data.lotro.com/Lorebook API Access

Hi, all. I've got two related questions.
  1. Is the information here about obtaining an API key (particularly the list of people to contact) still accurate? http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Data....om_Usage_Guide
  2. Can information about quests be extracted through the data.lotro.com API? For instance, if one wanted to generate a list of all repeatable quests, does the data.lotro.com API support that kind of request?

Thanks for your help!

The answer to 1 is "probably."

The answer to 2 is no.

data.lotro.com "still works" -- sort of. It has been broken, and, from what I've been able to tell -- NOT UPDATED/FIXED since the release of RoI.

There are many items NOT present. It is unclear how inter-related the Lorebook and data.lotro.com are.
Many items for the "my.lotro.com" Character Sheets do not exist.

I should add... data.lotro.com has no quest information (never had).

The lorebook is a Media Wiki and has the WIKI API.

Duwis appears to still be around.... http://my.lotro.com/user-32/
ditto, Bracket... http://my.lotro.com/user-31/

but then their pages may simply never have been deleted. :(
No idea if they have survived purges at Turbine.
Bracket's last post was in 2010

I don't see anything later than 2011 for Duwis (He's apparently French.)
His last thread, I think:
http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...t=#post5729376

Gharet may be another source... http://my.lotro.com/user-33/

He seems to be the most visible and therefore current ... (October 12, 2012)

Hmmm... just spotted this syntax in that thread:

Thanks for the reply!

Actually, querying through the Lorebook Wiki API might work just fine for my purposes. I'll have to look into that. The main thing is that I just need to get a list in a format that's consistent enough for me to parse programmatically.

Just in case anybody else is looking for information on this, it seems that Duwis is still working for Turbine and fielding API key requests. Wound up not helping me much since I need to use the MediaWiki API to query the Lorebook, rather than querying data.lotro.com. But, still, I thought folks should know.

I wanted to test a java library (vaadin.com) and decided to implement the data.lotro.com-API to make this more interesting.

So I contacted Duwis earlier this year and also got answers, but he seems to have less time (as nearly every developer ;)). Unfortunatelly there are no complete XML-schemas (xsd) available, so I implemented everything what I got from tests. Also the data behind the API is not complete, so some of the items a char wears can not be detected, the API often provides uncomplete data and (some) kinships migrated from former Codemasters-servers can not be accessed.

I did not know about the Lorebook-API so far, but as far as I can see one is able to get the same results from both APIs at least for items.

Feel free to check out what I did, I think I implemented everything the data.lotro.com-API is able to do:

Hard to say for certain, (I don't have any characters on the servers you are looking at) but I believe that you are doing something similar to what
http://www.lotrodata.com does,

and that which the LOTROCompendium does.

Don't be discouraged, however, for whatever reason(s), Turbine has never made "complete" information available in either the Lorebook or data.lotro.com.

We went for almost a year (or was it longer?) until most of the items from Return of Isengard (RoI) were included in the Lorebook. ... and the last time I looked at my character sheet in my.lotro.com (which pulls it's information from the Lorebook) it was still missing several items.

And I forgot -- Turbine itself still has problems with the former Codemaster's subscribers. Part of the basic problem is that the Codemaster's data base was radically different from the one which Turbine uses.

This was "demonstrated" throughout the Beta of Riders of Rohan.

Turbine has a thing called "Character copy" which allows your actual character to be duplicated on Bullroarer, copied from your live server. However, they can only do EITHER the North American servers or the European (i.e. Codemaster's) servers. So if they align the copy system to match the Codemaster's database, it is incompatible with the Turbine system. (The copy process doing the data conversion.)

It has been an annoying issue ever since Turbine consolidated the players from Europe under their own control some 2+ years ago.

One assumes that Turbine has TWO unique Character Copy programs rather than one modularized one. But who knows -- Turbine is not telling.
