Description
Installation/Use Notes:
  • The first time you select the UI skin the graphics will not load correctly. You need to select the UI skin, then log out of that character and log back in to reset them.
  • The "footprint" of many of the graphics (unit frames and the minimap in particular) are vastly different than the default UI. Don't be alarmed if your layout has to be changed to accommodate the differences.
  • In order for the skin to display properly, you'll need to disable 3D Object Portraits. The option is in the Advanced Graphics menu towards the bottom.
Version Note:

Unless someone finds some glaring errors that I missed, this version should be ready for release. I've been using it for a while, and it should be solid.

===

This is a complete rebuild of my old Black Fade skin. The old one hadn't aged well, and starting from scratch presented a good opportunity to fix some mistakes inherent in both the old version and the default UI. Beyond the obvious visual differences, there are some key usability changes that have been made:

Note: As this is a beta, some of this stuff may still need adjusting. Keep that in mind. Anything noted with a - is something that either hasn't been tested or I'm concerned about.

Unit Frames:
  • The level button replaces the character portrait as the context menu clickable area.
  • The mob "class" (Normal, Elite, etc.) is displayed as a small color-coded abbreviation. Unfortunately, there is no graphic for Nemesis or Arch-Nemesis-class mobs; they share a frame with Normal targets. This is replaced by the class icon when a player is targeted.
  • The "footprint" is equal to the frame size plus a bit of extra for the buff/debuff bars, so the frames won't "cover up" buttons underneath them and can be positioned at the bottom of the screen.
  • The mount name is now the dismount button on the mount frames.
- Long player names may be truncated on the player frame.
- Several mob types (EM, Nemesis, Arch-nemesis) have not been tested. They should work, though.
- Unsure about buff/debuff alignment or stacking/wrapping on escort and pet frames.

Minimap:
  • The minimap has been reworked from previous versions to keep various icon alignments correct.
  • The button to access the full-size map is invisible in the center of the minimap.
  • The Hope/Dread gem on the mini-map has a color-coded numerical display. It ranges from 0 (neutral) to 1-5 Hope and 1-5 Dread. The numbers do not match the current level of Hope/Dread, but they're much less vague than the default "Guess how bright the gem is glowing!" icon.
  • As with the unit frames, the map "footprint" is exactly equal to the size of the graphic.
- The housing tutorial highlight is probably out of alignment, and it'll stay that way. I'm not going to buy a house just to test it.

Gambit/Attunement Meters:
  • Gambit bar reskinned
  • New icons for both the Gambit bar and the Gambit skills menu.
  • Attunement bar de-gunked.
  • Size of both panels' "footprint" has been adjusted to match the frame.
New for this version:

I have finished the Custom skin, which removes all the garbage from the mainbar. No store buttons, no menu buttons, no nothing. Just your XP bar and class meter (if applicable). The downside is you'll probably have to edit the SkinDefinition.XML to get it to work with your monitor (instructions are included). The Standard version is still available for those who don't want to dink with .XML editing.

Custom Mainbar:
  • Instructions for adjusting for your screen resolution are located in ui/skins/Black Fade RC3/Custom.
  • All the clutter removed from the mainbar.
  • Quickslot dock positions are also adjusted, so you can have your bars docked where they belong.
Standard Mainbar:
  • Endcap buttons (the Start Menu and the LotRO Store) are much smaller and less obtrusive.
  • The customizable side buttons are invisible, but still usable.
  • Most of the clutter ("claw" endcaps, fancy overlays) has been removed from the mainbar. The color of the XP bar has been muted somewhat.
- Not all the customizable side buttons are skinnable. Either that or I'm blind and couldn't find them. If you have one of those selected, it'll still be visible on the side buttons.

Known Issues:

- The "Dread Eye" is out of alignment with the rest of the map
- On the Standard version's character panel, most of the icons for the various panels (Skills, Bio, etc.) are invisible.

As before, any comments, concerns, or corrections are more than welcome. If you'd like to post feedback but don't have (and don't want) an account here, there is a thread on the official forums:

question regarding main quickslot bar

I've followed the directions you've included to adjust the main and other quickbar docking spots, but they don't seem to be lining up correctly for me. I'm playing in 1920 x 1080 resolution, full screen windowed mode. I'm not exactly sure what i'm doing wrong.

RC3 is missing an image from the General folder (selection_highlight).
Got it. Will give it a bit more time and see if anything else kicks up before I upload a new version.

RC3 is missing an image from the General folder (selection_highlight). It is present in RC2, so I grabbed it from there.

@Kinkaz

Sorry it took me forever to reply. I haven't had much time to work on UI stuff. No, I don't have any plans to enable the PvP rank icon. If you have a basic understanding of computer languages you can probably edit the SkinDefinition yourself if you'd like, though.

1. Please make a solid background version, the current transparent one (even the darker option) makes it hard for me to see all the information in a panel.
I'm considering reworking all the panels once the new update goes live. I'm going to have to gut the character frame anyways, so might as well get them all at once. The new version will probably be a bit darker. Maybe 70% opaque compared to the 60% I'm using now.

If you want a sorta ugly workaround in the meantime, open the SkinDefinition.xml in a text editor, and search for the phrase "Panel Base Background". Under that header, the first two entries are:

Code:
<Mapping ArtAssetID="base_box_center_silver" FileName="Panels\panel_c.tga"></Mapping>
<Mapping ArtAssetID="base_box_center_silver_light" FileName="Panels\panel_c.tga"></Mapping>
Just put <!-- before the first one and --> after the second one and resave the file. It'll look like this if done correctly:

Code:
<!-- <Mapping ArtAssetID="base_box_center_silver" FileName="Panels\panel_c.tga"></Mapping>
<Mapping ArtAssetID="base_box_center_silver_light" FileName="Panels\panel_c.tga"></Mapping> -->
That'll revert the center of the panels to the default ~90% opaque ones. The edges will still be see-through, though.

Hello Halvr,

Firstly, just wanted to let you know I really like your theme.

I like how clean, and streamlined it. I also like the fervor/focus indicator.

I have a couple of suggestions:

1. Please make a solid background version, the current transparent one (even the darker option) makes it hard for me to see all the information in a pane.

2. Please implement a larger auction panel, dressing room, selling panel, and quest list.

Great work!

Regards,

Cyl
