The plugin can detect repeated quests and automatically make reminders for you

Description
Note: I am no longer playing LOTRO or doing plugins. Any other competent plugin author is invited to take over maintenance of this and/or any of my other plugins. --Thurallor 6/13/2023

Introduction

This plugin helps you keep track of all those recurring tasks you need to juggle when managing several characters. It maintains a table of reminders for "to do" items, each of which has a countdown timer and an optional color-coded category. You can organize the reminders into tabs however you prefer, such as a tab for each character, or a tab for each category of task.

It can automatically create reminders for crafting cooldowns, raid/chest locks, tasks, daily/weekly quests, and ingredient crates.

Thanks to Gloradan for the idea, for French translations, and for the beautiful icons. Thanks to Rimeya and Glafria for German translations.

Installation and Startup

To install:
  • First, unzip the archive. You will get a folder called "Thurallor". Move this folder into your Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins folder. (If you have not previously installed any plugins, you will have to first create the Plugins folder.)
  • Or if you prefer, you may use Plugin Compendium to do the installation.
To load the plugin, use the game's built-in Plugin Manager. This can be found in the "^" menu, at the bottom of the screen. Click the icon, then choose "System" and then "Plugin Manager".

When the Plugin Manager opens, find Reminders in the list on the left side, then click "Load" to load the plugin. If you would like the plugin to load automatically each time you login, choose your character's name in the "Automatically Load For" pulldown menu.

Features
  • When the timer for a reminder expires, the icon for the plugin will show a flashing indicator to alert you.
  • When the timer for a reminder expires, you can delete the reminder, postpone it, or simply leave it alone. In that case you'll get another alert next time you login.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders for repeatable quests and tasks.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders for crafting cooldowns: When you craft an item with a cooldown, it automatically adds a reminder that will expire when the cooldown is complete.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders when you open Ingredient Crates and Premium Ingredient Crates.
  • If you specify a location for a reminder, the plugin provides a convenient button to set the target for Waypoint.
  • You can create as many categories as you want and assign colors to them.
  • Automatically create travel itineraries by pasting a list of locations from lotro-wiki.
  • Reminders can be sorted by any column of the table (description, category, character, time remaining, etc.). All of the table columns can be resized or hidden, and you can change the color of each tab and its associated table. Right-clicking on a reminder allows you to copy/move it to a different tab.
Wish List
  • More types of automatically-generated reminders.
  • Drag-and-drop support to move the reminders around within the tables and among the tabs.
  • Translations for Russian players. Please send me a PM if you're willing to help.
  • Proper support for Daylight Saving Time.

I saw you published a V1.05 Version. But the Dowload Button here still is giving the 1.00 Version for me... :-/ Did I missed something?

Thanks for reporting that. I don't know what the problem is, I'll have to ask the admins.

Edit: I just incremented the version number, and re-uploaded it; I think that fixed it.

Timer reset on repeated event

Hello,
since i notice you are adding a lot of features:
what do you think on automatically resetting the timer on a repeated event.
i.e. when crafting an item with cooldown an event is created.
when i log on the next day the timer is expired.
it would be very nice if upon recrafting the same item the plugin would reset the timer instead of creating a new reminder.

It's possible (although would require some effort to implement it), but it raises some questions without obvious answers.

Currently, after a reminder is created, it is never modifed again by the plugin. The user could move it to a different tab or category, change the description, or even change the expiration time.

If the same repeated event occurs again, should the plugin then destroy all of those changes to reuse the same reminder, instead of creating a new one?

I think the clearest way for the plugin to work is to create a new reminder each time. Even if it requires you to explicitly delete the reminder each time it expires, I think the value of a consistent paradigm is more important than that minor inconvenience.

Possible conflict with Sequence Bars

I downloaded the latest version of Reminders yesterday and when I logged in, Sequence Bars wouldnt load, referencing the Common Utils. I unzipped the Common folder from the last download of Sequence Bars and it fixed it. Not a big deal, but I wanted to let you know.

P.S. I love your plugins. Thanks so much for your work.

Re: Possible conflict with Sequence Bars

Thanks for reporting that. That's disappointing, because not everyone will be as persistent as you. Most people would probably just uninstall it rather than try to fix it, or even report the problem to me.

Turns out that sharing common files between different plugins is kind of a pain in the ass. I have to be extra careful when making future releases.

Yep, just like DLL Hell... that's why I decided to leave all of the inventory code in AltInventory and ItemTracker separate even though they have a lot of common code and it's pretty inefficient to run them separately, if I ever changed any of that common code and users didn't upgrade both plugins they would break.

Thanks for your hard work Thurallor. Always enjoy using your mods!

I have a strange bug report for you...

I have the icon placed in the following position on my screen as per this screenshot:

https://i.imgur.com/ygEKW1M.png

The red rectangle I've drawn seems to be a 'dead-zone' for my mouse. I do not get any pop-up tooltips when hovering over that space nor can I move the skills from those slots.

When I move the icon away, I have no problems at all with pop-ups or moving the skills around.

At first, I thought it might be due to the info window that pops up from your mod telling me what reminders are on the list but I moved the icon up so it covered a different row and I was able to mouse over and get instant tooltip functionality from the covered icons.

So I leave it in your hands. I'm sure you will instantly realise what the issue could be.

I came up with a somewhat kludgy but workable way to manage the situation. Whenever I update a common file, I append a version number to the name, such as "Utils_1.lua" or "Utils_2.lua". Previously released plugins continue to use "Utils.lua". Users may end up with a cluttered common directory with multiple versions of each file in it, but it should work. Theoretically. Gotta be careful about which files are implicitly imported in __init__.lua.

Hi, Thurallor.

Not sure if this is just me...

Having an issue with the options, particularly saving the 'hide window border' and the 'icon transparency'.
(These are the only two I've noticed the problem on)
The window transparency seems to hold it's status after setting perfectly fine.

I can set these two options to my preference but when logged out or logged back in they have defaulted to a setting I set when you first released the mod.

I do have SequenceBars installed also, so this may be a factor.

Can I set these setting manually in a file somewhere? I'm a little loathed to uninstall and reinstall particularly since I've got the repeatable quests and all reminders set just how I like them now.

Thanks in advance

Hi, Hornbarn. I got some feedback, and apparently the latest version is thoroughly riddled with bugs that I'm going to imvestigate this weekend. XD

No, I don't think SequenceBars has anything to do with your problem. I'm assuming you're using the latest version of both plugins.

You can manually edit the settings file, which is in Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/PluginData/account/server/AllCharacters/Reminders.plugindata, but please back it up first.

In fact, please back it up anyway -- I've seen some cases where a bug caused the plugin to delete all of the reminders, and I'd hate for you to lose your data just when you've finally set it up to your liking.

Next release will be primarily bug fixes.
