The plugin can detect repeated quests and automatically make reminders for you

Description
Introduction

This plugin helps you keep track of all those recurring tasks you need to juggle when managing several characters. It maintains a table of reminders for "to do" items, each of which has a countdown timer and an optional color-coded category. You can organize the reminders into tabs however you prefer, such as a tab for each character, or a tab for each category of task.

Thanks to Gloradan for the idea, for French translations, and for the beautiful, giant icons he made for the plugin!

Thanks to Glafria for German translations.

Installation and Startup

To install:
  • First, unzip the archive. You will get a folder called "Thurallor". Move this folder into your Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins folder. (If you have not previously installed any plugins, you will have to first create the Plugins folder.)
  • Or if you prefer, you may use Plugin Compendium to do the installation.
To load the plugin, use the game's built-in Plugin Manager. This can be found in the "^" menu, at the bottom of the screen. Click the icon, then choose "System" and then "Plugin Manager".

When the Plugin Manager opens, find Reminders in the list on the left side, then click "Load" to load the plugin. If you would like the plugin to load automatically each time you login, choose your character's name in the "Automatically Load For" pulldown menu.

Features
  • When the timer for a reminder expires, the icon for the plugin will show a flashing indicator to alert you.
  • When the timer for a reminder expires, you can delete the reminder, postpone it, or simply leave it alone. In that case you'll get another alert next time you login.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders for repeatable quests and tasks.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders for crafting cooldowns: When you craft an item with a cooldown, it automatically adds a reminder that will expire when the cooldown is complete.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders when you open Ingredient Crates and Premium Ingredient Crates.
  • If you specify a location for a reminder, the plugin provides a convenient button to set the target for Waypoint.
  • You can create as many categories as you want and assign colors to them.
  • Automatically create travel itineraries by pasting a list of locations from lotro-wiki.
  • Reminders can be sorted by any column of the table (description, category, character, and time remaining). All of the table columns can be resized or hidden, and you can change the color of each tab and its associated table. Right-clicking on a reminder allows you to copy/move it to a different tab.
Wish List
  • Support for priorities (high, medium, low), and in particular, the ability to specify whether a reminder should produce a notification when it expires, based on its priority.
  • More types of automatically-generated reminders.
  • Drag-and-drop support to move the reminders around within the tables and among the tabs.
  • Better support for multiple servers. Currently all of the reminders for each server are completely separate; in order to see the reminders for another server, you need to login to a character on that server.
  • Caching to reduce plugin load time.
  • Translations for Russian players. Please send me a PM if you're willing to help.
  • Proper support for Daylight Saving Time.

I added the "Next reset" column in v1.51. Please give it a try and let me know what you think.

The "postpone button" can now be used to advance the expiration time to the next reset time (if configured to do so).

Will do.

When automatic quest reminders are created (after clicking the "Yes, remind me" button), they don't show up in the reminder list until the quest is completed. However, some quests take a long time to complete, and may be forgotten before they are finished. Would it be possible to have them show up in the list (uncompleted) as soon as the "Yes, remind me" button is clicked?
This is implemented in v1.51. Just click the "Now" checkbox before clicking the "Remind me" button.

A friend suggested having a column for Priority (high, medium, low) and, if possible, a way to restrict the number of active reminders displayed in the icon to a specific priority. For example, this person has a lot of low-priority tasks that they want to remember, but don't necessarily want to be reminded to do -- they want to do their high-priority tasks and then be able to see a "0" in the icon.
This is certainly doable. I'll put it on my wish list.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Fantastic, thank you!

I believe what you're asking for is already implemented. You can enable the "Checkbox" column to show a checkbox for each reminder. The plugin remembers the checked/unchecked state, but otherwise the checkboxes have no effect. (To clear all checkboxes, click the checkbox in the column heading.)
If, on the other hand, you want to advance the "Time" field a certain interval, that's what the "postpone" button () is for. Let me know if these features aren't sufficient.
I don't think the checkbox column is precisely what I'm hoping for, because it doesn't update the Time column (or the number of "active" reminders displayed in the icon). The postpone button is almost what I'm looking for, except I believe that it requires me to remember what the reset time should be -- at the very least it's not a simple button click.

I'm using the plugin primarily to keep track of daily & weekly objectives. When I set up the reminder, I choose the reset time, and I'm not going to want to change it. The way it works for automatic quest reminders is exactly what I want, but with a way to trigger that manually (by perhaps clicking a button that tells the plugin "I did this task").

Quote:
Theoretically I could create some reminders when the user does the "/raid locks" command in the chat window. But I'm not a raider (I only play warden) so I need someone to thoroughly explain the system to me and be willing to help with testing. (Actually completing a raid is even more difficult for me than getting invited to one.) Ideally, someone would put complete and up-to-date information on lotro-wiki. Then I could evaluate the best way to support it.
I'd be happy to help with this! If you want to chat, send me a private message and we can find a convenient way to communicate.

I've collected a couple additional feature requests recently:
Again, I can't stress enough how great this plugin is. But it is so powerful that it opens up a lot of really exciting options, and I'm happy to help in any way I can!

Good idea. I will look into adding a "Next reset" column (hidden by default) in the next release.

In the meantime, you could create a new category called "Deadline", with a highly visible color such as red. Then clone your existing reminders, change their category to "Deadline", and set their Time field accordingly. When they expire, you can click the "postpone" button () in the Time column. (You can change the behavior of this button by right-clicking on it.)

2. A way to easily tell the plugin that you've completed a reminder (i.e. "I've done task X for this week"). A button or checkbox on the main panel for each reminder that doesn't auto-complete would be perfect (or maybe even for the auto-completing ones as well in case you don't want to be reminded about a particular item until its next cycle).

Are instance chest locks exposed by the API? I'm assuming not, since they are relatively new, but they would obviously be very helpful for instance reminders.

Thanks for the great plugin! There are two features that I think would be very useful:

1. The current design is good at answering the question "What tasks can I do now?", but it is not very good at answering "How long do I have to do X?". For recurring reminders, I would love to have a column that showed the time left until reset. That way, when you have a bunch of things to do, you can easily choose the one that is most urgent.

I'd love to be able to set the default time to "never". I use this plug in in a way that might not be intended. I use it to keep track of treasure caches and dwarf markers I come across before I have to go back and finish the deeds. It's great for "dropping pins" and leaving all sorts of reminders and I also get the reminders upon log in to craft the alliance rep I'm lacking. Thanks for this great plugin.
Thanks for the suggestion. Adding this feature in version 1.46.

Hi SidTheMadHatter,

Thanks for reporting the issue. It'll be fixed in the next version, assuming the root cause is the same one as I have identified previously.

Meanwhile, there is a (cumbersome) workaround: Unloading and reloading the plugin should fix the problem.

Edit: This might help.

Edit 2: The problem is fixed in version 1.44. Thanks again for your very specific bug report!

I've narrowed it down that it has something to do with the 'Defer this until next login' arrow on the main window (not on the popup).

Hello Thurallor,

Really like this plugin - it has helped me with many different tasks in game.

I do want you to know that although I haven't been able to narrow down exactly what action is causing it (still working on that), I've narrowed it down that something to do with your plugin is causing the long-standing camera zoom bug to happen more frequently for me. If you're unfamiliar with the bug, here, here and here will explain it a bit better. There are a ton of threads about it. I'm fairly certain it has to do with the closing of the main window and changing/losing focus....but I'll keep working on it and update here when I think I might have it figured out.

This bug is annoying because the only way to fix it is to completely exit the game. Logging the character out has no affect once the bug starts.

I narrowed it to your plugin by only having that plugin load, having the reminder popups set to "at login" and the only actions I performed were opening the main plugin window by clicking on the icon, resetting the timer and closing the window via the X - to have the mouse zoom suddenly stop working. It's pretty predictable.

Yes, that does work great. The notification popup works for me and the repeat options as well. Thanks so much for adding those features.

Hey robhupf,

Please try the new version (1.40). It adds (optional) popup notifications.

It also adds support (in a way) for your desire to have reminders that occur, for example, every 20 minutes. You can configure the "postpone" button that appears when a reminder expires. Right-click on it to define what it does.

Best regards,
Thurallor

Reminders

Maybe you could make it an option when creating a reminder whether to have a pop up reminder or not.

Thanks again for all you do.

My guess is that I missed the reminder firing because the only indicator is the number on the Reminders icon. Is there not anyway to have an audible or popup reminder when the reminder goes off?
An audible notification isn't possible, but a visual one is. My sense is that most users would find it annoying to have a window open every time a reminder expires, which they would then have to click on to close. But maybe an optional message could appear in the middle of the screen, and/or a more conspicuous change in the reminders icon.

Reminders

Thanks for the replies Thurallor. I did some more testing and the countdown timer function does work. My guess is that I missed the reminder firing because the only indicator is the number on the Reminders icon. Is there not anyway to have an audible or popup reminder when the reminder goes off?
