Overlays sound like a perfectly good solution to what you are looking for. I'd be interested in seeing what you develop.

I have the filter set to show all tiers. It will show me the tier 7 scholar nodes in Dunland (just south of Enedwaith), but none of the tier 6 scholar nodes in Enedwaith itself. It shows ore and wood nodes just fine.

The nodes are apparently getting added, by the way, because if I attempt to add a node twice, I'm told the 2nd time that it was already on the map. They just aren't being displayed.

Also, if I use the Search function, I can see a list of nodes that I've added (Sage's Lockboxes), and if I click one of the nodes in that list, it highlights that location. There's just no icon displayed there.

here you can see the Angmar Note. But there are many many false Notes over the whole World. I tried the reload defaults one Time before i deleted the "MM_MapAnnotations_*.plugindata" and once after i deleted them. After a reload of the Addon the Data apear as before with its false state. For now because of for me useless Data i deleted the "MM_MapAnnotations_*.plugindata" and reloaded the Addon without reload defaults so i can use it as clean Map for my own Notes. But missing now some things just like jumpicons to jump from one to another neighbor map.
But better then have near 90 percent on wrong places or with wrong decriptions. Sorry. PS: No i don't edited things somewhere.

What i mean is when you leftklick on an Note. The Notes itself seem to be at Positions where what is but if i leftklick them then a window apear just like that in the pic in this reply and inside this there are irritated Descriptions. On normal when í just mouseover an icon than just the Pos data is dísplayed. What i miss is when i leftklick it it shows me that theres a Minstrel Teacher or what ever else on this Place. If its a NPC then a Note with Name and what he do. Vendor. Questgiver. And so on not just xx.x S xx.x W. Or when i Leftklick ANGMAR. Because with an icon where Mouseover brings the Pos and Leftklick the Description Angmar on the Galtrev Map i don't know what you mean that its on this Place.

Heres some more Screenshots to see the Problem

Hmmm. That definately is not correct. Especially since Stangard is in region 2 and Angmar is in region 1 (different base coordinates). Stangard and Angmar maps both show only the correct notes for each on my system. Could you provide a link to a screenshot as well as at least one specific object with it's name and location (name and location that show when moused over is sufficient). Did you try editing the data files in the past, perhaps in an attempt to add your own German translations? There doesn't seem to be any way that this could occur through the normal update mechanism, especially given the different coordinate systems (even if the data for Angmar was in the Stangard file, the points would be off screen and would not show). You can also try deleting all of the files named like "MM_MapAnnotations_*.plugindata" where * is a mapID number in the "My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\username\AllServers" folder and then reload the default data (see below). Do NOT delete any other files in that folder as they contain custom data and settings for many plugins, not just MoorMap.

Have you tried forcing a reload of the default data? Right click on the map and click "Add Annotation". Then on the Annotation Maintenance window, click "Reload Defaults". If the problem is corrupt default annotations this will fix it. If the problem is one or more corrupted plugindata files then you can try sending the plugindata files to me to be cleaned and corrected (I can PM you an email address but depending on the amount and type of corruption there is no guarantee that I can fix them).

While checking the default data for Stangard, I did notice one bug, the map background was incorrectly saved with images of the default icons showing so some of the default icons will show with a slightly offset double image. This will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks for the feedback. As you noted, it is hard to update the notes for more than one language. However, all of the locations and English labels should be correct. If you are seeing objects/NPCs in multiple locations they are most likely subject to Phasing which means they can change location as you interact with them (in this case, some of their locations may not be shown) - there is currently no way to detect the correct location for phased objects/npcs. If you are seeing things on the map that have been changed due to updates (some areas get revamped periodically, the latest being Moria, and require changes to the default data) please post the specific location/object/npc and it's correct location/description (if known) and I will get them updated.

As to allowing users to modify the default data, that is not going to happen since it causes way too many issues with providing updates. When I reprocess an area that has been revamped by Turbine I often regather the default data from scratch since many of the defaults are subject to change by Turbine, some objects get renamed/moved, some get deleted and others get added . Trying to match up and track which objects already existed and might have been modified by the user and then accurately merging that with new values would lead to far to many problems and then I would have users complaining about their changes being wiped out by updates. I have considered adding a flag to display/hide ALL default annotations but there are other issues that are higher priority so it will be quite a while before that makes it onto the ToDo list.

At some point I do intend to get back to providing French and German translations, I just don't have any idea of when that might be. Given the state of the Turbine Lua implementation, and the amount of time I have available, it will probably not happen this year and possibly not next year.

Interesting. Were you possibly running ver 1.14 (or lower) previously and had not updated in a long while? Did you delete the GaranStuff or MoorMap folders between updates? Either one of those may have prevented the automatic update of the default data including map and image references. If so, there are two ways to fix this, you can either create dummy placeholder images for the POI images or you can download, install and run ver 1.15 to fix the image reference then download, install and run the latest version (1.19). Since there may be more than one reference it might be simplest to just do the download/install/update method.

If you choose to simply create place holder images, you can go to the "..plugins/GaranStuff/MoorMap/Resources" folder and copy three files:
vendor.tga to poi.tga
vender_hover.tga to poi_hover.tga
vendor_icon.tga to poi_icon.tga
NOTE, copy the files, don't just rename them as the originals are needed.
when you reload the plugin, it should automatically re-process the default data which will replace the references with the correct references and you can either delete the placeholders or just ignore them.

Please let me know if this resolves the problem (I'll fix this so that the updater can run without this error next release)

If after the plugin loads you do not see the new maps and all your POI annotations look like vendors then you will have to force a manual update of the default data. This is fairly simple, just right click on the plugin map, select "Add Annotation", then in the Annotation Maintenance window click the "Reload Defaults" button at the bottom. After the defaults are reloaded, the map should refresh and you should be all set.

I found where I went wrong. I removed the version that I was previously using(I think was either 1.15 or 1.16). So after re installing the old version I then extracted 1.19 into the same folder, and replaced the needed files with the new one's. So now It works fine on all characters.

thanks, for the great plugin

Update: Hey Garan,

thanx for the tip.
Everything worked...

Maybe you could add a little hint in your description that dragging the flag is a little bit tricky.

Cheers

The annotation icon is a bit tricky since it's a quickslot so only the top edge is available for dragging while holding Ctrl. I'm still looking into ways to make this less of an issue. I would recommend trying to grab just the top edge of the icon rather than editing the settings file.

The settings for the icons are in MoorMapSettings.plugindata in the "My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\username\AllServers" folder. The settings for the flag are ["quickWindowTopPercent"] and ["quickWindowLeftPercent"]. As the label implies, they are expressed as a percentage of your display height and width (so that changes in resolution don't break the plugin). Theoretically, you can use either a comma or period as a decimal character and the plugin should automatically force it to the correct character for your client when loading, but to be safe, you should use whatever character is in the existing setting.
