I want better icons & range indicators. The itty bitty little red icon in the upper right corner is hard for me to see, especially against reddish icons. I'd like to grey out the whole selection if I'm out of range.

I'd also like better cooldown indicators - I'd rather have numbers counting down the time like CT_Mod of OmniCC do in WoW.

Second the request for custom map notes.

I would -love- an all in one inventory like Baggins. Also something like Sanity to track items across all the characters.

Also second the request for a Fubar clone.

(I know this game isn't WoW, I just use that as an example since it has such slick modding abilities and talented mod creators.)

Strongdagger 04-09-2007 11:21 AM

Social Filter Options

I would love to see some more filter options in the social panel that also carried over to kinships.
-- Like EQII - Online, Online in past 24 hours, Online in past 3 days, etc.
-- Maybe for kinships - Officers Filter
These may not make sense for smaller kinships, but once you have over 20 people with 5 alts each, there ya go.

Someone had mentioned notes before on friends/kinship members. How about expanding that idea. There should be two fields: one private for kinship officers, and one for all to keeps notes in on all players. I've always used the notes field for things like "Killed uber-mob X and he gave me my sweet staff", "May be a farmer", or "Ninja-Griefer, reported 1/1/89" .

Lastly, now that all of us have some significant experience in MMORPGS. How about an ALT/MAIN section of the interface. I think WoW had Recipebook for comparing recipes, notes, items? More than that, just a quick interface to check skills, levels, equipment, recipes. When on the auction house, it can be so annoying to have to either write down all you alts equipment or relog to the other char. to see if you can remember the stats on his codpiece.

My 2 cents.

some things I would like to see

hello,

I haven't read through all of the posts here so if I'm repeating, please forgive me.

here are a few things that would make game play a tad easier.
1. being able to tab through the auction house input boxes.
2. allow for more flexible / commands. such as "/inv" instead of having to type out "/invite" to invite to a fellowship.
3. a / command to logout of the current character and quit the game "/logout" and "/quit".
4. / command to add someone to your friends list "/friend <name>".
5. the ability to attach more than one item at a time when mailing.

Apate 04-10-2007 12:54 PM

Perhaps I missed something in the options, but I'd kill for a better way to display and time buffs or debuffs.

Strongdagger 04-11-2007 11:46 AM

I agree! A buff timer would really be lovely! There are so many short term buffs and debuffs that would be fabulous.

It be great to have all those suggestions as official forum polls, so people could vote on what they want... might help sway the powers that be. :)

The things I'd like to see added to the list are;
  • Copy settings between characters.
  • Buff/Heal buttons next to fellowship portraits, ala Benecast and Caster. (See Below )
  • Optional timestamp for all chat windows/channels.
  • In mail, have Friends/Kinship list as a drop-down list on "To:" field.
  • Set font size for all channels at once.

Here's an example of how Benecast looks. That bar of buttons to the right of each character is what Benecast provides...

The big advantage is that you don't need to change targets to heal/buff someone in your fellowship.

That Multi Assist was also very cool :)

Im Browsing this site from in Game in the Help menu

I was able to link my way from the FAQ menu under Help:eek: . Has anyone considred making a Web Broswer interface for ingame browsing of Kinship Sites and Help Boards ? Im able to check my Gmail from inside LOTRO help menu but with the lack of a URL field it makes it a little difficult as i had to link hop my way around. By the way i found this feature cause Turbin was kind enoph to link there MySpace page from the FAQ menu, once i got to a search engine outside Turbin it was easy surfin... am i the only one excited about this ?

Kava 06-02-2007 03:50 AM

Thats very cool. I knew they have been working on website stuff, like a player database and such, but to be able to actually surf inside the game is awesome. Lets hope they embrace this, and don't nerf it.

Aalwein 06-02-2007 11:16 AM

and with the evendim update we may be able to resize that window!

Mail

I would like a mail mod/interface like the one in CTmod for WoW, I really miss being able to mass mail my other toons.

Sorane 11-19-2007 03:11 AM

Hi!

I really like the game, but for someone used to a comfortable and modern MMO UI from another game the UI of LOTRO really feels like there needs to be a lot of changes, especially to the raid-ui and inventory-ui (all ideas listed below are taken
from actually running UIs in another game... I can provide screenshots if needed!)

Here my suggestions to change... and please, when thinking about new UI, check some examples of existing UIs on cursedgaming and steal some ideas from there !!! There are really great UI Ideas out there! Or even better, try to hire some of the UI people behind the ace UI mod library ;-)

I think most work is needed on the raid UI.
When I first saw the raid frames in LOTRO I was pretty shocked. In a 24-people raid you feel like a submarine captain looking out. I originally come from a different MMORPG where this is solved much better, and I would like to make some suggestions to Turbine how the raid frames could get enhances.

(A "Raid Frame" is the part of the UI showing class/health/power/etc. of a singular character/mob)

Example of "good" Raid frames:

http://media6.curse-gaming.com/image...35984/Main.jpg

- In this example it is possible to sort by class number or group (and of course to display only some classes like it is possible now in lotro to only display some groups)
- it is possible to only display health, and not power
- It is possible to either display your personal group together with the
raid frames or not. If yes, this is shown by colored border of the frames
- it is possible to display buffs/debuffs from other groups in raid frames or not
- it is possible to display the class image (for your own group) or not. If
not visible the class is visible by the color of the name (white means priest,
in this example, for example)
- all elements of the frame can individually be enabled/disabled by settings
- Your "personal group": Location of all frames (the individual people) can
be moved by drag-and-drop
- raidframes for players and mobs are the same
- this is no fullscreen screenshot. Actually the raidframes only fill a VERY
small part of the screen.

1. Resize: Currently you can resize the raid frames. Unfortunately you can either make them small (then the text of the names is not readable anymore due to being too small) or resize (then the text is readable, but again they are big and place-wasting).

Idea: Make it possible to resize the text of the player names independently of
the raid frames (Morale/Power Bar etc.)

2. Character Class identification: To save extra place you could specify the
character class in a raid frame (instead of by the class symbol) by the color
of the character name. For example Minstrels white, Champions black, Guardians red,... This would save extra space.

3. Target of Target

Currently it is not possible to see the class of the target's target, unless you click it. In Random Raids this is a big issue. Suggestion: Again color the name in the "color of the class". This simplifies things especially for Guardians a lot.

4. Customizable Raid Frames: Make it possible to define all of a raid frame through an XML file. Let people specify their own Morale/Power Bar etc.
I also feel that between two players in the raidframe too much place is
wasted. They could be put more tightly together (look at http://media6.curse-gaming.com/image...35984/Main.jpg how raidframes in another game do this). Also making it possible to disable the powerbar (while still showing the morale bar) would be interesting for many cases. About customization I could provide some links to addons of a different game, where you could look what sort of things could be achieved there.

5. Sort by Class: In other games you can choose by "Sort by Fellowship" (as it is in LOTRO now) and "Sort by Class" in the Raid UI. Especially for tanks and healers often "Sort by class" is much better.

6. Assist Window: Like with the other windows: Save space !!! When resizing the text should stay big enough to be readable, but the BARS should get small. And remove all empty space around the window. Adding Target's Target's Target as option (disable-option by a small button) might be interesting. I can provide a screenshot of the WoW-Addon xPerl if you want which shows how this can be done at really minimal place.

7. Make the bar's smaller: The bar's can be really extremely thin lines, and positioned directly under the name of the character.

8. Debuffs: To make it easier to keep track of people's debuffs, add a "big version" of their debuffs (best with NAMES of the debuffs under the debuffs)
slightly left of the minimap. In fights with "deadly debuffs" this might help people a lot.

9. SmartDebuff-like Window: It might be an idea to add something like the
WoW-Addon SmartDebuff, which will show a number from 1 to 24 in a small matrix (each for a player), and when one of them gets a deadly debuff (or something else, open to configuration) the number changes color (according to type of debuff). By clicking of the number the player in question would be taken into the targeting. To save space: optional window.

10. Information Displays for raidleaders:

- An optional display showing how many people target a mob (below the target frame) to check if everybody assists
- A special command to check how many of a special item kind (for example Poison Debuff remover potion) everybody has in inventory
- Show (with a special command) the repair status in % (average on all items) of everyone
- Show the average percentage of power and morale everyone has and the number of people dead

11. General way to move the UI: Personally I'd like to be able to move the UI "in action" instead of strg+# where you only see a "border" looking like the ui. A option to lock the UI in place could get provided. This is a minor issue of course.

12. Threatmeter (could be integrated with an ingame-damagemeter, I could provide screenshots how something like that could look).

13. Frame Display: Make it possible that only specific fellowships (or only specific classes) will be shown in the raid UI

14. Focus: Add a possibility to set a focus. The focus would be another frame like the "target", and you could put the focus into the target (or the other way round) by a simple command. Or by clicking on the focus (I can provide a screenshot from another game, if needed). A functionality like (taking from the macro language of a different game)

/target focus
/assist

would also be interesting

15. Another pure optical thing for the non-raid-fellowship display: Why can I set a portrait only for myselves, but for the other members of the party only a symbol appears?

16. Healer Mode: Instead of showing the current Morale, show how much someone has LOST. Would be optional of course.

Some ideas to the inventory:

1. Provide a AllInOneInventory (one big bag showing the content of all bags),
support for inventory/bank/house
2. Provide an option to show the inventory contents of alt's (I can provide a UI Example from a different game if needed), though the items there could not get
manipulated of course and would be "read only"
3. Provide a sort option (after armour/weapons/crafter items/recipes/...)
4. Provide a fullstring search (only items matching are shown in the inventory)

About 3. and 4. I can provide screenshots of another game, how this may look.

5. Provide Outfitter functionality (Outfitter is a WoW Addon, I will explain how it works):

- When you click on an equipment slot on your character page, a list of "fitting items" from your inventory is shown left or right of the slot. By clicking one of the items you can equip it, without having to search for it in the inventory
- You can define "outfits" for special occasions (I can provide a UI Example from Outfitter, if needed) and then switch to them by a simple mouseclick.

And map/minimap:

1. Make the map resizable (smaller than fullscreen, so you can fight/move while
checking the map, also show questgivers you already visited - with listing their quest names! - on the map like in the "Cartographer" Addon for WoW)
2. Add a coordinate display to the Minimap (or at least to the display of a G15 keyboard).
3. For Raids: Make it possible to "ping" the minimap. Useful for explanation "you have to move HERE then".

Sorane

Sorane 11-19-2007 07:08 AM

Focus:

A possibility to take a target into "Focus", which will be displayed like a target's target, but as a separate entity. Now there would be an action

- switch target into focus
- switch focus into target
- switch to last selected target

A loremaster could for example:

- Take stun-target into focus
- stun it
- switch to main assist's target
- Do damage
- When he sees at the debuffs of the focus (which would be visible)
that the stun breaks, press the key for "switch to last selected target" or
"switch focus into target" and stun again

Also a /target command would be good.

Two more UI Ideas (also taken from existing implementations):

- AllInOneInventory
- A little bar of little buttons - I can provide screenshots if needed - which are basically very little circles or letters. Each of them is for one chat channel (including user chats/configurable). By clicking one of them you select this chat as current chat area (added to this make those tabs smaller).

Askyn 01-05-2008 01:10 PM

the main thing that I would love to see made available, is the ability to move / hide all elements with in individual ui frames.

More specifically, I would LOVE / KILL FOR the ability to change the fellowship window so that it was layed out horizontally instead of the current vertical layout.

IE - have the player info go left to right instead of up and down

player1 player2 player3 ...

instead of

player1
player2
player3
.
.
.

and then be able disable portraits, or shrink em way down to a dot.

This would be fantastic for healers, this way you could have your fellowship info go across the screen right above your quickbar sets, it would make targeting people for heals etc WAY easier, as well as keeping track of health.

Farinhin 01-23-2009 12:16 AM

One thing I would like to see with the UI itself is a snap-to function for the quckbars (different than the current docking function). This would allow me to have bar 1 snap to the mainbar if I chose to do so, then bar snap to bar 1 and so on and so forth. One of the most annoying things I have encountered so far with the UI is that I take my time trying to get pixel perfect alignment of my elements, only to find my bars off by a pixel or 2 when I relog. I feel that if we were able to snap the quickbars together it might help solve this problem.

Another element I would like to see is them making the mainbar moveable within the game rather than trying to find that center position from numbers in an xml file (maybe with the ability to tell the game to align it in the center/left/right automatically as the user saw fit). Just my 2 cents about the UI.

Brygard2007 05-28-2009 05:15 AM

Wish for mouse pointer change,as in color modifying resizing it.;)

Two Simple Things

Auctioneer - ala WoW for LoTRo - should be no sweat, right?

Midi Player - so you can have a midi version of your favorite song, and type something like /playmidi<song file> and my character starts jamming away on hit lute the notes of the midi file.

I can see it now, by the campfire, lets sing that old Deep Purple song,

Smoke over Mordor
a ringwraith in the sky.....
:D

or something like that.......

daimon 09-07-2009 05:17 PM

you can play .abc files already so basically you have your midi player. just learn to convert midi's in that format.. it isn't that hard when you have the right tools .. and there are tons of song (classics) on various sites ready for playing

Simple Interface

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a tiny mod to the UI. I'm working with a 1440 x 900 resolution and I just want the quickslot bars to dock differently but in an accurate manner instead of trying to match them up via dragging.

Quicklot 1 would be where it usually is, maybe a tad lower. Quickslot 2 would be right beside it. Then quickslots 3 and 4 would be on top of 1 and 2 respectively.

I'm guessing a pro can easily whip this out. Hopefully someone will hook me up :) I just don't the waste of space. Thanks guys!

daimon 09-19-2009 05:51 PM

hmm could be done but .. coordinates aren't that simple in layout.xml.

I suggest that you do it once properly yourself and then save the layout so you don't have to never do it again.

To save your layout type
/ui layout save (optional file name)

To load your layout type
/ui layout load (optional file name)

To unlock your quickslots check "Options" -> "Quickslots" and CTRL+# (keybind might vary so look it up from your Key Mappings) to move stuff around on your screen.

Awesome. That was my first idea but didn't know how to do that. This works. I'd still prefer precision but this is okay.

No real easy way then for precision? :/

Thanks again

The Crafting Interface

Hello, I'm fairly new to LOTRO, a couple of months or so & I'm having a great time. I've found myself in in a kin with a great bunch of people, but it's a smallish group, with a lot of alts. Currently I'm the only supreme master metalsmith, and I spend an aweful lot of time making gear for my kinmates, which I really enjoy. Makes all the effort of leveling the trade worthwhile.

So, to my interface wish. I havent counted, but I must have a couple of hundred recipies in the list, all of which I have to search through using the tiny little recipie window which shows, I think 8 recipies. It's a bit like looking out at the world through a letterbox. What I'd really like is more space to see what I have, so I can see components and the items I want to craft at the same time, without scroll up, scroll down, scroll up, scroll down, etc...

The image below is just a quick & dirty photoshop job, a cut & compile from several screenshots I took of my crafting interface. Not perfect obviously, If the crit items are shown then there'd be no need for the recipie & mastery oprion tabs at the bottom etc, but I just wanted to see how much nicer it would be if I could see more of my recipie list ot once. Maby the right hand pane could be tab'd untill mastery of a tier was achived, or the crit portion geryed out.

ANyway, it's just a small quality of life change that I'd love to see.
Finger crossed.

Multi-Monitor Support!

I want a mod that can make use of horizontal spanning (read: NOT extended desktop) of multiple monitors.

Typically in horizontal spanning with two monitors your character gets split between the monitors which is really annoying. So instead it'd be great to render the game on the main monitor as usual and use the 2nd monitor for UI elements.

This has been done in WoW, so why not here?

If the game could natively support a multi monitor setup (extended desktop instead of horizontal spanning) it would probably be even better!

Here's a link to how it's done in WoW:

Bulletsix 01-05-2010 01:35 AM

Many of my wishes have come true thanks to you guys here :)

atm i can think of just one remaining: being able to work at the grouping-window (filling from bottom to top instead of top to bottom, using the vital-frames from Daimon Mini ui, placing the buffs and debuffs right of the vitals instead of under them).
But if i didn`t overlook something in the current skin-dicitionary.txt (or something is missing there ^^), this part is currently not available for change :(
But hey, there are still many books and patches to come :)

If it could be done I would have done it already :/ Wish they would seperate the buff areas as their own elements instead being tied to vital frames. Even restricting the height (so I could block some of the buff rows) doesn't work .. the buffs are the most annoying part of the UI atm imo.

MrJackdaw 01-23-2010 10:17 AM

Please, please;

Horizontally or unlocked Fellowship unit frames...

I find it easier, when healing, to scan horizontally than vertically...

Not at this time, it's been requested on the Lotro forums since the game first came out. I would think it's not real high on their to-do list. :/

I'm greatly amused at how much his wish actually looks like what they wound up doing... (from the dev diary on Crafting)

I'm even more amused that it took them THIS long to actually bring about this change. It's actually been something people have been asking for since beta. I believe the only motivation they had this time was a monetary one. Three new items in the crafting window, all pointing to the store...

daimon 11-10-2010 04:47 AM

And I'm even more amused that Turbine's new one looks almost exactly like some of the older custom ones here ;)

goldbishop 12-02-2010 10:30 AM

when its popular, its popular.

I think they should give you UI option, so if you have the realestate to have the larger UI's, then by all means, but for some users they are already stretched with Window realestate and so they would need the minimal windows.

cantossit 12-11-2010 06:04 PM

I would love to have a small sizeable decorative box or some sort of indicator that alerts you when your toon is in combat while mounted. It should be placeable anywhere on your screen (I would locate it over my mount vitals) and only pops up when in combat and mounted, and then goes away when you are out of combat or still in combat but became dismounted.

For some classes, their weapons are big enough to be seen while mounted, but my poor hobbit burglar and dwarf RK get gobbled up inside the goat! I hate when I stop and get jumped by several mobs.

umm, might want to check out this plugin.. if you have it set to display while in combat, it will show you the HP/MP,etc while you are in combat mode. It's really nice, and easy to see if you are currently going to be attacked when you stop, or jump off your mount.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have checked out this plugin, and while it is a very good one it's not quite what I'm looking for. I only want to see an indication that I'm in or out of combat only while mounted. The bars surrounding my character while I'm actually fighting is distracting to me. But that's just me.

currently, this is the only method I can think of to see that you are in combat. Keep in mind, you can shink the bars, make them smaller, then move them around to the side of the screen, yea..they will still display, but they would be out of the way and not around your char?

As I was typing the last sentence, I was thinking about it ,and there is alot of other plugins that offer "show while in combat". Buffbars I think is one of them, and kragenbars I think also, there is a few other toolbar plugins that allow is. With those, you could setup a single spell icon into that plugin, all by it's self. When you go into combat, then it shows up.. that would be your indicator that you are in combat. Just an idea, not sure if it helps.

Very good suggestions there, I thank you! I will experiment with them.

The ability for a UI to track my own debuffs on a monster. When you're one of 5 hunters on a raid it's impossible to keep track of when my Barbed Arrow is close to falling off if you aren't the lucky one who gets to keep Light Oil up (assuming multiple hunters aren't).

The ability to have a DeCursive/ HealBot-type UI that makes it much easier to heal & remove afflictions. I'm not asking for automation (aka click one button and it does everything/ tells you what to use). Just something that puts the morale bars in one window, puts icons/ changes the bars color when the person has a hostile effect, and lets me select them by mousing over them and clicking the right button on the mouse or keyboard to use the correct ability. I've had people die in Helegrod runs because by the time I could see the debuff, click on their bar, then start the poison cleanse the poison it had already ticked down.

PS
What the blazes is with the random link?!
