Sort Pack
Note: The following are required for the plugin to function;
Turbines standard code must be installed. For the plugin to work you also need DeusDictums wonderful DragBar! What does this plugin do?
Video on youtube to help explain this...
Items within Lotro are all assigned a category. SortPack allows you to put these categories into groups, and then either have the backpack sort itself into order, or display a custom backpack.
So, Items are in Categories, Categories are in Groups and these are shown in your backpack.
There are now two options. The plugin can be used to sort the bag, or to open a custom backpack with the items sorted into categories. Either, or both, ideas can be used. It is not a both or nothing choice! How to load the plugin
Either use a plugin manager or /plugins load sortpack. SortPack Button

By default the plugin comes with a resizeable button. To change the size of the button unlock the ui and click and drag inside it. To chose what happens when the button is left clicked just right click it.
Sorting
The first option, from the button or /sort, sorts the default backpack in order. Nice and simple. Takes some time to sort the pack, with a maximum of around 15s. SortBag

A new module allows the default back pack to be supplemented or replaced by a custom backpack. In this backpack the items are shown in groups. Drag/drop etc work as normal. If you notice disappearing items etc. just click the sortpack button to open the pack and the items will re-appear. This is due to a Turbine bug.
The icon at the top left of the pack gives you the option of changing the group label font, overriding the default backpack and opening the sort group panel.
Clicking on a group label collapses that group. Click again to expand it.
If you hover over the right hand side of the pack a control appears that allows the pack to be resized, but if you hold alt it is the label that gets resized instead.
Note: If the default backpack is replaced and you use the menu/key presses to open your bags you may notice that items "disappear". Click the sortpack button to reload the bag. The missing items will suddenly reappear. This is a turbine bug, not mine.
SortPack options.

Allows you to create your own groups or move item categories between groups.
With the sort option window open you can click and drag groups to move them in the sort order in the left pane. The box at the bottom is for creating your own groups. Type the name of your group in the box and click the icon to the right.
A "-" icon shows that a group is empty and can be deleted.
After clicking on a group the right pane shows the item categories in that group. Drag them within the right pane to re-order them in that group, or drag them to the left pane to move them to another group. User Defined Categories.
Some of the Turbine Categories are not logical, for example all craft materials are just "Resources" with no sub-division of ores, hides etc. A new feature of SortPack is the ability to create custom user categories, and to move items into the different categories. To access this feature use either /SortCat or select "Create/Edit custom Categories" from the Button.
This will open a window that shows you all the ingame categories on the left. If you scroll to the bottom you can add your own category. Left clicking on a category will show on the right hand pane which items the user has placed in that category - it does not keep track of which items Turbine has placed in their categories! To add an item to a category just drag it into this right hand pane and voila! it is added. NOTE: The plugin does this by moving the item into the last slot of your backpack. On very rare occaisions you may have to drag the item twice for the option to fire.
Clicking the "-" icon in either pane will remove that item from the category (right hand pane) or delete the category (left hand pane) NOTE: Only user defined categories can be deleted!
These custom categories can then be placed in groups using the Sort Option Window. SortPack Counter.
The counter is a small display that shows how many slots are used/left in the backpack.
To show/hide it either use the SortPack button or the slash command /SortCounter.
UI Locked; The display is mouse invisible when the UI is locked
UI Unlocked; Left clicking and dragging inside the counter will resize the display.
Right Clicking switches between slots used/remaining. If the background turns red it shows the SortPack may have got out of sync and a reload is required (click the sortpack button). In this way it can remind you when to use the button, and when the normal inventory buttons are fine. I have never seen this module give a false positive. To my German and French friends!
Compatible with "Jackdaw Save Patch" for DE and FR support (otherwise it won't save properly)

Learning to use this and it looks like a good idea. I like using my default bags, 1-6 to keep items grouped. Does SortPack allow me to assign items to specific bags? One issue i see is that SortPack starts at Bag 1 and sorts from there through Bag 6, i.e. leaving empty slots in Bag 6 then Bag 5 etc. Now when you fight and loot, all loot by default goes into Bag 1 then Bag 2 etc. I have set up and sorted my bags so that all my gear is stacked in Bag 6 , Bag 5 etc leaving Bag 1, 2, and 3 open for loot. this is so that loot doesn't fill empty slots in my 'gear' bags. I hope you follow me lol.
in Asheron's Call there was a plugin called SortIt! written by Gouru. It allowed you to do several things, one of which was assigning which bag a certain category of item would go into when you looted it. It also allowed you to 'lock' items to certain bags and even certain slots, so that when unequipped, that item would always go to the same place. very handy for having a bag of 'weapons', one of 'armour', one of 'potions', etc.

Thanks and Suggestions
First off, this is one of the best plug-ins. Great work!
I have a couple of improvement possibilities.
1. I'd like the ability to move items in the bag to an empty section temporarily and not have to re-categorize them for a moment. Example: I'm holding some items for someone temporarily or I am getting ready for a big trade with someone. I don't want the items mixed in with my items, which can cause confusion when trying to make the trade simple and complete. I am definitely not a programmer, so I don't know if I have described that adequately.
2. I'd like the ability to return an item to its default Turbine category. If I wanted to dissolve a category that I created, I'd have lot of customized items that would have no home. Although, it is obvious that I didn't like the default category to begin with, it would make things simple if a custom category gets deleted that all the items in that category would return to there defaults.
Again, great plug-in. Thank you many times over.

Thanks so much for this great work!
I want my open SortBag to be much bigger on screen, much higher, with larger icons for the items.
On your YouTube video, the open SortBag takes up a large part of the center of the screen.
For me, I cannot get it that big.
When I hover over the right side of the Bag, I get the blue-bar that allows me to resize, but only in one direction at a time. Only horizontal or vertical, but not in both directions. So I cannot get the total bag size bigger.
Is there some way to make the actual ITEMS in the bag appear larger?

Multi-Boxer who Sorts A Lot
Oh I CANNOT express how much this plugin helps me! Thank You, Thank You! I am a bit of a LOTRO pack-rat, and a Multi-boxer to boot. Since the Auto-Loot feature launched in RoR I have had major loot management problems and having it sort my alts so I can do trades makes the pain way less.
Curious if the LUA allows this feature though. Context: I am a Multi-Boxer and I run 6 Characters (yes that is a Full Fellowship) across 4 computers and while it is a bit tricky it is way fun. So I do understand that I am a unique LOTRO Beast. Before RoR I could manage Loot by, while Questing, making certain my Leader Toon looted 95% of the mobs (this made sure that loot stacked mostly in one place) and then later standing the Group at a Vault Keeper and doing 6 small trades to manage errant loot on my 5 Alts and to stuff things in my Vault. Now each toon gets a loot chance and there is more loot total. I now have Loot coming out of every port in my body, and instead of Loot managed in 10-15 mins, I now easily spend 40-60 minutes on 15-20 trades and moving loot into storage. If I did not have Sort Pack I would be spending even MORE time doing this, so Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for this PlugIn!
Question: Does the LUA allow for items to be put into a trade screen? Like could a plugin feature be created that allows a loot list to be created to automatically be grabbed from the pack and put into a trade? Or maybe a feature that drags items from inventory bags and places them into storage?
If nothing else I again thank you for this plugin and I use it daily and love it!

First off, *great* job!! By far the best bag replacement!
|
Thanks!
Bugs:
Quote:

- The level of your dialog isn't high enough.
|
I have tried this, but then found I couldn't set it lower whilst playing the game - sometimes I want my bag open but it needs to be at the back. Has this changed?
Quote:

- Perhaps not a bug, but I consider it one because it does not behave as the bags do. Detect the escape key and close when it is pressed.

Added to the wish list!

It would be nice if there was a way to quickly classify something to a specific group.
|
I like the idea of changing the current custom group setting to be easier to implement. This is something I will look at as it is certainley quicker than the current system (Create/edit custom categories and using the sort order panel)
The only issue I have with this is that fundamentally I would have to decide which item group the item was being set to. Hmm.... Let me think!
Currently as the system works items go into categories and categories are in groups. Turbine categories are pre-defined, but players can change the category of an item through the window, or create their own categories. Then, the player decides how these categories are grouped for display.
With the system you suggest would the item get placed into the first category in that group, or get placed in a custom category just for that group?
The second option seems the most reasonable, but would cause problems if the player then wanted to change the groups around. It would work well assuming that once it was done it was fixed.
Cogitating...
Will not be working on ANYTHING for some time as work has got busy, and my heart it just not in it. When the bug hits me I will start again!

Some Bugs and Suggestions
First off, *great* job!! By far the best bag replacement!
Bugs:
- The level of your dialog isn't high enough. If I position the dialog over my quest tracker and then close it, then click on my quest tracker, then open the dialog, the quest tracker is on top of it. It's been a while since I wrote Emo, but I'm pretty sure you can adjust this. Since this is a bag replacement, I would set the level as high as you can so it initially will show up on top of the other UIs.
- Perhaps not a bug, but I consider it one because it does not behave as the bags do. Detect the escape key and close when it is pressed. I actually use this as a full on replacement for my bags, so having to hit "b" again is annoying when I'm used to clearing my screen of dialogs by pressing Escape.
Well heck, I just found the "Override Default Bags" in the special little options menu. This solves my problem of the escape key, altho I would still consider it to be something you should do by default.
Suggestions:
- The two biggest things I need to manage in my inventor are task items and crafting items.
It would be nice if there was a way to quickly classify something to a specific group. For instance, maybe I add a group called "Tasks" which shows up whether or not it is empty in the dialog. If a new task trophy drops that has not been previously stored in that group, I can drag it onto a slot in that group or onto the group name and it will then be classified there as a first-stop filter. This would allow me to keep my "task items" always filtered off so I never see them.
The second usage of this concept is for crafting. I have 2 alts and am always collecting stuff for my other alts. It would be fantastic if I could easily categorize drops into groups for specific crafting. So I could make a group for Yeoman, Scholar, and Cook... or even by toon name if I want. Then it's just a matter of when I mine some ore or chop some wood that goes into the Yeoman group (well, I would probably just call this Frello instead) automatically. This would greatly enhance giving stuff out to kinmates and storing in the right bank slot, etc.
Great tool tho!! I hope you're still actively developing it!!
Frell

Quandary....
Turbine have introduced some new functions with Rohan that could speed up Sortbag (not pack!) and make the sorting more reliable. BUT it would me a significant redesign of the code. Given that it currently works, and works just fine, I am loath to begin this path.
Just venting...

Version 161
Version 161 - Bugfix
Turbine have introduced some new item categories in the expansion, but due to pressure of time have not updated the enumeration. I have made the best guess I can at these, strictly only two are guesses (Woodworker and Jeweller scrolls), so hopefully less errors for you guys.

Do you have any plans of being able to filter through vault/shared inventory? Any planned features we can look forward to?
|
I currently have no plan to interface with the vault/alts as AltInventory does that well according to what I have heard. The only new features I am about to start work on are fixes for the broken categories brought in with Rohan and tinkering with the idea of a change to bag layout that was requested a LONG time ago.

Ralphtro, sciurpadrun - Turbine have yet again added lots of items to the game without adding them to the enumeration. Annoys me deeply. However, I know they are overworked there right now - so it's absolutely fine!
I am in the process of doing some work on Bevy and then I will have a look here for you.

Thanks, I didn't realize that is what the stack command did. You rock!

Thank you for creating the plugin. It's been very helpful.
Do you have any plans of being able to filter through vault/shared inventory? Any planned features we ca look forward to?
If you're looking for suggestions, I'd like to offer this one. The ability to sort through the bag and see if any items can be stacked with what's in your vault to make quick room?
Thank you again!
