Re: Unable to Load the Plugin

I tried to load the plugin, but I get the unable to load the plugin message. I have other plugins running, so it is not the folder issue. Any suggestions?

Frankly I'm not sure at the moment - I'll look into it, but I can't say when a fix will be released. It will most likely be part of an actual update. Sorry about the issues - but after such overwhelming positive feedback on this concept - I've been working on making a far more useful version.

hm.. I like this idea, it would help alot with geting around, as the in-game map isn't very usefull at times except for finding quests, etc.
That being said, would it be posably to make this map method your default ingame map.. what i mean is, to take the current ingame map, have that showup in this little windowed kind of mode instead of fullscreen so that you can see where you are going (somewhat) while looking at the map at the same time. That's kind of what your map offers allready, except the ingame map has quests, etc that also show.. now, unless you would be able to somehow pull the quests markers/locations from the ingame map, and diplay them in the exact locations of your map.. (now that would be godly! ..hehe). I hope ya understand what i'm saying, if not let me know and i'll clarify it. thanks for all the work.

I can't give specific details about exactly what it's going to be able to do, as I'm not sure if everything I want to do will be feasible or not. However, I can share what my goals for this project are, and my plans.
First off, the window setup as it is now was thrown in mostly for aesthetic reasons - I do plan on allowing it more freedom of positioning and sizing; but it will remain as a window.
As far as quests go - the current plan is to essentially do a much more accurate equivalent of what sites like ruslotro/mehq do for their map - more accurate because of the zoom. However I do have plans to make filtering a bit easier, and of course, if they give us access to the quest tracker, I'd certainly make use of that.
In addition, I'd like to take the opportunity to really explore the social aspects of this - everything from sharing points with friends, making it easier to point people where they need to go, or just sharing POI's with the community itself. In addition, I'd like to have a setup where players can easily get updated points as well. A lot of this will take some "web work" but that's one of the ultimate goals.
Unfortunately - recent real life events, as well as the EU update and this latest update for the US client has kept me a bit busy with Palantir, resulting in being a little slow to update (or even respond ) However, I haven't forgotten about this - and in fact, have nearly completed an application that will allow the map to receive location/heading data - so I can add the arrow.

This has to be better then this blathering hobbit scribble we have now (Anything is better then the standard map), personally I find grid style maps tend to be easier to read.

Does this allow to show other zones or just the default one? I cant seem to change it. Looks great and I hope to see more with this. I cant stand the in game map and I hope this works out great.

Right now there's just Lothlorien, as this was the only zone I had tiles already made for, and since this was mainly a "Proof-of-Concept"/Demo, most of the focus was on creating the plugin itself. However, I am currently working on additional map packs, and they will be available with the next update (which will also allow for adding/removing/saving custom points.)
I can't give a date right now on when this update will be available, as I've recently been a bit busy with some real life stuff, but I'll get it out as soon as I can.

I just downloaded this today and am having a similar problem.
I did not have a "Plugins" folder so I created one. I then typed "/plugins load lotromaps" and it comes back with "Unable to load lotromaps"
Ideas?

Make sure the Plugins folder you created is in the same "The Lord of the Rings Online" folder as where your screenshots are saved to. By default this should be My Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/ - but for whatever reason this isn't always the case.
Also, make sure the first folder within Plugins is "DigitalUtopia". This folder should have three folders within it (LotroMaps, Utilsx and DUInterface), along with a LotroMaps.plugin file.
The easiest way to tell whether or not you have it saved in the right place is by typing:
/plugins refresh
if you don't see it on the list, LotRO can't find it.

Looks great so far! Really hoping and looking forward to continued development with it. Especially with the potential ability for it to show where we are and add in waypoints and the like.
This goes way back a bit, but back when I played UO one of my absolute favorites was UO Auto-map, a program that allowed me to open up a map in a separate window showing where I was and the area around me. I'd drag that over to my second monitor when I had one and then had a constantly updated live map right next to my game window. While I don't expect this to ever get to that stage, that would be an incredible high point for me.

Well, before the plugin system was announced and I got a beta invite, I was working on a web based version of basically the same thing - this one using the real Google Maps API. Another option would be just making an external app that uses the same resources as the Lua Plugin - either way it doesn't appear possible to create an external window from within the game itself (after all, even LotRO itself doesn't appear to be able to do such a thing) At any rate, no matter which method is employed, all that's really necessary is location data within the API. Once that is possible, data could be read from a plugin data file by the external app, and the location could be updated in that manner
