Skins Collection

Latest update(s) :

Version 35.1 - May 05 2023

BGM skins : Fixed the horse run progress bar.

Grey wizard wow themes :

- In opponent vital frame code I disabled the orange animation portrait overlay on major opponents in order to display properly the custom portraits.
The bad point is some bosses wear only a default portrait (like a frog in the Shire) under the orange animated overly and that cannot be changed by skins, nevertheless elite, scion and other will show a nicer portrait.
- I reworked the radar.

Grey wizard Gondor theme : I put the correct autoattack button pictures.

Grey wizard - Introducing a second light toolbar WoW inspired theme.

Full version history available HERE

Here are other nice eye candies you should give a try :

- W0 theme (skin)

- Samooryesord's Load Screens (copy and overwrite its JPG files into installation folder of The Lord of the Rings Online\raw\your language\logo then go to the properties of the logo folder and select "read only".)

Addons : (click the pictures to access their own download page)Other skin I maintain :

Short introduction :

This is a pack of alternate user interfaces skins = themes.

My goal trough this pack is to revive, gather, update and enhance the most famous Lotro skins (or parts of a skin) originally created and maintained by numerous authors and contributors, since most of the original releases are abandoned and highly outdated.

During the reviving process I freely revisited the themes to offer the LOTRO community a new experience of these great artworks by applying my own touch.

A few themes and many additions or tweaks were made by me, often based on elements of highly outdated abandoned skins and some others found here and there on internet. ( I'm a terrible drawer )

In this pack you will find 14 different themes with variants (it can be the toolbar or color or some pictures), offering a total of 47 sub-themes !

All the themes included in this pack share the same panel customizations except custom toolbars.

Last but not least, the JRR skin collection is entirely modular :
Every skin folder can be considered as an addon and is independent from the other ones. This means each main skin folder can be deleted from the pack or modified without affecting the other skins.
Every skin folder interacts with no other folder than the "JRR CORE" folder. This folder contains the common files for all the JRR skins (this is the only folder which must not be deleted to get all the skins displaying properly).
This makes easy for anyone to freely publish a new skin, a patched or customized edition of a skin, ready to plug in JRR, in addition or as replacement of existing skin(s).

This also means, as a simple user, you can reduce the number of skins embedded in the pack in just a few seconds, by simply deleting any skin folder you don't want to be featured any more !
For this, open the JRR main folder, it is located there : "...Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\JRR Skins collection\"
Inside this "JRR Skins collection" folder, delete any folder corresponding to the skins you want to remove from the pack, and you're done, that's as simple as it
Notice : Just don't remove the folder named "JRR CORE".

Requirements :

A minimal resolution of 1024 pixels width and 768 pixels height is required, 1440X900 or higher is highly recommended.

If you are below 1024 pixels width and/or 768 pixels height, you can still enjoy the JRR SmallBar add-on by selecting its "_JRR Small_No-Ext" special profile. On it, every panels has Lotro's default size.

(click to enlarge)

Installation steps for Windows operating systems :

- Download the .ZIP file from this page.
- Unpack it your desktop with a right click on from Windows context menu or 7-zip (freeware) or Peazip (freeware) or Winrar or any else unpacking software.
- Browse your hard drive and locate your Window's "Documents" folder (or "My Documents" for older Windows versions).
Usually (but it can be different) the path is C:\Users\*your account name*\Documents\
- Inside your "Documents" folder, look for "The Lord of the Rings Online" folder, and enter in it. (This is the folder where your Lotro screenshots are stored).
- Now enter in "UI" folder, then in "skins" folder. If UI and/or skins folders don't exist yet, create it.
Don't go in "Plugins folder" it is not dedicated to the skins.
- Copy and paste the folder "JRR Skins collection" previously unpacked on your desktop into the SKINS folder.

As example, this is how it looks into my own "SKINS" folder (with JRR addons themes and 2 other great Lotro themes) :

Inside the JRR skins collection folder, it should look like this :

- If your LOTRO client was running during the skins installation process, close it then restart it.

- Open LOTRO option panel, then select "UI settings" tab, scroll it down 2/3 of its height, stop at miscellaneous section, and look for user current skin ("Appearance interface utilisateur" in french).
- Click on "none" to open the drop down select menu and choose one of the themes. (As shown on the picture below)

After you selected a JRR theme, you have to logout (switch to the character selection menu) to apply the new correct parameters. After that you can go back into the game and enjoy all JRR features.
Except " Monsters Lair *short* " and "Delving Hills *Short* ", BGM *short*, Erebor *custom* which both have custom toolbar settings", all the themes featured in the main download share the same panels settings. This means once your character has applied these settings a first time (by logout then login back), you can freely switch between the main download themes and fully enjoy it without having to to perform another logout / login back. (except for the 2 skins mentioned above).

Panels enhancements included in each JRR skin :

- A taller dressing room
- A taller barter panel
- A taller auction Panel
- A taller mail panel
- A taller vendor panel
- A taller crafting panel, with localization fixes
- A taller enemies tracking panel. Displays 20 names at once instead of 8 by default.
- A taller inspect panel.
- A more compact connection Status icon.
- Numerical PVP rank icons
- A (smaller) windowed map. In fact it is displayed at its real size (no more zooming blur)
- Custom Saruman rings (displayed only during Orthanc tower raid fight against Saruman)
- Outfits management panel reorganized icons.
- Less annoying store buttons within various panels

. . . Store buttons removed :
  • Character panel : Equipment tab (enhance) & Appearance tab (buy outfits) buttons
  • Destiny barter
  • Extended Crafting Panel : buy recipes / buy mats / accelerate buttons

My skin naming chart relate to the toolbar as follow :

universal = Uses the default toolbar panel code from lotro. It fits with any screen resolution.
Any theme name featuring this word can easily be used by anyone.

custom Indicates that the toolbar is designed using a custom toolbar panel code.
This unfortunately requires to manually edit its skindefinition.xml file with a text editor in order to fit the user's screen resolution (if it is different from the one used in the file).

Short = actually shortened toolbar using a custom toolbar panel code

Light = an universal toolbar visually shortened by turning invisible the side buttons.

wide = full length toolbar.

utrawide = extra length toolbar.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) and known issues :

- I just installed JRR and selected one of the skins on my character, some panels are displayed in a strange manner, like upside down.
Logout then login back, this is a necessary step to apply the new custom panel settings.
Once you did it, and since you stay on JRR universal toolbar skins, you will be able to switch from a skin to another one without having to logout again.
All the skins included in the main JRR pack are universal toolbar skins, except Delving Hills short, Monsters Lair short, BGM short and Erebor *custom*.

- The 3D portrait from my vital bar zoom or dezoom each time I load a new area.
This is a well known issue since years. It is caused by the player vital panel code used in skins. This bug comes from the lotro client itself, I cannot fix it through the skin code, I can only disable the 3d portrait sizing line of code in the skins to bypass it, like it was the case in JRR skins and E&E panels before I re-enabled it in order to fix the other 3D portrait zooming and de-centering issues introduced by lotro update 33.1. So, whatever I do some people will be unsatisfied until the devs fix some of their game bugs. However, while waiting for a game fix there are several ways to overcome it, choose one among them :
- Set your vital frame size to 1.00 in ui settings options tab.
- Disable 3D portrait in lotro ingame options.
- Roll back to JRR Skins collection v33 while praying for the devs decide some day to spend a few minutes to fix their fucking bugs.
- Delete this line of code from the skindefinition.xml file of each skin you use (but this will also reactivate the present issues of zooming and de-centering) : <Element ID="PlayerPortrait" Height="55" Width="55" Y="26" X="25"> </Element>
- You also have the possibility to fully replace the "regular" player vital frame by a plugin made one, as for example : https://www.lotrointerface.com/downl...1-Athelas.html

- I installed a JRR addon and selected it on my character, but some panels backgrounds or other elements are replaced by a light grey frame
If only a few elements are greyed (meaning that the corresponding picture file was not not found at the indicated location), uou should re-dowload and re-install the skin or this can be a error from my side. Don't hesitate to report me this kind of issues.
If a big amount of grey frames occurs, first ensure you installed the pack of skins at the right location on your hard drive, then ensure you installed the optional addon folders side by side with the "JRR Skins collection" folder.
"JRR skins collection" folder must not be renamed and must be directly placed at the right place, not inside another custom/unpacking folder, if not, optional addons won't work and show only grey frames.
Optional addons folders must be located outside JRR skins collection folder, and placed just beside it.

- How do I uninstall a skin from my computer ?
Simply delete the skin folder you had previously copied onto your from your hard drive (I mean in ...Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\ui\skins\ folder), that's all.

- The map is no more fullscreen !
This is not a bug, this is a skinning choice, it is really convenient in some situations, and on multi screen systems.
Indeed the map is displayed at its actual size, without the zooming blur.

- How can I restore the fullscreen map ?
Use a text editor software (as Windows notepad) to open the skindefinition.xml file located in the folder of the theme you want to tweak, then look for these lines (you can use Control F) and delete them :
Code:
<PanelFile ID="ID_UISkin_MapPanel">
<Element ID="MapBackground" X="0" Y="0" Width="1024" Height="768"> </Element>
</PanelFile>
then save changes in the file than relaunch lotro.

- Can I tweak the size and/or the location of the windowed map on my screen ?
Unfortunately NO, this is an unofficial skinning tweak and it do not supports changing its size or its location on your screen.
It seems the only values presently supported are these default ones.

- On skins containing "custom" in their name, my toolbar is not centered or its buttons cannot be clicked
These particular profiles require the user to edit the corresponding skindefinition.xml file to position the toolbar in order to fit his own game resolution.
The way to proceed is logged at the beginning of the skindefinition.xml file from the skin you want to fiddle. Open it with any text editor, like Wordpad or Notepad.
Any higher resolution is supported, just calculate it as explained in the beginning of the skindefinition from each skin embedding a custom toolbar.
I you play in window mode or switch between window mode and fullscreen mode, you can bypass the "Y" issue by simply setting the toolbar scale to a value different than 1.00 ( in lotro option panel -> UI settings tab) (0.99 or 1.01 is ok).

- My character doesn't show in the dressroom !
JRR skins collection doesn't supports resolutions with a height below 768 pixels.
If you run Lotro with a resolution height equal to 768, you have to play in fullscreen mode to get the dressroom correctly displaying the character.
Higher resolutions allow to play indifferently in fullscreen or windowed modes.

- The auction house panel is too big !
Your screen resolution is too low ! ^^
If you run Lotro with a resolution height equal to 768, you have to play in fullscreen mode to get the auction house panel entirely displayed and usable.
Higher resolutions allow to play indifferently in fullscreen or windowed modes.

Global credits :

- I built my very first release of the JRR theme using the theme Jack's RedPin-UI 1.0 by Jack of Windfola as a starting base, which inspired me the name "JRR" as a wink signifying "Jack's Redpin Revisited" and of course referring at the same time to JRR Tolkien as the pack is mainly a tribute to the work made by a community of artists inspired by the author of the Lord Of The Rings. However, almost every elements from this starting base has been replaced over the time.
- Many panels elements in different themes come from Brygard's B.G.M, some other pictures and codes come from Eclipse UI, Azure Glass, JappMe.
- I used some wallpapers and artworks from LOTRO, "lord of the rings" the movie and of the game "the battle for the middle earth II".
- "Larger Auction Panel" by Thrashfinger, modified by Wicky71 and by Adra.
- Numerical PVP rank icons & vitals pvp rank display fix, by Adra.
- Dressing room by Brygard, modified a first time by Jack then by Adra.
- Custom Saruman rings, by Adra.
- "Transparent Map Tracker" by Hazado.
- Mail and vendor parts from "Firefern's Crafting, Vendor and Dressing Room" by Mirarkitty.
- Extended Barter by The Old One, modified by Adra.
- Attunement bar (Rune keeper) from "ZerCleanUI" theme, by Zerstor.
- Gambit backgrounds by Halvr
- "Warden Gloss" by Zamos.
- Windowed map from Eclipse UI, by Eclipse aka Shivega.
- Extended Crafting Panel with localization fixes, by Adra.
- Taller Legacy Extraction panel from UiBuilder by The Old One, modified by Adra in order to display the 7th legacy.
- Expanded master loot window (20 items max instead of 10), by Eric Led, updated by Adra.
- Extended legendary item dismantling result window, by Adra.
- Some store buttons removal codes are from Elwe's no store button, some others by Adra.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

The deed log receives new tab elements each time a new area is released, so it is a major time saving to let it as default and this also prevents the skin to be regularly outdated

There is no need to read any skinning manual (and I dunno where to find one ), especially if you plan to manage only the picture files.
You can batch convert TGA files to PNG and back to TGA after editing it in photoshop with XnView, which is a free software.

In the last release of JappMeUI, published in 2011, there were 23 elements in its "vitals" folder.
In the JRR edition of JappMe there are currently 56 custom vital picture files.
A full set of custom vitals at the current state of the game should count more than 230 elements !
It should be a huge load of work to draw the more than 200 missing vital elements.
However you can easily replace the JRR edition elements with the 23 former ones if you wish. You only have to overwrite the present files with the old ones while keeping their current names.
However player and opponent vital pictures will have to be extended in photoshop from 105 pixels height to 125 to be correctly displayed in the game, as this has been changed during the years.
And when you're done, you can even publish it on lotrointerface as a patch for JRR Skins Collection if you wish to

Concerning any potential future additions in the JRR Skins Collection, the fact is I reached the file size limit on lotrointerface, and I already optimized the themes files size as much as I could (in addition of sharing a lot of files between the themes) in order to be able to publish the few last releases.
Anyway, I do not plan any new content, so that's not really a problem for now

Thank you very much for this compilation – for keeping the most beautiful skins alive. If not for you – they all would've been forgotten a long, long time ago.

I'm a big fan of this German JappMe skin and I remember it was broken way before the skinning activity went on hiatus. I made some hacks here and there to keep it working way back then. But eventually it totally broke.

I also remember that this skin included graphics for deed log. Every tab and every bookmark was redrawn by the author. A sight to behold.

I know, porting that wouldn't make much sense today, as now there are way more regions. However, I do remember that it also had customized default player and mob vitals. I think, I do have a version of the skin with those elements. Most likely, it dates back to Mirkwood F2P times.

Would it be hard to brings these graphics back? I also might help with that though I'll definitely need to spend some time reading the skinning manuals.

Again, thanks for all your hard work!

@Cambruin

Hi

That was not an error but a choice. Several wardens complained about the Gambit combo name removal when I introduced it in the JRR skins, so I put the whole code between comments to disable it by default, while still letting the ability to easily re-enabling it by players who are interested using it by moving up the end comment arrow at the end of the first line of this panel code. (but I admit this was a bit dedicated to advanced users )

Concerning the mount name removal (not for the war steed), you can give a chance to this not yet tested code

Code:
<PanelFile ID="ID_UISkin_GamePlay_MountedPetManagerBox">
	<Element ID="GamePlay_MountedPetManagerBox" X="200" Y="100" Width="208" Height="97">
		<Element ID="MountedPetManager_HW" X="0" Y="20" Width="207" Height="77">
			<Element ID="MountedPetManagerField" X="0" Y="0" Width="207" Height="77">
				<Element ID="PetVitalDisplayField" X="0" Y="0" Width="207" Height="73">
					<Element ID="PetNameText" X="40" Y="1" Width="1" Height="1"> </Element>
				</Element>
			</Element>
		</Element>
	</Element>

Awesome, thank you so much Adra! It worked.

Edit 1:
Here we go again, sorry Adra, you're the go-to guy for any issues regarding skinning
The Gambit combo removal does not seem to work anymore. I changed the values of X, Y as well as both of them from 2000 to -2000, but the gambit cashout name does not seem to budge. I know this worked before, so I guess SSG changed the parameters/naming thingies perhaps?

Edit 2:
Nevermind, found the issue Booted up LotroAPI, scrolled down to the gambit panel, text was showing all green instead of the usual orange/blue, so figured something was wrong. It seems during the transition from Jappme_Short to 'light', you removed the "-->"
I had no idea the colours actually meant something, so lesson learnt today

Let's see if I can find a way to remove the mount name from the panel next

Original code:
Code:
 <!-- Gambit combo name removal
 <PanelFile ID="ID_UISkin_GamePlay_GambitBar">
 <Element ID="GamePlay_GambitBar" X="710" Y="591" Width="281" Height="118">
 <Element ID="GambitBar" X="0" Y="0" Width="281" Height="98">
 <Element ID="GambitWindow_GambitCashout_Name" X="0" Y="0" Width="1" Height="1"> </Element>
 </Element>
 </Element>
 </PanelFile>
 -->
Corrected code:
Code:
 <!-- Gambit combo name removal -->
 <PanelFile ID="ID_UISkin_GamePlay_GambitBar">
 <Element ID="GamePlay_GambitBar" X="710" Y="591" Width="281" Height="118">
 <Element ID="GambitBar" X="0" Y="0" Width="281" Height="98">
 <Element ID="GambitWindow_GambitCashout_Name" X="0" Y="0" Width="1" Height="1"> </Element>
 </Element>
 </Element>
 </PanelFile>
 <!--End of "Gambit combo name removal" -->

@Cambruin

Hi,

you could test inserting these lines at the end of the skindefinition.xml file but above </opt> and see if it does what you want after reloading lotro (I have not tested it) :

Code:
<PanelFile ID="ID_UISkin_GamePlay_RadarBox">
	<Element ID="GamePlay_RadarBox" X="822" Y="12" Width="224" Height="260">
		<Element ID="GamePlay_Radar" X="0" Y="20" Width="224" Height="260">
			<Element ID="AreaText_Label" X="27" Y="200" Width="1" Height="1"> </Element>
			<Element ID="CoordinateText_Label" X="12" Y="220" Width="1" Height="1"> </Element>
			<Element ID="AreaText_QuestHighlight" X="0" Y="194" Width="224" Height="32"> </Element>
		</Element>
	</Element>
</PanelFile>

Hi Adra,

It seems the original forums have been taken down and there's no way to brose them.. I remember the small changes I made with your help to your JappMe skin, but one change I can't seem to remember or find..

How does one hide the rader taxt please? I remember it was creating a new Panelfile I think.. but as original forums are down, I can't seem to recover it.

Any chance you have an idea how?

Looking forward to your response and thanking you once more for keeping JRR skins alive and well!

@Caerulean

Hi, sorry for the late reply, lotrointerface failed (as often) to aware me about your message.

- In v34, I enlarged the target of target vital frame, targeted objects frame is almost unchanged.

Hi. I have an issue that started with version 34 and is still present with the latest version. I've been using the last version before v34 to avoid this issue, which is perfectly fine so if you can't figure out, it's all right, I can manage. But it'd be nice if I can use your latest work. (Regardless, thanks for all the work you've put in this plugin.)

Screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JnK...ew?usp=sharing

The Target Selection Indicator vitals(?) is larger than both the player vitals and the target vitals. Also, the player avatar becomes smaller.

Ignore the stretched graphics, haha. I took the screenshot in the wrong resolution (I have a square monitor but I have the resolution set to 1280x720 and so screenshots look like this unless I switch the aspect ratio to 16:9 first, which will look fine in the screenshot but will look compressed to me in-game).

Re: Re: Re: Family tree picture

@Thranduil

I use xnview to convert tga files to png and vice versa

You can replace files and change their location on your hard drive as you wish in the skindefinition.xml file or you can replace the content of a picture and keep the same filename to avoid editing the skindefinition.xml file.

Re: Re: Family tree picture

Thanks for your fast answer.

I found the tga files in both folders. but is there a chance to copy the original picture and save as an own file. it was not possible and also i did not manage to to work with the tga file and exchange the picture in there. Is there a special program needed to open and work with tga files? Or a special size of other pictures needed before putting them in there?

Thank you so much again

Re: Family tree picture

@Thranduil

Hi and thanks for your kind feedback.

In the skindefinition.xml file look for pedigree_bg to get the name of the corresponding picture.

For jappme it is a shared file in JRR Core folder : bio.tga

For grey wizard it is family_tree_bg.tga in misc folder.

Regards.

Family tree picture

Hallo and thanks for the amazing design collection. You are giftet and shared your talent with so many.
I am new to the topic and love to use some of them on my characters. But i would like to ask a question. I wanted to change the family tree picture of the grey wizard or japp me theme but in both cases i couldnt make out the original picture , the .jpg file used and where its saved. So it was impossible to exchange. But in other themes are seen so beautiful ones i would love to see there instead.

I would be really thankful if you could answer me to this question.

Kind regards.

@Dexter

This is normal, I didn't reworked everything
In this case only the linear frame part is customized.
