Free-to-Play release.
