The plugin can detect repeated quests and automatically make reminders for you

Description
Note: I am no longer playing LOTRO or doing plugins. Any other competent plugin author is invited to take over maintenance of this and/or any of my other plugins. --Thurallor 6/13/2023

Introduction

This plugin helps you keep track of all those recurring tasks you need to juggle when managing several characters. It maintains a table of reminders for "to do" items, each of which has a countdown timer and an optional color-coded category. You can organize the reminders into tabs however you prefer, such as a tab for each character, or a tab for each category of task.

It can automatically create reminders for crafting cooldowns, raid/chest locks, tasks, daily/weekly quests, and ingredient crates.

Thanks to Gloradan for the idea, for French translations, and for the beautiful icons. Thanks to Rimeya and Glafria for German translations.

Installation and Startup

To install:
  • First, unzip the archive. You will get a folder called "Thurallor". Move this folder into your Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins folder. (If you have not previously installed any plugins, you will have to first create the Plugins folder.)
  • Or if you prefer, you may use Plugin Compendium to do the installation.
To load the plugin, use the game's built-in Plugin Manager. This can be found in the "^" menu, at the bottom of the screen. Click the icon, then choose "System" and then "Plugin Manager".

When the Plugin Manager opens, find Reminders in the list on the left side, then click "Load" to load the plugin. If you would like the plugin to load automatically each time you login, choose your character's name in the "Automatically Load For" pulldown menu.

Features
  • When the timer for a reminder expires, the icon for the plugin will show a flashing indicator to alert you.
  • When the timer for a reminder expires, you can delete the reminder, postpone it, or simply leave it alone. In that case you'll get another alert next time you login.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders for repeatable quests and tasks.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders for crafting cooldowns: When you craft an item with a cooldown, it automatically adds a reminder that will expire when the cooldown is complete.
  • If enabled, the plugin will automatically create reminders when you open Ingredient Crates and Premium Ingredient Crates.
  • If you specify a location for a reminder, the plugin provides a convenient button to set the target for Waypoint.
  • You can create as many categories as you want and assign colors to them.
  • Automatically create travel itineraries by pasting a list of locations from lotro-wiki.
  • Reminders can be sorted by any column of the table (description, category, character, time remaining, etc.). All of the table columns can be resized or hidden, and you can change the color of each tab and its associated table. Right-clicking on a reminder allows you to copy/move it to a different tab.
Wish List
  • More types of automatically-generated reminders.
  • Drag-and-drop support to move the reminders around within the tables and among the tabs.
  • Translations for Russian players. Please send me a PM if you're willing to help.
  • Proper support for Daylight Saving Time.

I used this addon a while ago, just installed it again - but I can't remember the window being set to open on login of every single character.

I tried the options, but nothing seems to fix it. Does anyone know how I can stop the window from automatically opening when logging in?

Hi Thanatos94. I'm sorry that I did not reply sooner. I have been away from LOTRO for a while.

I assume you are using "Sprache: Deutsch" in the plugin's options. If so, then the command to show/hide the icon would be:
/erinnerungen umschalten symbol
If this is not working, it indicates a bug, which I am not aware of. Please send me your settings file for analysis. (I will send you my e-mail address in a PM.) The settings file can be found at:
Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/PluginData/<account>/AllServers/Reminders.plugindata
Thanks for reporting the issue and for your help in isolating it.

There is a chat command to show/hide the UI (but of course it wouldn't have solved your problem):
/reminders toggle window
/reminders toggle icon

Awesome. IMO, any non-trivial plugin needs to implement some sort of backups, because the client can occasionally scramble the .plugindata file, and there's no way to avoid it. Before I added the backups, your only recourse would have been to delete the .plugindata file and start over. For a plugin as intricate with settings and user data as Reminders, that can be a catastrophe. I'm glad it worked for you.

And I hadn't realized there was a checkbox column. I'll try that it should work admirably. Check it when I start a weekly, uncheck it when complete. Aha and a right click on a column header in a tab shows other columns available, including location parts I couldn't get to work right. Now I can do my inn league itinerary properly. Yowza!
If you're using the "Create itinerary..." feature (link), it should enable the checkbox column automatically.

Is the plugin being loaded? (Maybe your "Automatically Load For" settings got reset.)

If it's being loaded, do you see the (R) icon on the screen?

If not, do you see an error message in the chat window ("Standard" channel)?

Separately I think the below is too much overhead for you for too small a use case.
Performance wise, I think the impact would be minimal. But it is quite a bit of work.

The only thing I've wished I could do was flag the standing weekly task/mission etc reminders to indicate "I started it, now go finish". I suspect creating an In progress category for quests will do it. I'll play around with that.
You could enable the "Checkbox" column and use that to track progress.

Another thing you might do is make a separate tab for "in progress" items. Configure your settings (Settings -> Character -> Automatic Reminders) to create the reminders in that tab. Then when you finish them, move them to the other tab.

Yeah, the way the plugin currently works is: a reminder is uniquely determined by its tab, category, character, and description.

Whenever the plugin automatically creates a reminder (according to your Character-specific settings for automatic reminders) if the reminder already exists (same tab, character, category, and description) then that reminder is "reused" (i.e. the expiration time is updated); otherwise a new one is created. (This assumes you have the "Automatic reminders should replace existing reminders (auto refresh)" option enabled in the Global settings). However, if the existing reminder's tab, character, category, or description was manually changed, then it's deemed to not exist, so it isn't "reused", and a new one is created instead.

What I could do is: When you move a reminder to another tab or change its category, character, or description field, I can search the settings to see if any automatic reminders are configured to be created there (it could be more than one). Then present a list of all of the options that will cause a reminder to be created there, and allow you to specify in each case whether you want to update the options to create the reminder in the new tab (or new category, character, description). That is quite a little project for me to implement, and it's difficult to devise a user-friendly UI for it, which is why I haven't gotten around to doing it yet. Ideas for simplifications would be welcome.

Re: Moving reminder to different tab question

Quote:
I don't know if this is a bug or a feature, but when I allow an auto-created quest reminder on one tab (e.g. "Evernight"), and then move that reminder to another tab (e.g. "Festival"), then the next time I do that quest a new reminder is created on the original tab instead of resetting the time of the existing reminder on the new tab.

Is this working as expected, or should Reminders check for a quest reminder of this name on all tabs before creating one on the settings-based default tab?
The way this is currently implemented, you have to modify the underlying repeatable (click the gear icon with the A on it in the reminder description). Change the tab setting, and click "Remind me". Then you have to delete the instance of the reminder in the original tab. Note that the state of the reminder may be different in the new tab (complete/incomplete), since you're creating a new reminder, not moving the existing one.

I move reminders between tabs a lot (I group my reminders by priority, and the priority for a given repeatable changes as my priorities change), so it would be really useful to have a straightforward way to move both a reminder and its underlying repeatable to another tab. As is, you need to have a sophisticated understanding of the plugin to even approximate a "move to other tab" feature.

Very grateful to the author of this plugin already, but would be ecstatic to see this implemented!

Thanks for this really useful plugin. I have a feature request. Would you consider adding a new option for triggering reminders? It would be useful for me if I could have a reminder pop up every time I retreat or am revived. Ever since they changed Motivating Speech for captains so that it's no longer automatic, I've had the hardest time remembering to turn it on. I've set up a reminder for login, but another that would pop up after I've been defeated would help too. I'd imagine that this could be useful for any number of other toggle skills, too. The hunter's speed buff comes to mind, as do the crafting-related tracking skills. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback/suggestion. I'll add it to my list, but I can't promise when/if I'll get to it.

There is already a plugin for this (for any character that needs to always perform an action on revive, like Motivating Speech or Find the Path), LogRemind. It also displays the reminder when first loading so if it is set to autoload, it will remind you when you log in.
Thurallor should be able to implement the same mechanism in Reminders fairly easily, meanwhile, https://www.lotrointerface.com/downl...LogRemind.html
Thanks for the heads-up, Garan. I was hoping to avoid installing yet another plugin, but for the moment, I'll check out LogRemind.
