AS OF OCTOBER, 2009:
I will no longer be supporting, updating, or troubleshooting this UI. Anyone who'd like to update, modify, steal from, or otherwise make use of any or all of my work is more than welcome to do so. Don't even bother asking to be polite; I'll likely never see the message. I'd appreciate being given credit, but I won't track you down and murder you if you don't.
Thanks for the support, encouragement, and help, all. Best of luck.
~Halvr, at your service!
===
IMPORTANT NOTE: After selecting either version of this UI skin, you will need to log out to the character selection screen and log back in before the skin will load properly.
IMPORTANT NOTE #2: In order for the skin to work properly, you'll need to disable 3D Object Portraits. Go to Options > Advanced Graphics and uncheck it. It's towards the bottom.
This download consists of two versions of my Black Fade UI skin: The Standard version (which retains the "normal" mainbar style, complete with auto-attack indicator/button) and a custom version designed for 1650x1080 screen resolution that eliminates all of the clutter and garbage on the mainbar. Also, there are sub-versions of each designed for the champion class, with unobtrusive indicators on the target frames for 25% and 20% target health.
Version Updates: Beyond the champion-specific target frames, the Companion Manager (pet frame) has been skinned, along with the progress bars. I eliminated the Mounted progress bar, as I find it mostly extraneous.
Beyond the obvious, there are a few subtle improvements over the default skin:
In both versions... - The "level button" replaces the avatar picture as the clickable area for the unit frames.
- The mob "class" (Normal, Elite, etc.) is displayed as a small color-coded abbreviation. Unfortunately, there is no graphic for Nemesis or Arch-Nemesis-class mobs; they share a frame with Normal targets. This is replaced by the class icon when a player is targeted.
- The Hope/Dread gem on the mini-map has a color-coded numerical display. It ranges from 0 (neutral) to 1-5 Hope and 1-5 Dread. The numbers do not match the current level of Hope/Dread, but they're much less vague than the default "Guess how bright the gem is glowing!" icon.
In Custom 1650x1080 only... - The various menu and inventory buttons have been shrunk, made mostly transparent, and moved over the ends of the experience bar. If you hover the cursor over them, an abbreviation or number appears. The legendary button is always visible and remains on the side of the mainbar.
In Default only... - The various menu and inventory buttons are still in their customary place and usable. If you hover the cursor over them, they appear as normal.
Comments, concerns, suggestions, corrections, or pretty much any other sort of feedback would be most welcome. Enjoy!
~Halvr

Are you going to skin the group and raid parts as well?
So everything matches together.

As far as I'm aware, the raid frames are mostly (if not entirely) unskinnable. I will eventually get around to doing the fellowship frames (as much as possible; several parts of those are unskinnable, as well), but I want to get the target's target/escort frames and menus finished up first.
I'd guess the next batch of updates will be done by next weekend, and probably have the fellowship frames the week after. Provided nothing goes wrong, of course...

i definitely will try this. One question beforehand:

Here's the skinny:
Nemesis and Arch-Nemesis mobs use the same frame as Normal mobs, but with an unskinnable overlay (which I removed). As such, both types display as "Normal" mobs with my UI. I think the huge amounts of Morale (and likely Dread and a big pre-boss-fight monologue) will give away the difference, though.
Also, there is some sort of issue with the Legendary Item Traders in Dolven-view not displaying their frames correctly. I just discovered it last night, so I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. So far, it's just those guys that I've noticed.
EDIT: Found the problem with the LI traders. I had mistyped the file name in the SkinDefinition.
All the other enemy mob-type frames are skinned and display appropriately. I'm not sure about all the ally frames, but Normal, Signature, and Hero at least work.

In the SkinDefinition.xml, under the <!-- Target Frames --> heading:
The following line is incorrect...
Code:
<Mapping ArtAssetID="opponent_vitals_backdrop_master_defender_good" FileName="Frames\opponent_master_defender_vitals_good.tga"></Mapping>
...and should be changed to...
Code:
<Mapping ArtAssetID="opponent_vitals_backdrop_master_defender_good" FileName="Frames\opponent_vitals_master_defender_good.tga"></Mapping>
The highlighted portions are where the error is (the _vitals_ bit is in the wrong place). That's it that I've found so far.
Note: I may be misremembering the incorrect example, but that is the line that needs to be changed.

Well, I just finished up my last exam for the semester, so I should have a decent amount of time to work on it this week. Both the Target's Target and Fellowship frames are giving me fits, so they're not likely to be included (though the Escort frame is working just fine). The new additions will include:
Menu buttons
Progress bar
Escort frame
And a big "maybe" on the Fellowship frames. I can't believe how disjointed the guts of that single aspect are. I may just end up sticking with the default Fellowship frames.
I'd wager I'll have another version up in time for the weekend.

Very nice work, everything I look for in a ui. Good to see people still supporting Lotro, although after this ui, no one else needs to
The unit frames are most to my liking. A perfect 10/10.

I would like to see the targets target without the icon next to it. More like the other square frames you have started. Looks to be a good start. I like square mini things.

Alright, here's the scoop on the Target's Target frames:
It's pretty much not possible.
I can change the graphic, but I can't move any of the individual elements (vitals bars, name text, de/buff bar, etc.). So, if I make the frame similar to the other frames, the text will be half sticking out of the side of the "fade box". What's worse, the text appears underneath the frame graphic, so it's half-hidden as well.
I'm currently putting the finishing touches on a new computer (waiting for Vista 64 to get here before I start working on anything), then I'll likely get back to work. Fellowship frames are about all I have left to do, other than refining and reworking some details.
