A new bug?

An interesting happening.

I updated CombatAnalysis earlier this evening -- apparently successfully.

I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and did it again... got a weird error and the entry disappeared from the "installed Plugins" list. (but the plugin itself was still in the Plugins folder.)

Scan doesn't pick it up again.

But when I go to add new plugins and check Conbat analysis, then add; It is reinstalled and re-appeares in the installed list.

The problem is I have no idea what that first error was and subsequent updates of Combat Analysis all worked normally.

Really weird.

In the folder I keep the down loads in, I find two Combat analysis files:

1356139710-CombatAnalysisZip.zip time stamp matches my first upgrade attempt.
and
CombatAnalysisZip.zip with a created stamp of my second attempt but a modified time stamp of 10 minutes later. (When I did the update a third time.)

Thanks Magill. Gotta love a company that if you don't go through them and their signing process, will tell people that your app is corrupt and needs trashed. Brilliant.

Got plugins to work manually.

Responding to Magill:

Wow, I thank you for taking the time to respond with a lot of information. And I finally found the ~/Library/Application Support/com.turbine.lotroclient/ folder.

I am certainly not the most computer savvy, but once i found the directory, I was able through trial and error to figure out where to put a plugin manually that would actually show up in the Lotro "Manage Plugins" section and actually work.
I had to create a Plugins folder in the above stated directory (so i created ~/Library/Application Support/com.turbine.lotroclient/Plugins), place the unzipped plugin in it and then it worked! I placed the directory you mentioned in the compendium and it worked as well.

Thank you,

Also thank you for your response in http://www.lotrointerface.com/forums...ead.php?t=1951

Re: MAC Client: Problems in loading plugins with the compendium.

Quote:
Hello,

I hope i am posting this in the right forum. I am currently using the "native" MAC OS X Client (beta) download from Turbine for playing LotRo (which i dowloaded last week and works great). My Computer is running OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).

I would love to run some plugins and was thrilled to see that you have a Mac version of your LotroInterface Compendium, i downloaded it, installed it no problem. I used your default settings for the "Configuration" Tab where it set the
-Plugin Install Path- to /Users/(me)/Plugins
and it set the
-Plugin Downloads- to /tmp

I used the interface and "added" two plugins. It said everything installed fine, I saw the plugin folders appear where they should be in the /Users/(me)/Plugins but could not find the /tmp folder. I received no errors up to this point.

I then opened up Lotro and got to the Character screen, clicked on "managed plugins" and none of the plugins appear. I logged into a character, and in the chat interface typed /plugins load MinstrelBuffs (just one of the plugins i wanted to use) and it said "Unable to load MinstrelBuffs" I tried it on the other plugin and got the same "unable" message.

At this point I am stuck as to what i need to do to make this work.
1) Did i miss a step somewhere in the middle? If so could you tell me what to do?
2) Is there a different manual way to do it? In mountain lion I installed the Mac client to the "Applications" folder, but when i click on the "Lord of the Rings Online" i cannot see or have access to the individual sub-files through the "Finder" interface on OS X 10.8.2.

Thank you for your time.
I have not tried the mac client yet.. but according to the post below by magill, the mac version of the client stores it's plugin in a different location than the Crossover/Wine route did in past. You might try manually setting the path on the configuration tab to the new folder location and seeing if that works.

Java SE6 Runtime not in Mountain Lion

I'm not certain if this was a recent change by Apple or has been true for some time.

I recently had my iMac in for an Apple Disk recall (bad batch of Seagate Drives apparently), and got it back with a "virgin" Mountain Lion install. (10.6.8).

It did NOT have the Java runtime installed. Takes 2 minutes to download and install it, but it wasn't there.

I have a vague remembrance that Apple pulled Java 6 in one of their recent updates, but they might have just upgraded to Java 7.

BTW Sapience announced that Beta for Update 9 should begin next week.

Re: Update needed for new Native Mac Client

Quote:
The current iteration of the Native Mac Client (released 1 November) stores the Plugins (and other stuff) in "Apple's place." ....

~/Library/Application Suport/com.turbine.lotroclient/

see: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Mac_Client for current information.

That location is "the Apple Way" for such things... except that ~/Library is now "hidden" (since Lion), which makes it less than accessible.

So, will Turbine change it over to ~/Documents to be consistent with the Windows Version... who knows?
thanks for the heads up. I can always try to make the app check to see if that folder exists first before defaulting to the current location.

An interesting bug

As opposed to typing the name of the directory (as my earlier report), If you "Browse" to a "non-existant" directory for the Downloads, It does NOT create that folder.

Creating the folder, and things work as expected.

Under configuration -- Browse to a directory and then type in a sub-directory (folder.)

Mountain Lion information

I'm now running Mountain Lion, and somehow managed to delete my previous copy of LPC - Java.

First I simply re-unzipped the previously downloaded file I had on disk. Claimed the app was dammaged. (see message below).

So I downloaded a fresh copy by clicking on the name on the top of the page.

It download "plugincompendium-1.1-java.zip

This unzips with no problem as expected.

However, on launch, a Gatekeeper window pops-up:

Quote:
"Plugin Compendium.app" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash."
Setting Gatekeeper to "Always," ... System Preferences/Security & Privacy ... "Allow applications downloaded From:"

I get the "normal" Gatekeeper pop-up...

Quote:
"Plugin Compendium.app" is an applicatoin downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?
Clicking "open" allows the app to launch as expected.

Note: This is the way Gatekeeper is cureently behaving. Gatekeeper does have bugs. Expect changes in behavior with OSX 10.8 updates.

Note also: This permissions issue "should" only occur once, on first launch.

One small request

Love the program overall, thank you for the effort and time. Would it be possible to add the description information panel to the bottom of the "Installed Plugins" tab, the way it shows up in the "Add New Plugins" tab?
