Overview
Lotropad is a simple notepad plugin which you can use to quickly write down some notes without exiting the game. It can be used for, for example, cutting and pasting text to and from chat windows and storing reference information such as instance tactics or LOTRO Store shopping lists .
Big thanks to Vevenalia for the French translation!
Features
- 10 note pages, each of which can be named
- Image notes
- Movable and resizable window
- Adjustable font size, window opacity, and visibility on load
- Movable button for toggling Lotropad window
- NEW: Mini mode, right-click the button to switch between normal and mini mode
Installation
- Unzip the plugin to your 'Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins' folder
How to use
- To load the plugin type /plugins load lotropad.
- You can show and hide Lotropad window by clicking the Lotropad icon (visible by default). Button can be moved by dragging it. Position of the button is saved when clicking 'save all'.
- Right-click the Lotropad icon to switch between normal and mini mode. In the mini mode, everything else is hidden except the text of the note.
- Click and drag from the bottom right corner of the window to resize it.
- Click and drag the title bar to move the window.
- To save your notes click Save all, this will save the contents of all your notes. The write procedure is delayed so it might take a moment to be executed. Notes are currently saved per account which means that all of your characters on all servers can access them. Note that pressing Set will only set the title and text for the current note. However, this is also done automatically as you click through your notes.
- Click settings to adjust the font size (main text field only), window opacity, and window visibility on load.
- You can set a background, such as a map or tactics diagram, for a note. First copy the image (jpg or tga only) to images folder under the Lotropad plugin folder. Then click Img and type the image filename to the text field. Clicking Set image sets the image as the new background and Clear image removes the background image.
- Answers to commonly asked questions can be found here
Command line options
- /lotropad show - shows the Lotropad window
- /lotropad hide - hides the Lotropad window
- /lotropad toggle - toggles the Lotropad window
- /lotropad - lists command line options
Known issues
- When the whole note does not fit the window, the position of the scroll bar always moves to the end when the note is opened.
- The plugin might still have problems with German or French clients
- Background images might not be visible with some skins. This depends on how the alpha channel is set in ArtAssetID "black_translucent" image.

Hi, have to say I'm not sure what could be the problem. I just tested it and didn't see this. Although, I only tried with the English client so far.

It sounds as if the user installed Lotropad but never set it to load, thus the unknown commands.
@lotrofamily,
To set plugins to load automatically, you can use the plugin manager (system menu->System->Plugin Manager or "/plugins manager" chat command). Select the plugin you wish to load and then on the bottom right, select the characters for which you want the plugin to automatically load.
If the plugin still does not load, make sure you have the 'error' channel enabled in your chat window (right click a chat tab and select Filters, and make sure "Error" is checked) and watch for any error messages. If an error is shown, copy and post the entire error message here.

First, let me say thank you, for this and all of the terrific plugins you've shared with us! You've done some really amazing things!
Your text here reads:
"Click settings to adjust the font size (main text field only), window opacity, and window visibility on load."
But there is no setting to have the pad visible/invisible on load. It's a minor inconvenience, but I thought it would be worth mentioning here.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. There should be an option called "show window on load" which just means if it should start with the main lotropad window open, or just the icon (which you can click to open it). Of course, it could be there's some bug with it.

Re: Re: Plugin Options
First, thanks for the kind feedback. Regarding this question.. I don't think bold or italic are possible as such, but similar effect could be accomplished by using different color or font style. However, it would be quite a big feature since it requires adding support for some kind of text markup language, such as bbcode. Then you would also need separate edit and view modes for the notes. I suppose bullets and checkboxes could be possible as well, but they are more complex of course.
So to be short: It's definitely a good suggestion, but a big feature and I'm not sure if I'm up to it really at the moment as I don't actively play the game currently.

Understood, thanks

Thank You
This is super handy and just what I was looking for. I wish more games of this nature had this built into the UI.

Hi,
You could go to your plugin data folder and find data file for Lotropad. It should be at:
<windows documents folder>\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\<lotro user name>\AllServers\LotropadData.plugindata
First make a copy of this file to a safe place so that you can copy it back in case something goes wrong.
Then you can open the file in the location above in a text editor (Notepad++ recommended, windows Notepad might butcher it). Then locate a lines with
["ImageFile"] = "<some value here>"
and look for suspicious data here that cannot be loaded as images or the image is not present. Then change that value to be empty like this:
["ImageFile"] = ""
Then save the file and hopefully Lotropad will load up next time.

so if I understand correctly in the old version max. the number of notes was broken down so that for each note a separate display was created so if I wanted to create another note I had to add the whole string of displays for each note separately while the whole string of displays was in one block in one place.
and in the new version it is shown in two places, the display of the note icons is in one place (lines 256-261) but max. allowed number of notes is in another place (lines 19-25)
do I understand this correctly?
|
Yes, I realized that in the old version, adding notes was troublesome. So I made this modification with which you can change amount of notes on just one line (just 21).

thank you for the explanation, but I still don't see in your modified version of LotropadWindow max. the number of notes, which in the old version is clearly listed, so they are permanently listed what was convenient for me in case I need to create additional slots for notes (notes 20+)
|
Oh right, the number of notes on that modified version is on a variable called NoteCount, and it's set to 20 on line 21. Does this help you? You should be able to set this to anything (within reason and screen space) you want just by adjusting this line.
