Description
Waypoint 1.9
by Lunarwater

about:

Waypoint is a simple addon to assist in targeting your character in the right direction instead of having to look at the map a ton. It is more of a proof of concept until we get better lua support for location tracking, but is still in a usable state.

KNOWN ISSUES:
  • I'll be the first to warn you that it uses /loc, and therefore you will incur some chattab spam. I would recommend you create a new chat tab vs using general chat so you don't have to see the output of /loc. If this is a problem for you please do not use at this time. I am hoping one day Turbine will release an API method for getting location & direction info and then this will go away.
  • /loc data is different Inside dungeons. Initial
  • My lotro characters is only level 16, so I have not tried this in other regions. If you encounter problems in another region you can assist me by recording /loc values, along with ;loc for that same location and posting below.
  • Attempting to navigate coordinates between regions will not work as expected. They use different coordinate systems, and will result in the arrow pointing in wrong direction. Try to stick to navigating coordinates within the same zone for now.

CHANGELOG:
Version 1.9 :
  • Fixing number parsing for 64bit DE client

Version 1.8 :
  • Fixing chatlog location parsing (again >.<)

Version 1.7 :
  • Fixing chatlog location parsing

Version 1.6 :
  • Fixing chatlog location parsing

Version 1.5 :
  • Bug fix submitted regarding improper listing of east and west for french and german versions of the game. (thanks Venogorn!)

Version 1.4:
  • Fixed waypoint to properly determine location with recent changes to game
  • While I'm not sure if it will help, I make the Waypoint work indoors.

Version 1.3 :
  • Changed chat channel parser for changes in RoI Update 6
  • Fixed but when user was facing due north, coordinates would not get parsed. (thanks Garan)
  • Remove extranious output to chat channel by plugin
  • Added plugin manager icon and description

Version 1.2 :
  • changes necessary for it to work in German and French LoTRO client
  • changes necessary for it to work better with LoTRO Compendium
  • small tweak to LPC plugin configuration file that was incorrect

Version 1.1 :
  • Made it so you can click on things that are behind the transparent portions of waypoint.
  • Calculate # of meters vs generic units for distance
  • Save position of waypoint so it remembers where you last placed it on screen.
  • Adding LPC file

Version 1.0 : initial release

INSTALL:
  1. Delete any older Waypoint install from your Plugins folder
    (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\Lunarwater\My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\Plugins\Waypoint)
  2. Copy the entire Waypoint folder into your LOTRO plugins folder
    (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\Lunarwater\My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\Plugins\Waypoint)
  3. Start LOTRO. Once in game type: /plugins load Waypoint

USAGE:

/way help : shows Waypoint help
/way show : shows Waypoint
/way hide : hides Waypoint
/way target <coordinate> : target a coordinate for waypoint
(i.e. /way target 21.4S 45W)

Once a target is set, an arrow will appear on your screen. You will need to click the middle of arrow for it to know where u are at and what direction you are facing. The arrow will then point in a direction like a compass. Simply rotate your character and move in that direction. Periodically you can click arrow again to check your distance from target & check that you are still headed in correct direction.

You can also make a shortcut to periodically do a /loc if you wish to hit
a key to update the waypoint. (i.e. /shortcut <slot #> /loc )

I'm glad to finally release Waypoint. It has been a side project of mine since before RoI. It just didn't get a lot of attention. It started with me writing an application to sit outside Lotro to scan memory for the location data, and provide this to the game to load in. Then I scrapped that after noticing you could pass the ;loc alias over the command arguments. Doing this however didn't exactly give you the player heading. You could still figure it out by collecting a minimum of two points and formulate the angle between the two points and axis, but this is when I heard that RoI would have chat parsing. One of the reasons is after 10+ years of not much use, my math skills were very very dusty. After a lot of scratch paper, and reschooling myself on Trig here is the first release.

Special thanks to Garan & Digital Utopia. We've exchanged messages and each made addons related to maps & coordinates. I'll buy you Cheetoes & Mtn dew if you ever wind up in my neck of the woods.

Neat addon.

One thing to remember is that the world coordinate system is different in Region 1 (Eriador) and Region 2 (Moria and Rhovanion). This can cause some confusion when looking for locations. You'll also note that some areas have locations that make no sense like coordinates on the Zirak Zigal map would place it somewhere in the far northern Mirkwood instead of atop Moria where it belongs. If you're in region 1 and enter coordinates for a location in region 2, the arrow may point the wrong way. You just have to be sure you're in the right part of the world before trying to enter and follow coordinates.

Good point. Along those notes, I am somewhat stuck in region one since I am so low level. If anyone is in region two and can give it a try that is appreciated. Once I'm that high I'll definetly test more.

Nice plugin! A suggestion for a future release would be to work with the makers of Compendium and Moor Map to have the plugins work together. As it stands, with Compendium you can click on a coordinate and it will show in Moor Map... but would be very cool to also appear on the screen using Waypoint! Yay! I can dream, right?

I completely agree. I tried to make waypoints usage very simple, and would encourage it to be integrated.

For example.. I'm a big pvp'r in other games, I plan to do that in Lotro. What would be cool is an addon that both reports, and tracks players encounters with enemy players. If a battle is going on, how much easier is it to click a button, vs have to type out lengthy description details so other players can come help defend / attack. clicking an alias would report location of enemy. Meanwhile other users with the plugin would recieve a notification, and the option to open up a waypoint to the battle.

Can we have a voice telling directions ?

"Turn .. left .. in .. 100 .. meters .. then turn .. left"
"Turn .. left .. now"

Just kidding, seems interesting

Hmmm... I hear the makers of Compendium and Moor Map are a real pain to work with (I'm hoping Matzig realizes the irony here).

As to region 2, I will try to get you a conversion formula from /loc to ;loc coordinates when I can (my conversion formula was only good in region 1 as well - I had put it on a back burner until RoI released and then got sidetracked by lots of nifty chat stuff).

The article I used for region one was noted here http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Mecha...dinate_Systems

He mentioned going to 0, 0 in player coordinates and getting the developer ones. If you are able to do that in region 2 that would be great. Otherwise, a couple of developer / player coordinates, and I can probably extrapolate an approximate.

It turns out that the formula works just fine, they just moved the origin in region 2 so it seems Waypoint will work just fine in Rhovanion.

I did notice one issue, your regex pattern won't match when the character is facing due north because there is no " h0.0" value (the heading is blank when facing north) to match which causes the captures to be nil and no waypoint is found. I had to account for that in MoorMap by testing the presence of the "h" component before trying to match.

Just tried waypoint. Nice mod.

I use a toggle macro for /loc at 25ms repeat off of my keyboard and the waypoint updates nicely as I ride. This makes deeds so easy todo for my alts.

Some gaming keyboards have features like this built in where they have programmable keystrokes.
