Description
! Updated for Helm's Deep !

About

LIP (Legendary Item Planner) is a plugin for LotRO that assists the player in planning legendary items, through a familiar user interface.

It is similar to the 'Legendary Item Point Spender' web tool at http://lotrotools.mmorsel.com/lispender which was both the inspiration for this plugin and the source of some of its data.

Ever wanted to know where your scrolls of empowerment are best used ? How to optimally spread your points ? Forgot which legacies are minor and major ? Wondering just exactly what benefits you would get from upgrading that second age weapon to a first age ? This plugin is for you!

Features
  • 10 'virtual' legendary items configurable for each class, stored across characters.
  • Overview of all legacies (and their type: minor, major) available to a given class and legendary item
  • Full freedom, LIP will adjust the values and cost of legacies for any level, age, tier or rank you set.
  • Import of legendary items from the chat to LIP and export from LIP to the chat
  • Localization in Russian and German (not up to date), partial French translation

Installation

Copy the "Equendil" folder from the zip file to your "My Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins" folder (if you never installed a plugin before, you might have to create that "Plugins" folder).

If you are updating an older version of LIP, erasing files is fine. If you are using another plugin of the author (Bootstrap & Baruk, currently), erasing files *should* be safe. In doubt, always install older (by last update) plugins first and make sure you have the latest versions.

Execute "/plugins unload" if you have plugins currently running

Execute "/plugins refresh"

Alternatively you can use lunarwtr's installer: for PC or for Mac/Linux

Usage

"/plugins load lip" will launch (and display if that option is not disabled) LIP. Another option is to use a plugin manager (such as the author's: Bootstrap or Turbine's one)

"/lip" or "/lip toggle" will make the plugin visible or invisible depending if it was visible
"/lip show" will always make LIP's window visible
"/lip hide" will always hide LIP's window

The graphical interface of LIP is rather straight forward (or so I believe). A few points worth mentioning:
  • Right clicking on legacy tier icons will bring up a selection menu, left clicking will cycle through tiers
  • The list of legacies for selection displays the total cost of each legacy as if of maximum rank and tier 6. This gives a rough idea of the relative costs of the legacies.
  • The list of selected legacies for configuration displays the total cost of each legacy up to the current rank and cost of the next rank in parenthesis.
  • Open the legacy selection list and deselect legacies to 'remove' them from an item
  • The legacy summary on the right side lists all modifiers and costs of a legacy at the current tier for all ranks. The current rank is highlighted.
  • Moving the mouse pointer over the level of a LI will display a chart of total experience and experience from the current level for key levels.
  • "Save" will save the current item only, "Save All" will save all modifications made to every item present in the interface.
  • The "Restore" button will restore *all* legendary items back to their last saved configuration, not just the currently displayed one.
  • If 'Show when started' is unchecked, the plugin will not display when loaded, you will have to execute "/lip" to bring up its window (as per request).
  • The "Sauron's Eye" icon opens the item importer. The last LIs spotted in the chat will be displayed there for importing
  • The little "chat bubble" icon in the header of a LI opens a small window to output a link to a chat channel.

Known Issues & limitations
  • Some values here and there have been extrapolated and may be sligthly off (very little is extrapolated as of version 1.7). Where doing so might have been misleading, the interface displays "?" instead of a value.
  • A few legacies have costs set to 0 for all ranks at tier 1.
  • "Ranged Skill Block Chance Modifier" and "Ranged Skill Evade Chance Modifier" (hunters) show values that may be off by one rank at tier 6 (likely a bug on Turbine's side)
  • "Focus Bow Threat Down" and "Induction Bow Threat Down" may show the wrong costs on lvl 70ish third age items (bug on Turbine's side not reflected in LIP, *should* be fixed in Update 9)
  • On high brightness settings, the background of the plugin window displays oddly when the window is made taller (just like Turbine's own LI panel).
  • Import & export of LIs from / to the chat have several limitations, in particular, bridles are not supported (as of 2.0), level/age/ranks may be set to a default value on import, and incoming healing ratings may display the wrong values or not display at all when LIP LIs are linked to the chat

Reporting issues, contributing.

Undoubtedly bugs have crept in and mistakes have been made while gathering, extrapolating and entering data for all possible combinations of legacies, level, age, crystal upgrades, tier and ranks. Should you spot incorrect values, please report them (preferably along with correct values ...) so the data can be fixed.

The author can be contacted:
  • On this thread
  • In private messages through this site
  • By contacting the author on the Snowbourn server. Send a mail to "Equanor" (main character), or send a message directly if logged on.
When reporting erroneous values, do not forget to include the level to use, age, number of crystals of legendary items as well as the rank and tier of legacies where relevant.

Third parties have been contributing translations of the plugin, but those might not be up to date. If you'd like to help, the LIP/Locale/*.lua list all strings that require translations (see ru.lua for an example). Contact the author for any question regarding the process (and to make sure nobody is already working on it).

Contributions

Russian localization by PulseDiver - Uuhty (The Ring Union kinship, Mirkwood, RU) - Уухты (содружество "Союз Кольца", Мирквуд) - email: info[at]theringunion.ru

German localization by Amethadan Celebhathol (Silberklinge) - Heerführern Arnors (www.arnor.tk) - Maiar server.

Partial French localization by "kiki".

I'd like to give my thanks to all the people who contributed some of their time and data to this plugin, people who reported mistakes, sent me data through PM, people I've contacted in game randomly, and were kind enough to give me a minute of their time, thanks everyone! You rock. I'm not going to name everyone who helped at one point or another, but special thanks to Thormosi, Janthalion and Loge on the Snowbourn server who gave much of their time testing, feeding me items and data, as well as Amtor who provided me much needed data on legacies for which I had very little, ChromiteSwiftPaw for the RoR expansion, Bunny and Tangaar for Helm's Deep.

wow, what a lifesaver

I entered my minstrel and hunter LIs. everything works fine. i LOVE how it saves all the LIs across the account... especially when i'm on my hunter, i ID a minstrel LI, and can't remember what legacies I need, heh.

I didn't find any bugs, but I have 2 feature requests:

(1) You already mentioned this, but I'd like to be able to name my LIs.

(2) When changing the legacy tier, I click on the icon and the numbers change automatically on the left side of the screen (that's good) however... the tier and costs dont update automatically on the right side of the screen when I click to change the tier. The right side of the screen doesn't update until my mouse leaves the tier icon area. I'm not sure if I explained myself very well... OnClick() of the legacy tier icon, I'd like to see both the left and right sides of the window update (instead of just the left side) I'll provide a screenshot if it'll help clarify

anyways, this is a VERY useful plugin. definitely gonna suggest it to my kinmates... esp the ones with more than one lvl 65

Thanks for the good words, yeah I know what you mean, the summary of a legacy on the right side currently only updates when the mouse pointer is first brought over a legacy. I'll get that improved.

I made a mistake in the description of the plugin, legendary items are saved accross characters on a same server, not account wide, although that should make no difference to most people. I might make it actually account wide if that's preferred.

Loading

Any chance of making it not popup on loading plugins. It's minor, but annoying to have interactive windows popping up.

Otherwise, it's looking good.

.Regards

I'll consider it although other people might find it confusing or annoying to have nothing show up after loading the plugin.

I was informed that I incorrectly wrote "/plugin load lip" in the 'Usage' section above (corrected now) the correct command is:

/plugins load lip

awesome!

I too would like to see an option to not show on load as well.
the majority of plugin users use a manager to load them all at once, this can get slow and messy.

You could make it show by default to avoid confusion, but please allow for the option to not show afterwards.

great work!

Thanks!

data corrections

*waves*

Sent a few corrections on the ministrel discrepancies I found tonight while using the planner. Hoping everyone else will do the same, so the data can be less extrapolated and more actual figures.

I think once we all get the data in, this is gonna be a beautiful plugin. Since I store a lot of LI's on mules, it'll be nice to use it across characters to check on things.

Thanks a ton for the work!

See ya in Middle-earth,

-R

Ironically I'm working on a plugin manager that should address that very sort of issues but of course that other plugin might not be to everyone's tastes. I will definitively add such an option in the first update to LIP.

v1.1 uploaded. Items can now be renamed, added the missing guardian legacy "Overpower Power Cost" (d'oh!). As per requests, there's now an option to not show the window immediately when started. LIP will also remember its position on the display, and the plugin with start on the current character's class when loaded.

Thumbs up Excellent App

This is great. It does everything I need right now, and was fairly intuitive.

Feature Suggestion
Add the information of how much IXP is required for the selected LI level. This could be either an overlay on the level progress bar (like in-game), or displayed in the RHS panel on hover over this bar.

Reason: to help work out which IXP runes to apply without wasting any. You may be able to do this in another way, but I personally think it would be more helpful than adding relic functionality.

Design Suggestion
- change "Next" and "Spent"* to column headings to declutter
- remove the small Legacy Point icons to declutter

I realise that you have modeled this closely on the in game LI panels, but they have a more clear space vertically between legacies, and less information per row. Less is more.

* if you prefer to keep the "Spent", you may want to lower them a pixel because I think they are slightly higher than the "Next" and "Rank" text.

Astute observations there, and a very good suggestion that I'll implement!

I acknowledge I tried to cram too many things into too small a space, I was working under a set of somewhat conflicting (self imposed) constrains:
- remaining as close as possible to Turbine's design for the LI panel, as you mentioned, while adding further information.
- reusing in game resources as much as possible, to keep the footprint of the plugin small (plus at the end of the day I'm much more of a software developer than a graphic designer). This, however, meant making LIP the exact dimension it is currently.
- displaying up to seven legacies without scrolling. When I started working on the plugin, seven legacies was the gold standard for LIs, and scrolling to see all your legacies was one thing I really disliked about Turbine's LI panel.
This led, rightly or wrongly so, to LIP's UI for which I could afford to waste no pixel. Anyway, I now have more leeway, LIs with seven legacies are soon going to be a thing of the past, and Turbine released a new set of background elements that allow resizing the standard LI panel. In other words, I can and will make the next iteration of this plugin less 'compact' without compromising on my intents. I may or may not rethink the repetition of the 'next' and 'spent' labels for each legacy in the process

Nice catch on the positioning by the way, actually a case of the engine trying to display "Spent:" on two lines, breaking the vertical centering.

Thanks for your feedback!

Just downloaded the updated version, looks like great tweaks you made there... and so soon already!

I was going to suggest adding IXP data, but I see someone beat me to it. Also figured that adding Relics might be a great improvement, but it seems that you're planning that also

Another suggestion I have though is that it would be very convenient to be able to change the order in which the legacies show in LIP. Currently the order is alphabetical, I believe, but the order in the client LI window is different and I find myself constantly double-checking if I'm upgrading the right legacy. Would be great if the order of the legacies (top to bottom) could be adjusted so they are the same as in the client LI window.

Also just downloaded the latest version of your plugin manager by the way, which looks like a great improvement over the one I've always used up to now. Can't wait to get in-game and try it out!

Thanks a lot for your fabulous work

Please note that the next version of LIP will come after Rise of Isengard, reflecting changes to legacies of various classes, this might take a couple weeks after the expansion is out though.
