Get wiser with your store spending habits by learning the true cost of an item.
The LotRO store works by players purchasing items through a middle currency, which can make it hard to determine the true cost of an item and whether it offers good value for money or not.
This plugin is very simple to use, and helps calculate the real-world cost of a store/mithril item. It does this in three main currencies – EUR, GBP and USD. It will tell you how many VIP months would be needed (if applicable), the cheapest points bundle you would need to be able to buy the item, and the relative cost of the item in your selected currency.
The cost of the item is given in two ways: - The cost relative to the cheapest points package you would need to buy in order to complete the purchase. You may have plenty of points but only need a small top up, in which case the cost is calculated on the smallest package.
- The cost relative to the cheapest points package closest to the full cost of the item (this would be the package needed if you had no points at all so gives a more accurate representation).
By seeing the real-world cost of an item you can make an informed decision about the value offered in the store for each item, and hopefully feel more confident in how you spend your points.
Download and start using Store Assistant today.
Change Log:
v.1.1.0- Changed chat command to open main window to /storeassistant
- Added interface icon to open the main window rather than use the command. This icon can be dragged to relocate on the screen, and double clicked to open the window.
- Added Mithril Coins as an option to evaluate the cost of Mithril items.

I was just thinking you'd allow the user to specify his own value for "LP per hour". People who do this a lot probably have a very good idea of how long it takes to roll a new character, do all the easy/quick deeds, and delete it.

I completely see where you are coming from, and it would be a great addition to show another perspective on the store value. How would you even begin to measure this though? Most deeds are either 5 or 10 points, but how long that would take to grind varies so much on the player and what the deed is vs player level etc. I don't think I could even say it takes me x amount of time to complete a deed, because they are so varied across regions and difficulty. I could add a min-max number of deeds needed to earn in-game, and allow that to be some sort of measure.
|
One possible way would be to add an actual LP earning tracker based on the text that occurs when you are awarded LP points. Have the plugin track the actual time on line by tracking the start and end time of each session and accumulating time indefinitely as well as tracking total LP earned. You can then show the user their actual average earned LP per hour. Of course, it has limits, it only works if loaded all the time and it won't distinguish between intentional grinding versus casual play, but it could give a fair example of average earning. Perhaps a button to start/stop tracking to allow for distinguishing grind time.

This was added with the current update, I just forgot to document it.

I think it would be useful to have "grind time" as a currency that is convertible into LP at some user-definable rate. That would help people who try to play the game without spending real money.
"I could spend 100 LP on this, but I'd have to grind for 23 hours to earn those points back. Is this item worth 23 hours of my time?"

Local currency
It would be nice if you were able to add a local currency to the calculator.
ie. 2 input boxes in options (exchange rate and name of currency)

I know I can use this to calculate the cost of a MC package, but it would be convenient if you provided an option to calculate the cost of the various MC transactions (Housing storage, Trait tree slot, cosmetics)

I can take a look at it, but I think it may be a step more complicated than just converting LPs because MCs also come in different packages which provide a greater discount the more you buy. So it would need to consider what size package of MC you buy as well. Let me think on it and I'll see what I can do.

Re: Awesome, Nearly Perfect Plugin

I love this. I've only been using for a day and I love that I can just know this information. My one small request would be for a button in the bottom of the screen that I can toggle it on and off, or that the open command could also be /storeassistant. Nevertheless, brilliant little addon. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I can change the command in the next version for sure. I'll look to add an icon in the future.
For now if you want to change the command yourself it is fairly straightforward, if you navigate to the plugin folder and find the Commands.lua file. You can open this in notepad, just amend the second to last line to read:
Code:
Turbine.Shell.AddCommand("storeassistant", StoreAssistantWindow);
The load sequence will still say /storeassist but the full command will work instead.
