letterbox_bottom xp bar issue

Anyone notice that any graphics you change to the xp bar only sticks as long as there is no "xp" on it? It seems that the graphic is considered a background object and the actual xp "fill" is foreground. Any changes made to the background (the letterbox graphic) get covered by the fill, so they essentially become useless.

Any way around this or is it another UI limitation? I'm trying to make the divisions at 25%, 50%, and 75% much more obvious for a quick "at-a-glance" view.

Correct... the exp is layered on top of your art.
Limitation for now. Won't change until we can use XML or LUA or something to define the exp bar ourselves.
